the first time i saw cody creek, it reminded me of all my favorite places to eat over the years… and christmas was beautiful there… I loved the waterfall sound… and i didn’t mind being told to go the end of the hall… come on people don’t take yourself so seriously… The food, I always get prime rib and ribs. sooo good… good service… all the staff friendly, knowledgeable. that is our special place to go. always a good time. never mind how nice the grounds are… If you don’t like it…;go to the dr… there’s something wrong.

Passed Glory — Would not recomment Apparently originally planned as a venue such as wedding and formal events with great dining, has fallen in years past. Went for a Sunday late lunch, early dinner and on the surface, looked great. Walked in and promptly seated which was good. I ordered pepperjack chichen which was mediocre at best. She ordred a ½ slab of ribs which came out stone cold although the sweet potatoe fries and everything else were perfect. Sent back to kitchen, thrown in the microwave and when it came back, ribs were fine but the perfect sweet potatoe fries were now mush Nice art throughout. Gardens are nice but getting dated. Would stilll recommend as a destination but don’t put it at the top

My husband and I have heard for years how great this place is, so when we had company fly in from Texas, there was no thought in our minds this is where we had to go for dinner. The scenery is beautiful. I love the one lane bridge that leads into the area. The building is gorgeous. We got there around 5:30 on a Friday night and it was already packed. Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait for a table. Unfortunately, we had to sit in the bar area instead of an actual dining room. You have to seat yourself which I thought was kind of a turn off. Our server approached us right away and took our drink orders. She was a doll. The eating area in the bar section is kind of a tight squeeze. It filled up pretty quickly. Our food was also out fairly quick. My husband and our house guest both ordered a steak, one ribeye and one NY strip. The ribeye was cooked to perfection(medium rare). The strip was sadly under cooked(was supposed to be well done but was medium halfway through), so the server had them throw it back on the grill. It came back done and was devoured. My son ordered a corndog and fries, and I had the sautéed chicken. It was a lot of food! It already comes on a bed of rice pilaf and piled high with zucchini, squash, onions, and peppers. Then you get to add on 2 sides and your choice of bread. I ordered mac n cheese and cooked cinnamon apples. The chicken and veggies were really good. The rice was kinda mushy and you can tell the mac n cheese isn’t homemade. The cinnamon apples were good. All-in-all, it was a decent meal. We may return in the future, and I’ll probably get a steak next time.

Ive been here 3 times, even for a work function & service is always slow & food mediocre, frozen or not fresh tasting. The grounds & décor are the best thing they have going but I guess most of the locals give it good reviews because there aren’t many restaurants to choose from.

I love coming to eat here when I visit from Nor Cal. My dad’s cousins last name«Barnard» introduced me to the place back in the mid 2000. I know they are regulars and I look forward to the ride over and across the bridge to get to this place in the boonies. And there’s nothing wrong with that. The hush puppies are shaped different from the way I’ve had them but they sure taste good. The pies and cakes you offer for dessert are to die for and hard to choose so last time we got a few and took them back to the house. We always stop by the gift shop before we leave to have some ice cream and I look at the scarves. Can’t wait to visit soon and back to the lovely place at The Depot.

The Depot is easily on of the most breath taking places I have been to. The buildings, covered bridge, and scenery is just outstanding, and we haven’t even walked in the door. Inside is very rustic, lots of wood, stone, and old jail bars around the bar. There is a beautiful waterfall that greats you as you walk in the door as well. We have been before, and was excited about coming back. When we walked in the door the water fall made it hard to hear the greater. Thought it was a little odd they didn’t seat us, but instead told us to go to the end. Must say it wasn’t the most polite tone. We walk past the bar, an English phone booth, tons of art for what seems like forever. We finally got to the end to another hostess and she told us it would be a few minutes. This is at 7:45pm! A couple of minutes past and we were seated. The depot is indeed placed on some amazing grounds. So the seats inside amaze me. The tables and chairs really don’t match the location well at all. They are almost like banquet tables and chairs. The menu is very vast in selections. I had the ribs last time and didn’t really like them, so I ordered the ribeye as my wife had it last time. One thing that did disappoint us was how the steaks all came in one size 12oz. My wife wanted a steak but wanted a 8 – 10 oz steak. She instead order the grilled tuna. Our salads came out quickly, but much like the furniture, the salads came in a small plastic salad bowl, and salad dressing came in a plastic cup with a lid. The salad was very good, the vegetables were about as fresh as you could want. The tomatoes were beyond perfect, and then there is the ranch, oh so good. Our dinner came out, it was timed perfectly as we had just finished our salads. And again the dish were these oblong plastic plates, and there was no real presentation or art to the plate. I had a loaded bake potato which was $ 1.50 more to load it. The cheese and bacon(lots of it no less) both were in little plastic cups with lids. The butter was a packet on the plate as was the sour cream. My steak was the star of dinner. Perfectly cooked, and very tasty. My wife grilled tuna was also amazing, will order next time. The biggest of all gripes was the silverware, the knife was as dull as a cheese spreading knife. So I wasn’t cutting my meat but rather ripping it. Shame for such wonderful facilities, and food to be paired with such inept dinnerware and furnishings. No it won’t make the food better, but it would make the experience match that as the rest of the surrounding grounds and facilities.

The food here is good, but is not priced well. We had the wings and oysters, and everything was very heavily fried, which was tasty but very greasy. The wings were pretty much like fast-food fried chicken, and had sauce only on the side, which I found disappointing. They also have a large bar but it is not a full bar, just beer and wine, which was deceiving!

Good food, wide variety — something for everyone. Not fancy, but goods food, good sized portions and a reasonable price.(three people — app, tea and entrée $ 43.50) Expect a 45 minute + wait at peak times. Get there before 6 on weekends. They do take reservations. I have not had a bad meal there. The prime rib is good and the sweet potato casserole is outstanding.

You cannot beat how beautiful this location is: a little creek, woodsy landscaping, a big porch, rustic architecture. I noticed that they have a pavilion for weddings — so a great location for events on the property. The menu, however, is very ordinary. Hamburgers, steaks, ribs, sandwiches, fried seafood. Prices are very reasonable for families. But a more adventuresome and skilled chef could make this place really memorable — like the Angus Barn or the Grove Park Inn. Too bad. That being said, my partner’s hamburger was tasty. And the wine selection(being near all the local wineries) was good. After dinner, we strolled over to the General Store for an ice cream cone. I would recommend for large parties of people with conservative palettes.

We had heard such wonderful things about this place so we drove over an hour to go. The place is beautiful! The staff was friendly, the seafood was ok but the steaks were terrible! The cuts were good but neither were cooked like we ordered them and there was so much seasoning on them it seemed like they were covering something up. The side salads we ordered smelled like they came out of a dumpster and the appitizer, jalapeño poppers, looked like the ones you get from your grocery store freezer.

The restaurant entrance is pretty much hidden and there is also a wedding venue on site so don’t be confused when pulling in. The restaurant is the long building to your right at you drive through. If you enter through the main doors you will be told to walk down a long hallway to the next hostess station. The hostess was not friendly at all. When we walked up smiling and said that there were two of us she said they were full and we would have to wait. We said sure and asked how long the wait would be and she said as long as it takes for someone to get up and leave. She looked like the pissed off daughter of a friend of the business owner who did not want to be there but didn’t have any other job to go to. When we were seated about 15 min later the vibe changed with an awesome waitress and quick friendly service. The ribs were good and so were the fried green tomatoes. We got free ice cream cones after the meal was over and took some time looking around the country store while we were there. Overall a rough start but a positive finish.

We’ve been eating here for over 3 years now. Where we live, it’s a 60 mile drive one way – and worth it. Best baby-back ribs I have EVER eaten; as an airline pilot, I can assure you I’ve had them at all corners of the U.S., and nothing compares. The worst meal we’ve had here was very good; usually we rate them excellent. And, we love the new/rustic look of the place, the period pictures of the moonshiners, lawmen, and pictures of the 1939 period of automobiles makes the short Sunday wait to be seated very worthwhile. Service is unsurpassed; obviously the people really like their jobs. We’re going again next Sunday; it’s already decided!

Ask for Lee Ann, she is a SUPER waitress. Attentive without hovering. My husband and I both have some dietary restrictions but she she got our order 100% right which does not always happen, even in 5+ star establishments. I had the ½ lb peel and eat shrimp appetizer for dinner and it was easily more than a ½ lb. I had it for dinner, lunch the next day and finished it with a salad the next night. Large shrimp, perfectly cooked and free of seasoning. Lee Ann brought an extra tablespoon of raw horseradish to add some bite to the cocktail sauce as requested when I ordered. I cannot tell you how many places do not remember to do this one little thing. She left off all the bread as requested when my husband ordered his meal. She gave a spot on review of the amazing house dressing(a creamy sweet Italian) which we ordered on the side and there was a lot of it. I took it home and used it to dress up my husbands left over baked potato for our son the next day. He declared it ‘the best ever’. My husband ordered chicken tenderloins and they were thoroughly cooked but still very moist and tender. His sides were just right, his potato was large, perfectly cooked and had all the items on the side as requested while the green beans were country style and very tasty. We brought home a slice of pumpkin caramel cheesecake to enjoy later. We’ve each had a bite of it every night since visiting The Depot and are still enjoying it several days later! Velvety smooth, rich without being overly dense and the crust has a delightful blend of spices in the graham crackers which enhance without overpowering the pumpkin and caramel of the cheesecake. Unsure of the dress code we had come slightly dressy, but had many patrons around us in casual clothing and jeans while another couple was quite dressed up. It all worked, no one stood out with their apparel choices and it is a place I’d be just as comfortable in an evening gown as a pair of capris. The mini village this restaurant is set in cannot be described other than adorably charming. Rustic covered bridge after a winding driveway and then the restaurant itself appears to the right, beyond that on the left a lovely banquet hall and three rental cottages(only 200 for two night!) are up and behind a knoll behind The Depot before exiting the grounds on another winding drive. We came twice in one week from Mooresville… they are closed on Monday as we discovered the first evening. But it was so adorable and charming we had to return the next night and try it. Prices are exceptionally low, we would have paid quite a bit more in any Charlotte or Mooresville restaurant. Service was great! Next time I am getting the filet and my husband is going to try the ribs. They looked AMAZING! Give this a try, it is a jewel in Surry County! This is a place worth the drive in every possible way!

The scenery you experience when entering the gate is amazing! I was traveling from Charlotte to West Virginia and took a detour to try this restaurant out and I was not disappointed. The filet was one of the freshest I have ever tasted and my friends had the ribs and they fell off the bone and were so well seasoned. I will definitely go back.

My family loves this place and drives a good distance to get there for special occasions. As I’m visiting, they wanted to take me to this great place. The location is beautiful, and I was impressed by the packed parking lot on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated quickly and waited upon fast and efficiently. I cannot complain about the service, very attentive and friendly. I was disappointed in the food, however. It wasn’t bad, really. Just«nothing to write home about». I guess for the area it passes for great, and I’m just a bit harder to please because I have many more choices where I live. I ordered the prime rib, medium-rare. I was served something I would call well-done. I asked and was told, «that’s how it is cooked». I guess they cook the whole roast to a medium-well or well-done because that’s what most people order. It did have a decent flavor, but I was very disappointed. The side-salad was a lackluster affair, with the dressing served on the side in a plastic cup like something from a convenience store. I guess I was expecting more given how my family had raved about the place.

We went as a group to try the ribs we had all heard about and they were everything we hoped for. The meat melted off the bone. The sweet potato fries were very good, although the other sides of slaw and mac & cheese were just average. The full rack($ 20) was ample for two people. We went during the week and so the place was not bustling. Our waitress was very efficient and friendly. Ribs this good deserve a good wine and here the Depot fails. The wine list has a very poor selection and even though it is in the heart of the Yadkin Valley appellation, the local wines which they offer lack the oomph for such a meal. The beer list is not much better. With a good wine to match, this place would merit an Excellent.

We heard a lot about this place from all the local residents. The property is very interesting with a cute bridge to cross as you travel in and park. At 4:30 pm on a Saturday afternoon, the place was PACKED! WIth all the build up, there was a lot to live up to. My wife and I sat at the bar to get instant seating. The wine selections are mostly local(which you would expect) and the beer selection was ok. Friendly staff and fast service. Now to the food. I ordered the full slab of ribs, stuffed baked potato and coleslaw. It was very good on all levels. My wife ordered the shrimp and scallop special. The main portion was fine, but the sides were not too good(brown rice and vegetables). Overall, if quantity of food is utmost important, than the Depot is a perfect spot! I enjoyed it, but know that Sanders Ridge or Trios in Mt. Airy offer better quality.
