Out of all the Mexican restaurants in Detroit, Nuestra Familia is by far my favorite. Great for large groups, friendly staff, generous portions, reasonable prices — this place has it all! Meals come with chips and an assortment of salsas — the medium red is my favorite. My go-to is a shredded chicken chimichanga: two mini burritos deep-fried and topped with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, and guacamole and accompanied with rice and beans. As a Chinese diner, there is sometimes a language barrier but the staff is very accommodating and patient and will work to make things right. Their value for service and quality is very evident. If you are looking for delicious tacos, I’d recommend one of the local taco trucks — but if you’re hoping for a Mexican sit-down, definitely give this place a try!

Fantastic spread. I couldn’t recommend it more. Adult beverages available, as well as local singing and lots of charm. Food is truly top. Authentic.

Went recently and it was as good as I remember it. Drinks were good, food was delicious, and super friendly service. I had the«gorditas de rajas con queso», and they never disappoint.

The chips were good & it seemed like a lively place but they messed up a lot of our orders. The server was obviously not listening to what we were ordering. Nonetheless, the food was decent and a lot of the other people I was with really enjoyed their orders.

Nothing to say that hasn’t already been said: Nice selection of taco meats, great service, nice clean location, and close to work. Since we’ve started hitting SW Detroit for lunch, this is(for now) our favorite Mexican restaurant.

After reading the glowing reviews, I had high hopes for this place. Unfortunately my partner and I walked out a bit disenchanted. There were some positives as well as negatives, to this dining experience. Start with the positives. The chips warm, nice variety and yummy salsas. The décor warm and welcoming. My enchiladas were tasty plus the beans and rice excellent, The carnitas were good. The negatives: service was poor, are server slow, the place wasn’t busy middle of afternoon. I ordered a small shrimp coctail and it arrived 5 minutes after we had got our entrees. The shrimp had an odd taste. My partner also had Al pastor not good no sweet pineapple flavor at all and was overcooked tasted like beef to me. Perhaps it was just an off day? It wasn’t awful just not what I thought it would be after reading reviews. I’ve learnned particularly with mexican cuisine opinions can fluctuate wildly. I might try it again, not sure, but for the time being I’m gonna stick with, Taqueria Lupita’s when in Mexican town.

So delicious, great authentic mexican food. The mild salsa is super flavorful and delicious. Home made tortillas are soft and taste great. I ordered the 4 tacos with rice and beans combo, I chose 2 pork loin tacos one chicken and one Carne asada. They were all delicious the carne asada was my favorite. The refried beans at this restaurant are THEBEST I’ve had anywhere would definitely recommend this gem!

Went here for the first time on Father’s Day. Very authentic Mexican cuisine. My son and I had beef tongue tacos for the first time and was pleasantly surprised as to how good they were. Overall, we enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The service was somewhat slow and several that ordered after us received their food well before we did. However, it appeared that our server was new and was trying her best to keep up. We’ll definitely be back.

Only once before have I had this quality of Mexican food. Everything was fresh and delicious. Salsas were amazing, and the pork and chorizo succulent. I would give five stars but for our poor service. Servings are plentiful. You can get dinner for two(w/o alcohol) for about $ 20 and still have leftovers. They have a full bar and a number of tasty looking specialty drinks.

Celebrated MLK day with a UYE crew that included Pauly G, Jeff H, and Lorna E. Pretty painless to get to, off-ramp of I-94, down Central Ave and into the Nuestra parking lot. Fairly well-sized, serves liquor, with complimentary chips and salsa when dining in. Ordered a couple of tacos for me, $ 1.25 tacos can’t be beat! Tasty with lots of meat, onions, and cilantro! We ordered several dishes to be shared– a fried fish, empanada with carne asada, chilaquiles, chile relleno, a pozole soup, gorditas, and a huevos dish. Along with a cerveza, I was so full and content by the end! And there was still enough for the others to take home leftovers. Excellent lunch, fun UYE with other Yeeps, and very reasonable for the amount of food. Recommend and will repeat when I’m in the area!

«One of the best Mexican Restaurants in the US» for Taqueria Nuestra Familia — this is only way I can sum up how I feel about this taqueria! This is the real deal here. No Tex Mex, just authentic Mexican cuisine. Large variety of soup, meats, juices, breakfast, salsas, you name it — they got it. Unfortunately no arrachera. This taqueria has the best carne asada I’ve ever had in the states. Their signature dish is their gorditas — a la carte or as a dinner. The most delicious, convenient way to eat your favorite Mexican meats. They also offer a full bar, loud music to get you pumped & each meal is served with a bowl of limes. What’s not to love?

We had best salsa and guacamole dip ever! Then came two different soups one with beef one with seafood which were both terrific. The steak and a whole fish were perfectly done. Great service friendly staff

Crazy awesome atmosphere. Cool art and cool tables. Staff is legit and most dont speak english so that was cool. THey also have new outdoor seating which is awesome. Cheap drinks. Huge menu. I have no clue what i got anymore but it was pretty good and pretty cheap. No complaints at all. They bring out 3 salsas with the free chips too so that is cool. Awesome place. I would be a regular if i lived in detroit.

The vibe is super weird and hilarious in here, and while my friend and I ate a guy came through selling purses and perfume, and another guy came through selling toothpaste out of a backpack. It was entertaining and now I know where to get a very unconvincing knock-off Michael Kors bag, should I ever need one. They have incredible homemade tortillas. I ate here a week ago, and I still can’t stop thinking about them. I would give five stars if they had real margaritas instead of ones made from a mix, but my demanding hipster ass can’t have everything, now can it?

Christmas Eve tacos you say? HELLYES! Steak tacos, minus onion sprinkled with a cilantro. Killer! Top it off with complimentary chips and three different types of salsa and you’ve got yourself a feast. The dark sauce/salsa was my favorite. My boyfriend had the Machacado. Delicious, and I’m not a fan of eggs. So if you want to sit you butt down on plastic covered, stereo-typical, colorful Mexican chairs while listening to the latest Mexicale tunes, this is your place. Awesome food. Great service although we were gypped out of limes and radishes. Next time, I’ll make sure to specifically ask since I’m not Hispanic. ;)

After reading all of the Unilocal Love & missing the Elite Outing, I felt I had to get there. Received a very warm welcome«Hola Amigos« The place was packed on a Saturday @ 4pm, had a delightful young server, who knew the menu inside & out, we ordered the chicken fajitas, which were good, but I think the Pork ‘Street’ Tacos for $ 1.40 were the deal of the day & Loaded with flavor! & the $ 4 Margarita was Fantastic! [ Loved the private secure/video surveillance parking lot.]
