T J’s Grill Works

Great food and service, a notch above your normal Coney Island or diner. Amazing chicken quesadilla with seasoned rice special on Thursday $ 8. Great location with People Mover stop in the building. Only open till 3pm though, that is perhaps is only downside. Credit and debit are currently accepted, in addition to cash.

This is my go to place on Fridays! the fish is out of this world most of the time. I really appreciate the service as long as you don’t go during the rush lunch hour. They close early in the day, around 3:00 I think, so plan accordingly.

Today at lunch time I ordered a carry-​out breakfast. Their #3 was supposed to include 2 types of meat. When I got back to my job and opened the package, I saw that there was no meat included. After finishing my so-​called breakfast I call TJ’s to advise them of the problem. They told me to bring it back and they’d refund my money. Well… that’s a problem. First, it’s too far to walk over there again, and second I had already eaten the evidence. They wouldn’t give me any kind of discount or compensation without them seeing firsthand that something was missing. So. bottom line: they just lost a customer
My co-​worker was with me, and she ordered a julienne salad, which was supposed to include a pita. When she opened her package there was no pita and no utensils. She gets lunch there quite often and stated that the customer service has been going downhill recently. So. bottom line: they just lost 2 customers

This place was decent but it’s so bad now. I don’t know if it’s new management or not… I always used to get breakfast burritos from this place with turkey bacon special $ 4.25. Today I ordered 2 burritos with turkey bacon, no pork it cost $ 16.85 I guess price went up but however after I got the burritos there was Curro (Mexican pork) in it… I called them back told them I absolutely said no pork can you make it again the lady was so rude said «sorry we ain’t going to make it n hanged up»… Really!!! I can’t believe all these years we gave them business especially working across the street… I told lots of people at Guardian and Bhul building about their service and I will never get any food from this place and all my staff will not step a foot in that place ever again… We have over 6k followers from downtown Detroit and I just posted about this on social media about your horrible service… I ate pork because of TJ grill work… Have a blessed day!!!

Always get TJ’s for lunch, I work across the street. Service is generally quick and service is decent, will return. They need more phone lines, every time I try to order for lunch phone is busy! Need to hire just phone answerers !

I work right downtown and T J’s is my go-​to place for a quick, reasonably priced lunch. You won’t find anything fancy here, but everything I’ve ordered has been correctly prepared and tasty, and the service is reliably quick.

Might be the best Fish and Chips I ever had. But they only have it on Friday. Bummer. They have some pretty exotic specials during the week too. Shepherds Pie? Awesome. Plus, they finally accept credit cards. Great little lunch spot. GREAT breakfasts, but I don’t have time in the AM.

Grill Works is my go to place when only a greasy gyro with fries will do for lunch. I don’t order from here often, but when I do, I’m happy. Grill Works is a popular take out place with people from my office; I don’t think I’ve ever eaten in. Calling ahead makes takeout even faster. There are a few places to sit and wait, but I’m impatient.
They have a big selection, the greek salad with chicken, and daily specials are popular with my coworkers. It’s also a good place for breakfast, if you just can’t start your day without eggs and hash browns. They open early.
This has got to be the only place downtown that doesn’t take credit, and I have to say the «cash only» policy has certainly driven me elsewhere on occasion.

If you must eat lunch in downtown Detroit, check out TJ’s Grill Works. TJ’s is a typical diner/​Coney Island type of place. It kinda reminds me of Monk’s from Seinfeld.
In a nutshell:
*They are clean.
*Servers are friendly.
*Orders are delivered promptly.
*The food is pretty good.
*The prices are decent.
I really enjoy their salads. I especially enjoy their special salads of the day, which, are not on the regular menu. On Monday’s, I get the TJ salad. It is my favorite Grill Works’ dish. It is a bountiful salad full of chicken and veggies. It is seasoned with dill and tossed in a really flavorful dressing. The taco salad sold on Wednesdays is really good, too. It is sizable, full of seasoned beef, and comes served in an edible shell.
