Steve’s Soul Food always hit’s the spot when I’m in the mood for the good homestyle cooking. The ac n cheese is delicious, the beans(both pinto and black-eyed peas) are divine, and that sweet potato pie is ALMOST as good as grandma’s. Additionally, I always seem to have happy servers when I frequent, so it keeps me coming back. I so strongly recommend that they make a larger pan of dressing though.

Best Soul Food. PERIOD. The chicken and yams and rice and beans are to die for. The banana bread pudding and peach cobbler is not to miss. Steve’s is the best in town.

Stopped in today because we were checking out places for our company Christmas party. AGAIN. Before we left, they have a Soul Food buffet on the bottom floor, so we went and got a to go box. The lady said to disregard the menu and said it changes all the time and they had a lunch special that ran at 6 something with an entrée and two sides a a drink. That sounded like a winner. I picked: Catfish(after looking at: Fried Chicken, Baked Chicken, BBQ Chicken, wings, Meatloaf, Ribs, and something else) Black Eyed Peas and Rice Greens (After Looking at Mashed potatoes, Mac n Cheese, Cabbage, Green beans, yams, and like 3 more things…) I also got some banana pudding(2.50) because it looked good. LOL, they mad huge slices of cake, mini sweet potato pies that looked delicious and they had self serve Kool-Aid in a huge vat. I paid about 11 bucks. I ended up eating there, and the food did not disappoint. The catfish was Excellent, the greens hit the spot, and the black eyed peas and rice were ok, almost had a touch of sweetness which i did not like, but the hot sauce took care f that. I would definitely go again now that i know its only 5 minutes away from the office.

Reviewing Key Club section ONLY! It’s official — IMOLD!!! First thing who pays $ 30 to get in an outside club scene; obviously not us but we got in on the low low. Drinks were high — only one shot measured in the drink starting at $ 10 so you know I have to drink the strongest drink I could get. Lol! Don’t judge me! There was someone semi-famous supposedly showed up at the last hr and female half naked walking in heels that hurt their feet. Oh u can tell those feet were barking — there were wasn’t any type of dress code. What I did like was security — tons and tons of hot guys in uniform.(Yummy!). I guess they were trying to make this seem like an high class club but unfortunately it was an epic fail. If I wasn’t celebrating a friends birthday then I would’ve left — I’m ok with a «hole in the wall» type of bar.

The food: Delicious The Environment: I think they were trying to go for a fancy ambiance but it doesn’t feel like that its just unnecessarily dark Service: Basically none. It is cafeteria style which makes it nice that your get hot food fast but the servers that were working seemed a bit rude. Overall it has great delicious food I just suggest eating your food at a different place.

Food was good. I wish that service was better. The resturant was hotter than outside.

They have really great barbecue and dressing. The area is not the best, but the food makes up for it. I also like there greens. I just have one pet peeve. The restroom smells awful. Other than that. I would come back for the food.

I am giving 2 stars to Steve’s Soul food because they are lacking in quality control. Starting with the food trays which were wet to the point where it was questioned by a patron in front of me if the trays were clean. Though it was 45 minutes before closing on a Sunday, there seemed to be plenty of food left and the line wasn’t very long… so we waited. It wasn’t clear if sides came with the entrees or if everything was a la cart. In the end 2 sides came with our catfish dinners. Nice-sized portions were served(greens and mashed potatoes). They saved a surprise for us, something we didn’t ask for and something that showed just how much pride they take in the quality if their product. I’ve uploaded a picture of a burned corn muffin… Who thought it was a good idea to even wrap the burned muffin? In fact, the more I think about it, the more I realize they only deserve 1 star. My friend reported the restrooms required major attention as well. So to answer the will I go back question, the answer is simply no.

This place rocks! Lunch specials are fantastic. $ 7.50 for an entrée, 2 sides, and a soft drink with unlimited refills til 3:30pm. Fried chicken, catfish, BBQ chicken, holy smokes. And their mac and cheese is yummy. Their dinners are a bit pricier(around $ 11), but they so hook up the portions. This place is nothing fancy: it’s a cafeteria-style place where the food is all in front of you and you just point at what looks the bomb. Everything comes with a little cornbread muffin, which I agree, isn’t the star item. The great thing here is that there’s hot sauce at the tables and TV’s on for a little low-key meal… Kind of like pigging out at home, but in public.

The catfish is just like your grandmas… The barbecue sauce is amazing. 3 thumbs up from me.

This is a solid, but not stellar, place. The standout for me were the collards… Holy Cow. Amazing. The meatloaf was tasty but a bit under seasoned and dense. The mashed potatoes and gravy were very good. My friend had the catfish, which I thought was also very good. Yams were nothing special. There are dozens of choices and possible combinations… my suggestion is to see what is hot and fresh on the line and go for that. You will not leave dissatisfied or unhappy.

I was not impressed with the food or the service. A variety of choices, but my baked chicken was dry and luke warm. The cornbread didnt taste like homemade, rather, it was a combination of Jiffy mix and cornmeal. The mac & cheese was bland, probably prepared using a generic ‘mild’ cheddar cheese.

2 words: LUNCHSPECIAL My co-worker & I hop in the car and make that quick drive to Steve’s every once in awhile during the summer when we’d like some good soul cookin for lunch. That being said, don’t think we do much working when we return to work. Food coma has set in, for sure. I can’t even recall their lunch special price, but you get one meat entrée, plus 2 sides and you get cornbread with every order. I honestly have enjoyed every meal(that i’ve had) here. No food complaints, but the service TIME can vary. The friendliness of the employees is great. There’s a lady there who is so nice and friendly and makes sure you are well taken care of. But back to the service time… if you have to wait for something that they may have just run out of on the line, be prepared to WAIT. I’ll have to edit this once I get ahold of the lunch special price, but it goes until 3 pm. They have your typical soul food offerings… I’m not even going to list them. My mouth may start watering. It’s worth a shot. I’d say give it a try.

I work down the road from this little place and decided to check it out on a lunch break. It’s ok, which is fine. Nothing really knocked my socks off. I’m puzzled by the fact that there was a gigantic line at 2:00 p.m.(well past the lunch rush) for this. Honestly, with Slows not far from this location, if I’m going to eat comfort food that’s heinously bad for me, I’ll make the extra drive for some truly excellent soul food and pass over Steve’s. I don’t really see myself returning(even though it’s so close!). Pros: — free parking — nice location if you work by the river — decent offerings Cons: — fairly expensive — cafeteria-style serving in styrofoam containers totally overcomes the nice atmosphere — giant line that I just don’t understand(I waited 30 minutes for takeout) 2 stars. 5 «mehs.»
