There’s nothing special about those place. I’ll support and come back because they’re black owned and the food is good. Nothing spectacular though.

So much good food! It’s a must if you are in the Detroit area looking for a good breakfast! I am sure their lunch items would be good as well! I had the chicken and waffles and they were really good! Beware they do only take cash, but there is an ATM located right outside the doors of the restaurant.

Chicken and Waffles are everywhere these days, but I can say that New Center Eatery does them right! They are available in a smothered fried chicken dinner, or a chicken wing dinner. Waffles are perfectly done, light and fluffy, yet crispy. I have had the chicken smothered and not, and both are great, depending on your mood. The sides are tasty, and do not require doctoring up… I also recommend their pound cakes for desert. I am partial to the blueberry poundcake, but they have several varieties available. Dine in or take out, the service is efficient, but if you are in need of take out, do your self a favor and call in advance. This spot is pretty popular. One final thing. Bring cash. They are among Detroit’s many cash only establishments, so bring your benjamins… they do have an ATM available though if you forget. By the way, if Detroit is so dangerous how do all of the cash only spots around town keep it together. Just thinking out loud…

Great chicken & waffles. Friendly service. There might be a short line but it moves quickly and it’s well worth the wait.

Pretty damn good chicken n waffles! I had the boneless strips w my waffle and loved it. Chicken was crispy and delicious but not heavy or greasy. Will try the original wings next time. My daughter had a breakfast skillet, and others in our group ordered cinn roll pancakes, red velvet pancakes, and a chicken caesar. Great little find. Would love to go back.

Chicken & waffles, nothing more, nothing less. So delicious. I’d recommend the wings or drumstick. The waffle is perfection. Even though you may be waiting in line for a while, they have a pretty efficient seating system so that you’re not trying to find a seat after you’ve received your order. Wait staff is really helpful. The place is clean and tidy.

The New Centery Eatery is one of my favorite Detroit dining spots. The food here is absolutely fantastic. I have not had a bad meal here. The chicken and waffles is awesome. I look forward to coming here just for those. Their waffles are scratch made and delicious. You will not be disappointed. I would also recommend trying the fried green tomatoes. I haven’t had a bad meal here. Good comfort food at excellent prices. The atmosphere is casual and friendly. It does get busy at peak times, especially weekend mornings. There is plenty of street parking available. The restaurant is in a safe location, right up the street from the Fisher Building. Definitely give the New Center Eatery a try. You will wind up a regular like me!

If you’ve never tried chicken and waffles ignore the persistent one-liners surrounding them and the stereotypical conventions and grab yourself a plate. Specifically, try a variety of choice chicken and waffles from here. They’re good, atmosphere is unassuming, the portion is worth the money, and –most importantly– you’ll leave full and happy. Wether you like sweet, savory, or spicy they’ve got you covered at many times of day and night. After probably 10 cash only visits I try to keep $ 20 on me just in case I unexpectedly need this addictive combo. It’s the type of place you take a visiting sibling after drinks and laugh at yourself because you don’t fit in to their R&B vibe(at all) but you jam anyways because it’s 1 am.

I’m a huge fan of chicken and waffles, and I’ve made it a point to eat at every establishment in Detroit that serves them. My quest has led me to the New Center Eatery, and boy was I surprised! They have a huge menu selection so I had a ton of options. Everything sounded so good, but I finally settled for the sexy kitty’s red velvet waffles drizzled with cream cheese icing and all I could say is wow! The food was amazing but I’ll let you know now, it’s pricey. There weren’t to many selections on the menu under $ 10, there also isn’t a whole lot of seating for guest, it’s very cramped inside. They don’t have a ATM, and they only deal in cash, do have some handy! All in all its a really cool spot and I’ll be back for sure, the food was great, but pricey, only cash so keep some on deck!

I will give this place 3 stars. It is a long wait depending on the day. You have to wait in line to order your food, then get seated if there is room. They accept CASH only. I’m not sure if you’re suppose to tip here but I did. The service was good, music was great. Small and should be bigger

Three words: chicken and waffles. Thus far, this place is the best in the area if you’re craving some savory, seasoned wings and a light, vanilla flavored waffled, kissed in mapley(I know that’s not a word) syrupy goodness. Let me just take a moment to pontificate about these waffles. Seriously. They are THAT good. I can’t even tell you how much I love them. And I’m not even that big of a waffle fan. These waffles are light and airy, almost ethereal. Somehow they managed to make the inside soft and chewy, but not dense, while the outside remains crispy and golden. And the flavor. You taste the vanilla, but there’s a hint of something else that I just can put my finger in. Can you tell how much I enjoy the waffles? The chicken is good. It’s a solid complement to the waffles, but it isn’t the star. It could be seasoned a bit better, but it’s still good. The combination of the two… lets just say if this baby weren’t asleep in my lap, if be in my car driving the 30 miles for the chicken and waffles.

I was not a believer in the power of chicken and waffles. It sounded just too weird. I have seen the light now. Their waffle is a great size, with great flavor that pops even more with maple syrup. The grilled chicken is seasoned nicely and juicy. And the portion sizes are plenty generous. You don’t leave hungry for more. I’ve also had a cheeseburger there, and it is a solid cheeseburger. A little small, but good flavor. My only two complaints would be: 1) Service can be somewhat inattentive. While you get your food promptly, drink refills are at best hit and miss. 2) Cash only? Really? This is 2015. You don’t have to use carbon paper and call for authorization anymore. There’s no excuse not to have credit. If you live or work in the New Center area, this is a great place to get lunch. But if you don’t get there before noon, be prepared for a wait. This place has a reputation for a reason!

Dessert was basic(lemon cheesecake), or my lunch would have been five stars. The setting was warm and friendly. The musical chatter of each tables conversation was melodious to my ears. I am not sure if the credit machine was down but the cash only option needs to be updated. The waffles were so delicious I would pay in pesos so the cash option was ok… only because the food is so good. The chicken was flavorful with the right amount of crisp. I cannot wait to return for the five dollar chicken and waffle plate for 5.00 bucks served daily(I think), from 5pm-10pm.

The food is ok. I had salmon croquettes w/grits and eggs. My friend had the chicken an waffles. What was most disappointing was the«Cash Only» option and the jangly ATM option in the hallway!

Stopped by here after staying late at work and the evening was a bust at 8pm. I’ve been here before in the day time, and greedily seeking out and demolishing their chicken and waffles. This time, I was just happy it was open. It was already dark, and I quickly found street parking. I work all over Detroit and pretty comfortable where ever I go, so I found it the bright light a comfortable beacon on a street that wasn’t too brightly lit. An attentive security guard kept an eye on me as I paid the meter. Take this for what you may, but it was very chill and relaxed inside. A variety of folks eating in and carrying out like me. Friendly and easy to chat with. I was pleased to learn that from 5pm-10pm, their chicken and waffles meal(1 belgian waffle and 4 wings) was only $ 5 bucks. Crispy, seasoned wings with crisp, buttery waffle. I’m not one for over the top foodie exultations, but that food really hit the spot. Thank you New Center Eatery, you made this Detroit girl’s night.

This is a pretty chill spot. It’s near the Fisher Theater so you can check it out after a late show or night out on the town. There is metered parking on the street and a lot adjacent to the restaurant. There are always police officers on duty in the restaurant, which is nice. On the weekends, they stay open until 4 a.m. They accept cash only but there’s an ATM in the lobby. The space is not very big but they recently added more booth so they can fit a good amount of people. The space itself seems clean and tidy. The menu is posted on the wall on the left hand side as you enter. You go up to the front, place your order, and take a seat. They provide you with a number and your waiter brings you your order and waits on you for the remainder of your visit. They are known for their chicken and waffles so if you’ve never been before, you have to try the chicken and waffles. You can get traditional chicken wings or boneless chicken tenders. After 5 p.m.on most days, you can get chicken and waffles for $ 5, which is a nice deal. To me, the waffle is the best part. It’s perfectly cooked, soft and chewy, and leaves a sweet, lingering taste in your mouth. Add the hot, buttery syrup and you’re in for a real treat. The chicken is also quite tasty but I find it’s even better when I add hot sauce. All in all, it’s a solid combination. I’ve had the chicken and waffles twice. The first time I went, it was really good. The second time I had it, it was on a Sunday after church. They were super busy and it took a long time for the food. I was a little disappointed because my chicken was underdone. I chalked it up to them being really busy and trying to get the food out quicker. I’ve also tried the healthy scramble with turkey sausage links, the red velvet waffle(quite tasty but looked more like strawberry than red velvet), grilled salmon, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and yams. My eating companion also had the chef’s salad. It was a nice size portion. If you’re in the area, I would definitely recommend trying it out!

I always get either the Chicken and waffles or catfish. You really can’t go wrong with those two. The chicken is so crunchy, hot, and juicy. You get four wings with the chicken and waffle meal and at first I thought that was skimpy because I like to eat. A lot. But the whole dish is really filling. Same goes for the catfish. Btw — the waffle is so light and melts in your mouth! If you like heavier, richer waffles, this might not be your cup of tea. The entrees are made fresh, but I can’t say the same for the sides(mashed potatoes were dry, macaroni and cheese was a little cold and overcooked and tasted as if it had been out awhile). Nonetheless, the catfish and chicken and waffles still reign supreme in my book. The staff is always nice to me, as well as the security officer who is always there at night — he has walked me out to my car just to make sure I was safe! I live in the area so naturally I feel safe, but hey, anything can happen anywhere at any time. This place gets two thumbs up from me and is a place that I go to frequently.
