Motz Burgers is one of the few hidden burger joint gems in Detroit. Sure you have other awesome places like Telway on Michigan Ave. Motz Burgers is some of the best sliders you will find in Southwest Detroit heck maybe even in the whole state. The prices are very low for the quality and the items you receive in there«Specials» menu. The famous Motz sliders all come with Caramelized Onion, Pickle, the Standard condiments such as mustard and ketchup. The meat is fresh and extremely juicy, but not overwhelmingly where the buns may fall apart ruining your whole burger experience. The French Fries are fresh, crunchy and not the overly greased soggy fries you may get at some burger joints. This place is awesome I have only tried the sliders, but over hearing some of the customers that the Chicken Sandwich is a pretty popular item as well. I will try things as I go along, but as of now if these burgers are this good I can only imagine what the other items may taste like.

Outstanding old-school burgers with everything they need: ketchup, mustard, pickles, and lots of fried onions. Thanks to «Under the Radar Michigan» for cluing me in to this little spot. Jalapeño poppers on the side, too!

After reading all the reviews thus looked like an amazing place, got directions and came here and sign reads, «ALLSOLDOUT of BURGERS.» What the ??? Your a burger place and you don’t know how to manage your inventory ?? Horrible, don’t waste my time.

As simple as a burger should be… the sliders are great. A throwback to the simple days of burger joints. A grill, a cook, a waiter, and a counter to eat you freshly prepared burger. Had the two sliders with cheese and grilled onions, fries, and washed it down with a coke. A longtime Detroit favorite that is worth the visit.

Thank you Unilocal for recommending Motz as a burger place to try. I had no idea they were there and I have lived just the other side of the Rouge River bridge for almost 20 years. I love supporting small private business where people care about the food and your experience instead of a fast food franchise where people are just there to collect a paycheck. While I am not a huge fan of burgers… these were really good. I find White Castle sliders disgusting so wasn’t sure I would like these. I loved them!!! I got the 2 cheeseburger special and couldn’t eat my second burger because the first one was so filling! The fries were crispy outside and soft inside… perfect. .then it got even better with malt vinegar. Local atmosphere where they obviously have a connection with regular customers. Feel like I found a gem that my husband and I can agree on when we want a burger. Thanks Motz for a great Saturday lunch!!!

My wife and I learned about Motz’s through a Unilocal recommendation. We were not disappointed. This place is what a burger joint should be, and the burgers deserved their beloved status. Whether you’re coming to eat a meal on a stool or take a sack home, this IS the place. And to Motz’s, thank you for bringing back memories of lunch on a Saturday with my father. You guys rock!

It is a solid 4 stars but I had to do 3 because of the rude service me and the friend popped in and I don’t know if this was just a off day which I assume due to all the other positive reviews the place is been here for years and I have driven by it hundreds of times the burger is a little larger than normal and again unfortunately lol I have to agree with Liz once you are a custom to your favorite burger place it’s hard to compare it’s definitely no tellway but all in all good food a little pricey for sliders but you do get a larger size the tall white male in his late thirties I think was just having a bad day but was extremely rude and could not stop looking at my friend in a off manner all of the orders or interactions we’re kept very short and Curt again definitely a four star and I will go back to bump it back up hopefully everybody is entitled to an off day but this just really put both of us off you will be full just on to if you have not been it is a definite stop

I was faithful to Telway, but after visiting Motz’s for the 1st time the only way I’ll go back to Telway is if Motz’s is closed, much bigger sliders, cleaner atmosphere, fresher ingredients, more variety…

A visit to Motz is like a visit to the past. Business people and blue collar workers on at the tiny counter on swivel chairs eating the best burger available. In business for 80 plus years, there is nothing quite like a visit to Motz’s. More substantial than a mere slider, the Motz burger is the best one you will ever have. I would not want to be in this neighborhood at night, but the place closes at 5 and I have never felt endangered. The people who come in to Motz come from all walks of life and the people that run it are a good bunch. You really need to make a visit here. It is Detroit history.

THISISTHEPLACEFORREALSLIDERS– INVENTEDINDETROIT. I remember when they were MOTT’s and open 24 hours. I made many trips for myself and my mom(she loved them). You know that when the grease soaks through the bag by the time you get home, these delicious delights are going to slide down smooth and easy. And the the fried onions, like working class caviar. After you taste these burgers, you will think about moving back to Detroit.

Motz’s Sliders are very similar to other sliders that can be found around the Detroit metro area. What set’s them apart is their personable service and the quality of their ingredients. The people working here were amazing. They were kind to everyone, the two local guys here on one of their multiple time a week visits, the down on their luck hoping to sit in peace and enjoy a cold drink on a hot day, and my father a Detroit ex-pat and his foodie son. Smiles were shared and stories were swapped. A warm reminder that even in a «bad» neighborhood there are always good people trying their best to do things the right way. This philosophy was readily evident in their burgers. Cooked through on a hot griddle, thin shaved onions caramelized into one side of the patty, served on a hot steamed bun. The perfect three or four bites a burger to fill you up for about five bucks. They taste like most other sliders, no explosions of flavor, just a few ingredients well highlighted through consistent cooking technique. For me the quality of the food was apparent when after my meal I felt like I could take on the world. I wasn’t bogged down with a greasy feeling in my stomach, rather I felt great. And who couldn’t use a lunch that makes them feel like they can do anything?

When it comes to sliders, motz is my favorite in metro detroit. Larger and cheaper than hunter house. Also, the burger is made with high quality ingredients. If you’re lucky, you might catch a few prostitutes hanging out on fort street too. Can’t beat that ambiance!

The three staff members working were wearing clean black shirts with the Motz’s logo. They didn’t seem tired or angry, as one might expect in a busy and grease-soaked diner. They looked happy to serve us, and acted accordingly. The others ordered quickly, and Frank got a corndog for some reason. When I asked the cashier for three cheeseburgers, no ketchup, a chocolate malt, and onion rings, he asked me: «Are you on a slider crawl?» «well, no. But we eat a lot of burgers.» His question implied that slider crawls are a thing. The idea of even one measly slider at each of Detroit’s slider places is a little horrifying to me. I imagine them floating in the nether-regions of my stomach, pounding on the walls and wailing like a group of lost souls newly dropped into hell. I consider myself a courageous eater, but there are some lines that we are not meant to cross. The Sliders at Motz’s come standard with mustard, ketchup, onion, and pickles. They are a little bit bigger than Telway’s and fill you up accordingly. In traditional slider fashion, the onions are cooked alongside the patties, and then directly under the patties until the burger is combined with buns that have been steamed under towels laid across the griddle. The patties are cooked all the way through to form a kind of lifeless shade of brown/gray that you might find in a fast food burger, although a bit more attractive. I was worried they didn’t have the grill on high enough– neither the patties nor the onions had any char to them. The strings of onion were brown and starting to caramelize. Only Carl ordered a normal sized burger, the bacon burger, as the rest of us couldn’t resist the sliders. The burger looked great, especially next to the turdly-looking slider sitting next to it. After devouring it, he described the patty to be the same as the sliders, cooked through but without any char. It sounded gross to me, but he enjoyed it well enough. My patties were lifeless, not salted, and barely beefy — All the things that I am against when it comes to any kind of burger. The yellow mustard provided no contrast to any of the other flavors, so adding more was confusing. I felt like a child wandering into a conversation that I couldn’t understand. It didn’t make anything stand out or fade away. One thing that stood out to me was the pickles, which tasted extra fresh — they stood in stark contrast to what I found was a truly unremarkable burger. (read the rest at )

Have wanted to hit up MOTZ Burgers, as it gets lots of Unilocal love. Monday did a dual road trip, MOTZ Burgers & The Calder Dairy. Motz Burgers was very good, very affordable & the kitchen crew turned out our lunch in no time flat. The service was 5 star all the way! Lunch for 2, only cost us $ 6.90
