I Visited Luckis W. McNichols Location On 01/05/2016. I Specifically Came To Get The Superman Cheesecake Because I Heard How Delicious It Was. As I Looked At The Different Varieties I Didn’t See The One I Was Hunting. I Inquired and The Nice Lady Told Me If I Had a Few Minutes She Could Get It Ready For Me. Wonderful Customer Service and The Cheesecake Was Definitely Worth The Wait!

I cruised in here because I had a Groupon. It is right next to Detroit Mercy, so you do have to cruise through the ‘hood to get here. Whatever. I got the Snicker’s cheescake and loved every bit of it. Unlike cheesecake factory, they do not get carried away with the flavors and it is actually cheesecake that you taste. This was my breakfast for a few days and worth every calorie.

This place gets a thumbs down in every aspect. The location was terrible(in the hood, just not very safe looking). Went in to see several cheesecakes which looked old, dry, slimy, just not fresh or appealing. I won’t be very specific(confidentiality) but I’ll just say that there were clumps of cream cheese(or something white) in the cake. The cake was mushy and I didn’t taste any cream cheese. I couldn’t even get my family members to try it, that’s how gross it looked. Seems like the baker is an amateur and has no real baking skills. Customer service was unprofessional and too casual. I could tell that they forgot that customers can spread news good or bad about their business when they woke up and and tried to save face towards the end. I think some of the other comments must be written by friends or relatives because this place just doesn’t sit well with me.

I would have never stopped at Lucki’s had it not been for an associate mentioning in on his page(Social media does work for small business). The strawberry cake cheesecake he bought looked mouthwatering. So I stopped by Luckis and realized that it was right near the corner of Six Mile & Livernois near Lou’s. A small, local business started by a young lady who is enrolled in college pursuing her degree. There are over 50 flavors on the standard menu for Luckis Cheesecake. Some of your regular flavors and unique ones’ such as Junk Food Cheesecake and Run Cake Cheesecake. I bought a couple of slices and took them home to taste test with the family. The cheesecake is not your normal full slice of cheesecake as some have a mix of cake in them. For example the caramel cake cheesecake is an infusion of cake + cheesecake wrapped in caramel flavor. Really rich, sweet & tasty. I couldn’t eat an entire slice, which run $ 3 each. If you aren’t a sugar fan, but like cheesecake there is a sugar-free option. They take cash, credit cards, and ebt cards for the sweet treats that range from $ 20-$ 45 for a whole cheesecake. It’s best to call 2 days in advance if you want something in particular. When I went there were only 10 different flavors out. For you daring people, there is a salmon cheesecake. Never thought of salmon in cheesecake, but hey then again there is a market for ice cream with bacon.

(ADDED– Just raised it to four stars realizing that I have been dreaming of their cakes, so it deserves better). Quite tasty. Many varieties from key lime to salmon and sausage…(No have not tried the odd ones yet, but I will. So why not five stars? Welllllll… it’s not really cheesecake. It’s soft and creamy and flavorful, but I wouldn’t call it cheese cake. More like the cream cheese cake recipe on the side of the Philadelphia brand box. Looking for a sugar buzz? This is the place. Looking for a gourmet dessert, well, not here. Don’t get me wrong. I will be back. I am happy that they are in the area… I am just a touch sad that they don’t live fully up to their name.

Lucki’s is one of the best kept secrets in Detroit! Her cheesecakes are to die for, and flavors range from Oreo, Dutch Apple, to my favorite, Strawberry Apple Cheesecake(it features fresh strawberries, apples, graham cracker crumble and caramel drizzle). I promise to post a pic of these delectable(and reasonably priced) cheesecakes asap. Lucki also makes pies and cookies, what are you waiting for? Get this, Lucki is still under 25!
