Beautiful restaurant with excellent service. Enormous soup servings. Good tacos. Very easy on the wallet. La Consentida is the newest in a long series of Mexican restaurants trying to cut it in this location next to Mexicantown bakery. It’s predecessors(at least three different reincarnations of La Tapatia) were all great menus, but the customer base just wasn’t there for some reason, which is too bad cause it’s a gorgeous little restaurant with two levels and a great view of the park. Perhaps La Consentida’s advantage over those lost gems is its simplified menu. They do tacos, tortas, and burritos(tacos for $ 1 is as cheap as it gets) which are good. Their soups(caldos, pozole, menudo) are delicious and enormous. Unless you’re souping it up with the whole family, do yourself a favor and order the small. Its still bigger than any bowl I have in my house. They also have oregano on the table for the pozole, which helps add character to the very tender meat in the broth. Their chiles rellenos is super delicious though served without salsa on top(you can add the salsa that’s served with your chips). They have horchata too, though I think it wasn’t listed on the menu. The paired down menu doesn’t really offer any surprises. And I couldn’t say that any of the plates I’ve had were the best in the area. But the restaurant is warm and inviting, the staff kind and attentive, and if nothing else, the soups definitely hold up to repeat visits.
