Detroit Town Apartments is a nice place to live. It is affordable and the community is without compare. The whole enviorment has been welcoming and helped me to feel very comfortable in my new home: Downtown Detroit. The staff is great – which makes the fact that they are your neighbors even better – even if the management leaves something to be desired. But living at DTA is not without it’s challenges. From the very beginning I was disappointeed to learn that there was not adequate parking in the building and I would have to park somewhere else. Also, the rent ended up being about $ 100 more per month than advertised. Living at DTA has had its own challenges. In my time at DTA I have had both cockroaches and bed bugs. The Apartments are helpful in resolving these issues, but that is to be expected as it was basically their fault. And then there is the facilities. The vast majority of the time the systems work well. But the elevators will shut down randomly. The laundry room might be shut down for a week at a time, hot water might be turned off or the heat in my apartment might fall by ten degrees, all without any notice before hand. And as an example, the torn up hallway on my floor, which was supposed to be rennovated«soon» when I moved in, remians unrennovated 6 months in. All of these things do not make DTA bad, per se, simply below par. Overall, I think the key is that you get what you pay for. The fact that rent is so comparably cheap means you have to deal with some of these challenges.
