OMG, a prohibition era Detroit pub still thriving nearly 100 years later. The Cadieux Café is legendary In Detroit. Its mussels are not to be missed in any month with an «r» in it. Go as a group and reserve the two lanes of feather bowling in the courts connected to the restaurant, Feather bowling is a Belgian game played on a concave dirt bowling lane with a large pigeon feather at each end of the lane. You bowl a large wooden object, shaped like an oversized jelly doughnut, down the concaved dirt lane and try to get as close as you can to the feather. Your opponent tries to knock your object out and get closer himself. But back to the food! Many delicious Belgian dishes are served, along with several European beers. A serving of 50 mussels for one comes with melted butter, tangy mustard and bread to soak up the yummy juices. The stand-alone brick café has a free large fenced parking lot and is in a working class neighborhood. Inside, it looks like an old neighborhood bar because it is, minus the«Cheers» crowd. So dress comfortably and leave your pretentions at the door.

This is one of those little landmarks that one should not miss if you’re in Detroit for more than a few months. Mussels were well prepared and it was fun just to watch the feather bowling for a while.

Totally love this place. One of my absolute favorites. Live music, nifty jukebox selection, awesome food, great drinks. The staff is always more than welcoming. Haven’t tried the feather bowling yet, but I can’t wait!

Rip off! I just spent $ 20 on breadsticks, raw green beans and mussels the size of a dime. Gave up shelling because they were so tiny! What happened to this wonderful place? Gone, gone, gone.

Cadieux Café is memorable to me for two things and two things only: First and foremost, my car was stolen from right outside while I was inside with a party of several people and some idiot inside later told me he saw my car get jacked and didn’t think to say anything about it til I ran back in with some of my friends. Really memorable. Second: they have the world famous feather bowling. It’s fun, I guess, but it sure doesn’t make up for my car getting stolen from outside the bar. Would I go here again? Are you kidding me, not ever because my CARWASSTOLEN. No, never ever. The beer was okay, not that impressive and kind of expensive for how it tasted, but maybe my perception is clouded because my car was stolen. If you go, take a cab. I should have but it didn’t even occur to me.

Wow, this place is like a secret clubhouse of coolness. The karaōke on Wednesday nights is off the chain and some of the best I’ve heard anywhere. Everyone from the bouncer to the bartender is cool and friendly. There’s a really warm and soulful feeling up in here. Don’t be afraid to go because it’s in «Detroit», ok? It’s really on the border of Grosse Pointe and Grosse Pointe Farms, which most know are fantastic areas. Nice pub menu with a Belgian slant. Yes, Belgian. I had the fish and chips, which were solid. Their speciality is mussels(I guess it’s a Belgian thing), which I haven’t tried yet, but they looked awesome. They also serve Faygo pop, which IS a cool Detroit thing. I don’t even know what featherbowling is, but they have it. I really liked this place and would try just about anything here.

I stopped by here for a late dinner, around 9:00 pm. Ordered mussels. Incredible, very tasty. And the Mussel soup was excellent. Really was an enjoyable meal, sat at the bar. The bartender Dan was perfect. Didn’t pester us, and didn’t ignore us. There was karaōke, and the people participating were damn good. I was shocked with the overall experience. Great job cadieux café, thank you.

As good as it gets… for sure… but not for the food, the service, or the feather bowling… but for it just being an ultimately cool place to go. Yep, some places are just that… Pure MIchigan, Pure Detroit, whatever cliché saying you can conjur up will do… It’s been here forever, so it doesn’t need a bunch of reviews to make it’s mark It’s done that on it’s own.

This place really is cool and I don’t understand how featherbowling isn’t more widespread at bars across america. Would probably recommend going with a group, my dad and I went by our selves and I mean, it wasn’t bad it just was a little boring going one person at a time then switching sides, etc.

Food is awesome, feather bowling! Karaōke on Wed nights and great drinks that are well priced. Great place to bring friends from out of town. Great for meeting friends for a drink.

I was in Detroit for two days for work and my wife looked up a group of restaurants. I chose this one based on the menu list but was so so surprised by the atmosphere and nature of the place. Old trophies lined the shelf above the tap like every good hole in the wall bar – wrapped in old Christmas lights no less. A community room was full of several big groups of friends enjoying buckets of mussels and fries upon fries. Adjacent to this main room there’s two fantastically ancient Feather Bowling lanes. What? That looks like so much fun. And the food was amazing. I had the delicious Oberon with a twist of orange along with the authentic Belgian Dip and a cup of the soup of the day(Belgian). The sandwich was perfectly moist and the au jus was piping hot and fresh. The roast beef was melt-in-your-mouth along with the Holland cheese. I would love to have been here with a huge crowd of people and had a bowling match! A fantastic experience.

Stopped in here for some Feather Bowling Friday night. We didn’t eat here, but we had a few drinks, enjoyed the band and bowled for about an hour. The Feather Bowling, while pricey, was great fun. No one bothers to tell you how to do it, luckily we both read up on it ahead of time, and got there about 30 minutes early to watch others try it out. We played on the left hand lane, and quickly figured out that depending on which direction you are rolling, the lane plays way differently. The actually game was a helluva lot of fun. Despite it being the first time I’ve lost at an obscure or non-traditional sport while playing against said companion, I thoroughly enjoyed the game. We both had a lot of fun, much more fun that I had envisioned. We even stayed to watch others play a couple of games, which was almost as fun as playing ourselves. I’d definitely go again just for the bowling. Thanks for hosting a fun night out.

Two things you must partake in at Cadieux… Feather bowling AND the Mussels! This local watering hole is one of my favorites. I can’t tell you how many fantastic bands I have seen here or laughs I have shared with friends. If you are looking for a laid back place to hang with your friends and enjoy the night I highly suggest The Cadieux Café. If you have never feather bowled you need to. Its kind of like bowling meets bocci ball meets kurling. I have been a fan since I was old enough to get into a bar and well that’s been a year or 20. The Cadieux never disappoints.

Friendly and helpful bartenders! We were there on a quiet Monday night and had a great time! Since we were new to Feather Bowling the bartender gave us the run down on the rules of play and set us loose to have at it! Nice selection of beer & large bowl of yummy spicy mussels to keep us thirsty. A bucket list spot for me :)

Love. Love. Love. I never make a trip home to Detroit without stopping at the Cadieux Café. The bucket of mussels is huge and delicious. Yummy beer options. Simple fresh salad. Great service. Fun t-shirts. I actually liked arriving at 4p …

Awesome Detroit restaurant. The mussels were super yummy(and only 1 out of 50 hadn’t opened; probably the best ratio I’ve ever had). Great clam chowder, great beers, amazing Brussels sprouts appetizer. Our waiter suggested the special tap beer, the Adelardus, and my dad and I thought it was amazing. One of the best beers I’ve ever had. My only gripe was that the frites are just French fries, not done special like I’ve had at other places that do moules et frites. I can’t wait to go back!

So I’m giving this place 5 stars because not only was it the place me and hubby went on our first date but the old school great hospitality feeling is still there they have a great selection of local beer and drinks and though I can’t say I have tried the food based on the reviews it sounds like its worth a try next time I go. it’s right around the neighborhood so stop on in and give it a try I’m sure you will be impressed.

Great beer list, although I was disappointed that the first two types of beer I ordered were out of stock, and wound up getting a lukewarm Guinness. The cherry Lambic they did have was lovely, although it came with a $ 10 price tag. Ah well.. I came here for the mussels anyway, and they did not disappoint. They are served up in a huge bowl, and this is the only place where I can actually get full eating mussels. I love dunking some bread in the broth, too. Yum! I’m a cole slaw aficionado of sorts, and this place has an awesome slaw, and the serving is generous. For the $ 18.95 price of the mussel dinner, you also get a choice of potato(in addition to the soup/salad or slaw), so I decided to try the spinach mashed potatoes which were served heaping on a plate, enough for two people. However, I wasn’t impressed with these — they weren’t bad, just meh. I didn’t have room to eat that huge pile of spuds, anyway! Others at my table ordered the fish and chips, and they were very pleased with their food. I keep saying that someday I’ll sample some of their other fare, but I can’t seem to *not* order mussels when I’m here! Service here is prompt and friendly, too.

Went once and it was a mixed experience. I had a good time feather bowling — that was until the ‘lane’ flooded over with rain(sewage?) due to heavy rainfall. They ended up giving us all our money back, but I was looking forward to playing a little more. The PBR’s were only $ 2 and the mussels were pretty good too.(They gave us a huge bowl of ‘em. Didn’t even get close to finishing them.) I want to go back and play feather bowling. They play good music in there too. It was like a 70’s acid trip with all the Fleetwood Mac playing!
