Looks aside(inside and out needs a makeover) it’s a good place to order on the menu or off. They have a soul food buffet that is well stocked and everything tastes good. Costs are very inexpensive so it’s good on your wallet and stomach. Everyone I interacted with was very nice and helpful. I don’t have a bad thing to say about anything but the décor. Windows are drafty and it looks like the older Big Boys with the brown on brick style. Some of the equipment needs updating also(they still have a PA system).

Ok the good… fried chicken, black eyed peas, corn bread.etc.Were actually pretty amazing. The bad… Ghetto as a mf dirty silverware, lack of variety, did I mention ghetto. Yes lord.

This is probably the most disgusting food I’ve ever had in my life. Don’t come here. I paid about $ 45 for mediocre(at best) food for 3 people. Never. Again.

Ummm… you guys… there is a SOULFOOD buffet at this Big Boy. What’s more, it actually looks pretty decent for a soul food buffet at a Big Boy. Especially the fried chicken. Mmmm… Fried Chicken. I sat right next to this buffet for my entire meal and boy did I ever feel like the odd man out. It seemed EVERYONE was noshin’ on this buffet, except for us. My family and I ordered some fish and chips and fork&knife chicken breast(and some grilled cheeses for the kids). Our meals were standard Big Boy fare, which is to say edible if nothing special. If you like sodium to be the major flavor agent in your food you’d be just fine with this stuff. But that buffet? That’s gonna be calling my name next time I am driving to Belle Isle. I want to load up on chicken and corn bread and nuclear-orange yams and greens and meatballs and black-eyed peas and whatever the heck else people were loading multiple overflowing plates with. I even watched one lady eat the crispy fried coating off of at least a dozen pieces of chicken like she didn’t even give a fuck. Because… wait for it… she didn’t have to! Send that naked chicken on back to the kitchen and put it in the garbage or re-bread it for someone else to eat. Who cares?! It’s a buffet! Eat ‘em up!

You can always count on this place to have nice hardworking people to serve you here. Not the cleanest or best neighborhood but all of it is served with intention and love.

I had a taste for a big boy! It was really good, fresh, wonderful step back to childhood! My husband had the salad bar for $ 13.99…good chicken, some parts of the bar tasted spoiled. I put a small spoonful of rice on a plate with a spoonful of spaghetti which our two year old put a bite in his mouth which the waitress said she was charging me $ 6.99 for his bite. He did not eat it wanted a burger which I ordered $ 4.99…out the door for $ 49 which you can. Get better in this town! I did buy a banana cream pie for $ 10.99 fresh & wonderful! Buy the pies here!!!

It’s a friendly place but my aunt fries were hard as pencils and our glass cups were dirty.

So, I admit it, I’m Unilocaling right now from this very Big Boy. I’m addicted, I love this Big Boy. They have long hours(it’s 12:30am now and they will be open for another hour and a half), free wireless internet, and very friendly servers. I usually get the spaghetti with meat sauce because I can sit for three hours and just eat and play on the computer. Refills of spaghetti are free! I also like the Brawny Lad, a burger with only butter and sliced vadilla onion on a rye bun. Yum. Bryan mentioned the breakfast buffet, also a favorite. This Big Boy is unique in that it has a fabulously out of control soul food buffet. Love the peach cobbler! The greens are really good too. So is the fried chicken. Actually, it’s all good. The only drawback at this restuarant so far has been the bathroom. The women’s restroom is NASTY, so if you can’t hold it, be prepared to disinfect your entire body afterwards.

Woohoo… I’m #1. Ahem, back to business. The breakfast bar is awesome here. Its not a fancy place, but a great place to get a fresh filling breakfast. Read a paper(like in the olden days) and drink a coffee before going out to Belle Isle to relax, walk etc. Weekend breakfasts are a bit more crowded. If you’re friendly, the waitress may even call you sugar. I like that! Everything else is as you would expect from Big Boy. However, sometimes the fish tank at the front smells like it needs cleaning — although it always looks great. Enjoy.
