I would have never thought that a football and bowling pins would go together so well! I enjoyed the Unilocal outing. We were treated to a fowling good time and I learned how to play a new game. Annette brought in pizza from Amicci’s to start of the outing. A quick mystery brew from the vending machine and a fun time was had. I was skeptical as to how I would do when playing and I was right: I sucked, but had fun doing so. The Unilocalers there were food sports and the added $ 1 off libations with our wristband was a plus. I’d return to play again with friends as the $ 10/person fee was not bad. I spend that on espresso and a sandwich or cover for an outing downtown. What I liked most about the evening was that the Fowling Warehouse is a hidden gem in Hamtramck/Detroit(depending on what your GPS says). I had fun and so did my +1. Definitely worth another visit soon.

This was Sooooo fun! I’ve been wanting to go fowling for a while now but hadn’t been able to talk my husband into going(yet). Lucky as I am we were chosen for this event and I couldn’t be happier. Being from Europe the closest I’d ever been to a football is on my tv, so it was interesting to get to throw one. Which is trickier than it seems. it bounces and goes all over the place. I spent my first 20 minutes afraid of all the balls flying around, but after that I actually really got into the game! Turns out I am much better at catching a football than I am at chucking one at a bunch of pins. This revelation put me in charge of defense and him in charge of, well., scoring. The fun thing is that you not only have to worry about your opponents, there is also collateral damage you need to concern yourself with. If the ball from a different team knocks down your pins, it counts as a strike against you. We met great people, had a ton of fun, my Fitbit said I burned oodles of calories(lol) and best part of all, hubby likes the game! I have a feeling this’ll become a regular meet up spot with friends, coworkers, and family — and I can’t wait to return.

I’m not athletic, but I’ve got spirit. I throw like a wimpy girl, but I give it my all. I have been hearing rumblings about Fowling for a few months, so I was super excited to give Detroit’s new sport a try. And what a better environment than with a crew of Unilocalers?! The activity started out with cheap drinks and Amicci’s pizza. The Unilocal crew socialized and prepared to show our physical prowess. Fowling involves lobbing an overstuffed football across to a set up of 10 bowling pins. You throw the ball and try to hit your pins, but sometimes you give your nearby fowlers a boost by hitting their pins instead. I rocked a double-overhand throw to win the longest-running game of the night(well over 45 minutes of laughter, tenacity and frustration). My next game was done within 10 minutes. If you want a unique sporty experience, and are not worried to travel into industrial Hamtramck, give the Fowling Warehouse a try!

Another fun Unilocal event. I liked this one because of the physical activity and because of the interaction with other Unilocalers on teams. Thanks Annette, everything was great. Fowling was a blast, the pizza was good, the mystery beer was hilarious in it’s throwback badness — I got a Hamm’s — and all the Unilocalers were so nice. I’m not sure the bartender gave us our yellow wrist band discount on subsequent drinks, unless I go back and ask how much our drinks should have been, I guess I’ll never know — but that’s on them — not you. I’ve fowled 5 times now and always have fun, I highly recommend it to everyone and I always talk it up as a fun Detroit/Hamtramck activity.

I have been wanting to try this sport/game/fun for so long. I’m so glad that Unilocal finally gave me the chance to try fowling. The check in was easy, and the mystery beer was a fun touch. The atmosphere in the warehouse was electric. You can hear cheers, groans, and laughter. After the mystery beer, we enjoyed delicious pizza. I’ve never had Amicci’s pizza before. I will definitely try that again! Yummy! And thanks for ordering a just cheese. Much appreciated! After a great introduction to how to play the game and a quick tutorial about the rules, we got started. I went to this event solo. So I was excited when I walked onto the court that I easily found somebody to play with. The game itself was a lot of fun. A lot more active than I expected. Mostly, trying to avoid collateral damage :-) Thank You, Annette, for a great evening. I will definitely be back to the fowling warehouse!

Before you have your first fist full of fowling, you’ll be laughing and having a good ol’ time in the warehouse. Take a 360 turn around and you’ll see everything from a live patriotic concert stage to half a body stuck somewhere in the ceiling with legs dangling out. You’re already having fun before the fowling begins(and feeling grateful that you’re not up in the ceiling)! Next, you’ll want to get warmed up with a mystery beer which could be anything from Pabst to Badass. The bartender doesn’t even know what you’ll get but it’s beer so chances are you can’t go wrong. This particular event went beyond beer and even nourished us with Amicci’s Pizza which was delicious(especially with those little dry pepper flakes)! So all this pre-fowling fun definitely got us geared up for the game. A nice lady explained how to play since many of us were unfamiliar and then we were left to ourselves. Unilocalers had 3 consecutive lanes and HOLYHEAD — next time I want to play I’ll bring my helmet ;-) Well, not really but it is extremely helpful to have all your senses intact and fine-tuned for this activity. There were footballs going every which way, cheers, groans, high fives, etc. Having never thrown a football in my life, I found it more difficult than I had imagined but even if you can’t throw, you can still score! My football often bounced its way across the concrete floor until it encountered a bowling pin to knock over. Yeah, I know it didn’t look as good as those who have that perfectly graceful quarterback throw but I wasn’t into the ‘art of fowling’, I was into winning: D I don’t know if I would have come here on my own so I’m glad Unilocal continues to hold fun and new activities with an equally fun and spirited organizer, Annette!
