Ok. So many people only talk about the ambience or space, but it’s the food here that is what is most exceptional. The spinach and corn dip, BBQ pork pizza, and stuffed mushrooms were truly delicious with the thin crust and full flavored pizza leading the way. We also ordered the pulled pork crostini, which was decent pulled pork but could have been toasted better and had more blue cheese and caramelized onion. The beef skewers were a little cold and underwhelming, but only detracted slightly from an otherwise great meal. The wine list is also easy to use, being divided logically by wine type. This place is great!

Coda is nice place, tucked inside the Savery Renaissance Hotel. This is a little upscale spot in downtown that you might not every know about unless you were staying at the hotel or just happened to walk by! But if you are walking by and hungry or thirsty and willing to spend a little extra on a white table cloth experience, this is a nice spot! The décor is pretty modern and the art one the walls is minimalistic and beautiful. I have ate a few appetizers here and both were delightful but a little on the pricey side. They have a full bar and great beer selection but again you are paying a bit more for the atmosphere then a block away at other downtown places. This is a great spot to stop for a drink after work or pre or post show at the Civic Center, and will be a lovely spot to stop in once the new park across from the Civic Center is open! If you are looking for a great date spot this might be a good joint, as well, as the portions are small and you will look good, cause the place is fancy!

Skip this place. Their wait staff is awful. They have an attitude that they are too important to hustle or provide service. This has been the norm. Too bad as the hotel is a great place to stay.

One of the most up-scale bars in Des Moines. Probably the best way to describe it would be cozy and chic. The liquor selection is adequate but could do with some expansion.

Coda is a bar/restaurant in the Savery Renaissance in Downtown Des Moines, and apparently is one of the few restaurant options available in the evening in Downtown. When the hubby and I visited on a Friday evening, it was dead, dead, dead. When we wandered in, there were zero other customers. Zero. The interior is modern casual and is set up like a great big living room with a bar. I’d guess most of the seating options wouldn’t be good for people with limited mobility, but we were very comfortable. Our service was fast and friendly. We had a couple of their specialty cocktails, and while they were pretty tasty, they were pretty light on the alcohol for the price. The food menu is fairly limited, but the food was pretty good. I started off with the corn chowder and it was chock full of corn and was very flavorful. For our entrees, the hubby had a hamburger and I had the turkey club. His burger was probably much better than my turkey club, but we both had huge piles of really good sweet potato fries with our entrees. Food prices are incredibly reasonable, especially for hotel food.
