I wish I could give this little place a higher score. They have a great menu, but unfortunately, we were told they were out of so many things. Initially, the waitress told us they were out of salmon and steak tips. That was fine. When we went to order their wings, we were told that they were also out of bone-in wings. Ok, so we ordered the boneless– less preferable but we are flexible. My apple Gorgonzola salad had no apple on it. The«Owl Fries» that we were told were delicious(fries with green chiles, ground beef, and cheese sauce) were delivered to our table as a bowl of fries with some kind of brown dipping sauce. We were then told that they were out of the cheese sauce. We would have ordered something else had we known and to top it off, we were charged for the order of plain fries. The food we did get right was good but the experience could have easily been a better one.

Ok food if a little overpriced. Typical bar fare with a few twists. Bottled beer only, and only a couple uninspired craft beers. Service can be slow and error prone, although universally friendly. Atmosphere is above average for a bar/restaurant, with beautiful green walls filled with lots of antique photos, art, objects etc. Since this is really just about the only restaurant open for dinner in town, they have the market cornered.

This is such a lovely little restaurant tucked away in Deposit! Excellent food and excellent service — really top notch and worth getting a mile off the highway! Delicious pulled pork sandwiches and burritos — and there was a yummy cornbread with maple butter served to start off with. They had a freshly made corn chowder to die for. Overall a definite must on a road trip upstate. Skip the fast food and head straight to Koo Koose!

This place is great. My boyfriend and I were coming back from Niagara Falls and decided to visit. First off I lalalove the name and it means many owls. Which I love owls that was a coinky dink. Anywho, getting off track we had the bakers dozen of medium chicken wings and owl fries oh and the french onion soup. Dee-lish! Highly recommend stopping in for bite to eat. The atmosphere was very relaxing and inviting.

This place is phenomenal! Fantastic food, great ambience. Menu is creative and the chef knows what he’s doing. Afton has the Main Street Grill & Bakery– Deposit has Koo Koose, hidden gems in small towns. This place is worth driving from Bing, from Vestal.

Me and my husband were driving home from Canada to long island and pulled into a gas station. We asked the teenage girl if there was anywhere nearby to eat. We had no idea where we were. She told us about this restaurant. We tried to pull up the menu online but had no service. I joked how bad could it be? We pulled up in front and the snobs in us said, «do you think they have any thing gluten free?» We walked in and sat down. The sweetest waitress sat us and handed us a gourmet menu I find in upscale restaurants in nyc with gluten free and vegetarian options. The food was amazing. The staff was friendly. Lucky us we wandered in when they were having live music and got to listen to some very talented local artists sing. Our whole experience was warm and inviting. Now me and my husband joke that we are going to make the four hour drive just for dinner.

I ate here last week and enjoyed the food alot. I came back tonight and had the catfish which was perfect. My only criticism is the rice wasn’t on par with the catfish or veggies, but I ate it up anyway. Now I’m about to enjoy the apple pie, so come and try it out yourself. Very tasty. OK the apple pie wasn’t very good, but overall nice spot.

Came for dinner with a group of 7 people and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. The service was impeccable, the ambience is very nice with the restaurant charmingly decorated, and most of all the food was really impressive. The menu offers an unusually wide variety of items… everyone in our group had something different and we were all saying«yum!!» with every bite.

We have been regulars at Koo Koose Grille for over a year now. At least through the spring and summer we eat there once, sometimes twice, ok somethimes three times a week either in or taking out. And that in itself is cool. During the weekend I don’t get off the water until almost 9:00 and its great that you can order ‘real meals’ as take out in a small town. To get five stars it is not just about the food, or even the décor. It’s about the people and the spirit of the place. Steve and his attentive, friendly crew are as much the reason we frequent the K K Grille as the food. You can tell Steve is an experienced restauranteur. He has a nice mix of comfort food favorites, like unbelievable risoto, and leverages seasonal vegetables into his dishes. As the other reviewer mentioned, there are some Mexican dishes that are fabulous; better than I have had at ‘high end’ Mexican restaurants. One of my favorites is the enhalida. This can be had with beef, chicken, of vegetarian. This week there was ratatoulie on the menu so that was offered as an option– awesome. The greens and beans is a new addition and has quickly become a favorite too. My wife would suggest the Oquaga steak. Although the steak itself is perfect, she really orders it for the mushroom risotto. Lunch is as good as dinner. This includes a nice varied selection of entrée salads, hearty sandwiches, and burgers, and there is always a special something on the menu too. The décor gives homage to Deposit and Catskills history. Steve has collected several antiques and collectibles that give an authenticl local flavor. If you are into it, you will find some very interesting pieces amongst the collection. If you are in town for fly fishing, a Catskills weekend, or just passing by Deposit going from NYC to upstate– Koo Koose would be our number one suggestion for dinner every time.

I’ve been to Koo Koose Grille a few times now and have been satisfied with the food each time. The owners and the staff are friendly too. I would like a better beer list though.

Deposit is not a place where I’d expect to find good Mexican food. But here it is. The style is more Tex Mex and New Mexico than Cali, but what arrives on the plate is delicious and correct. My enchiladas were much better than expected, and my Texan buddy raved about his plate. My wife had the pasta puttanesca, and pronounced it a good example of the dish. That gives an indication of the menu — it’s varied. You have bar food like burgers and fries, Mexican items, pasta dishes, steaks, chops, a 2lb smoked turkey leg and a few more items you’d expect to find in a fancier place. That’s because a place like this must be several things at once in order to survive. It has to be a brunch joint, a bar(with live music some nights), a place to grab a casual bite and just enough elements of fine dining to satisfy out of towners and locals on a splurge. To pull this off the food has to be good, because this place is pricier than a diner. The kitchen seems to be on point. They succeed at what they call«casual mountain dining». The décor reflects this. It’s all old pictures of the town and mountain lodge. It’s rustic without being overly contrived or fake upscale. There’s good beer on tap, and a bigger wine list than I expected to see. The wine list tilts very New World, but includes a satisfying(if pedestrian) Chianti. Service was excellent, and the owners even popped by to say hello. The vibe of this place is very much on the warm and friendly side. If you’re in Deposit and looking for a good meal or a fun night out Koo Koose is probably your best bet. This is a very worthy joint. If you’re anywhere nearby and looking for good Mexican you must check this place out.
