Charming little spot in the middle of nowhere. Get this! — Homemade biscuits smothered in sausage gravy and topped with a nice runny sunny side up egg. This dish was so perfectly homey and filling on a cold snowy day that my plate was zestfully clean when I was done. Creamy, rich and perfectly peppery seasoned = country comfort! I must also mention, coffee the way it should be, dark rich fresh in a nice ceramic mug.

As always while on one of our frequent trips from Long Island to Binghamton, we consulted Unilocal to find the perfect spot for lunch. While there is always a diner, we like to find something out of the ordinary and worth continuing on for… in this case about 40 minutes. As soon as we pulled into the sleepy town of Deposit, NY and up to Butterfields, we knew that the reviews had led us to that perfect spot that we craved. Quaint and charming without being frilly, this is really a great find. It seems that everything from the thick cut, fresh baked country white bread to the biscuits and baked goods are home made by George. I enjoyed the signature pecan chicken salad studded with raisins, while they guys had eggs that were perfectly… I mean perfectly cooked sunny side up and over easy with biscuits, chicken sausage and a peppery homemade country gravy. Chrissy kept our mugs filled with delicious coffee and cream. We couldn’t resist sending our son back to college with a slice of the amazing looking apple pear pecan pie… an ample slice at that. There are resident cats who add to the charm. We walked in and felt the warmth immediately and after a great meal and nice conversation we left knowing that we would be back again.

I’ve stopped at a LOT of breakfast places between Binghamton and NYC along Route 17 — and I accidentally stumbled into what has to be the best breakfast along that route. It’s not cheap — but I wasn’t looking for cheap — I was looking for good — and this is it. Everything is home made, including the bread for the toast, with real butter, and the sausage gravy. Proper crispy home fries that tasted good. Pancakes and French toast come with real maple syrup. I think you get it. I’ll be making a regular stop when I’m in that area.

This place is great! We look forward to our long trips from Ithaca to NYC just so we can stop at Butterfields for lunch. We were so happy to have found it– finally real, high quality food during a road trip! Food is fresh and delicious, the staff is friendly, and the ambiance is bright, cheery and quaint.

I can’t believe how lucky we were to stop here! I didn’t think about opening Unilocal when we were looking for a place to stop for coffee. We ended up having lunch – a great one – and chatting with the super friendly staff. The food was excellent, reasonably priced and in good quantity. We can’t wait to stop again!

On a special trip to Nyack NY and checked Unilocal for a good place for breakfast. Well good doesn’t begin to describe this place. I would recommend that everyone come here to experience this amazing place. Staff is beyond friendly and very accommodating. Food was better than imagined and so speedy. Come to BUTTERFIELDS!!!

Love this place! We come up to deposit often and we make sure to come to Butterfields every time. All the food is farm fresh and homemade. We usually come for breakfast but lunch is great also. The apple pie is probably the best I have ever had. Not a fast food joint so come here to relax and drink great coffee and enjoy delicious food and friendly service.

We were fishing in the area and this place was recommended to us by our guide. FANTASTIC breakfast, everything was so wonderful and fresh. We had the biscuits and gravy, the omelette of the day(broccoli cheddar) and the sportmans breakfast. The portions were great and the homemade toast was amazing. Everyone ate every bite of their food. Great coffee, friendly service and a wonderful setting. We were just sad we only had time to eat here once during our trip!

Quaint gem in a picturesque setting. Charm exudes from every corner with delicious food to match. The owner has painstakingly poured love into every corner. Big city boutique aura with the good manners of the countryside. A must-partake experience.

The ambiance was sweet and hippie era reminiscent. We enjoyed the breakfast burrito, the burger, the pecan chicken salad sandwich, and poached eggs. The bread was fresh and delightful, the waiter was so friendly and the cats that were walking around were cute. :) they had a hammock too which was fun. :) I wish I would have tried the pecan French toast! I definitely want to go back!

I really wanted to give this restaurant 5 stars but I cannot. I read the reviews thought this was the place for an awesome meal. It is so cute, Mayberry throwback atmosphere. As for the food it was so so. My husband ordered the biscuits and gravy with the egg, it was soupy not properly thickened. He said it was just ok. It’s served with only 1 egg he ordered another, thought that for over 9 $ for breakfast it was overpriced. I ordered the cranberry pecan salad with chicken, the chicken was dry, probably cooked the day before and not a lot of pecans. The dressing was delicious. We were there around 11am on a Thursday. The locals from the area are very friendly. Free smells of fresh baked fill the air! Overall I would give this restaurant another chance, I know it must of been an off day, we all have them now and then.

We just had a most delightful lunch here. Everyone’s food was delicious, but the winner was the biscuits, gravy and eggs. We ordered a grilled cheese for our 2 year old, and the waitress was so thoughtful she substituted a side of fruit for the coleslaw without us even asking(which I’m sure would have been delicious too, but fruit is such a better bet for a toddler). We sat on the beautifully decorated back porch, and were able to walk around their lovely little country garden while we waited for our lunch & after eating. Yummy food, fabulous service. This place was a true gem & we look forward to returning the next time we are traveling that way!

Looking for a place to have leisurely breakfast, my sister and I found Butterfields. Owner, George, is a sweetheart of a guy… sat and visited with us a few minutes and were soon feeling like old friends. The food was fresh and delicious, the coffee was just right. We will go back as often as possible.

LOVE everything about Butterfields Café! The food is delicious. The owner and chef are so nice and passionate about the café. It is so refreshing and unexpected to visit a café like this in Deposit, NY. I will definitely be telling everyone I know about Butterfields and I hope it becomes a regular stop for them on their travels upstate. Tip: make sure to end each meal with a slice of pie that is baked fresh by the owner himself!

Looked to find a special little place on a scenario c drive and I did. George, the host, made a special point of greeting all his guests and the place is really neat and inviting. Small burning fire, neat décor, fresh baked goods and a great breakfast and burger. Will definitely make a point of returning to deposit for lunch some other time.

Amazing little gem of a place in the middle of nowhere! The place is very small with really quaint décor. The food was delicious. Fresh, yummy coffee Waffles — fluffy and delish Eggs, sausage, biscuit in gravy — there’s a reason why this is the most popular! This totaly hit the spot! Price can’t be beat either! All came to about $ 26

Phenomenal! A breakfast/brunch gem that shouldn’t be overlooked. Small café type atmosphere with back deck garden seating crafted from an old house is a perfect setting for having one of the best breakfasts you might have ever had. And the food? Amazing! Do yourself a favor and try the Pecan crème brulee French toast, it’s like«breakfast dessert» and is perfect for at least one person to get when you have two or more people so you can all have a bite of sweetness. I had the most popular item, which is the biscuits and gravy w/sunny side up egg and spicy chicken sausage. Fantastic. One other in our group had the basic bacon, eggs, and home fries, which were also excellent. For those who dwelled on price in other reviews, you’re not catching the drift here. All food products are locally grown or raised and hormone free, so free range chicken and eggs, as well as the awesome bacon are not provided to you from Sam’s Club like you’d find at a typical cheap breakfast joint. You get what you pay for, and here it’s memorable, delicious food with a warm quaint atmosphere. Perfect! 5-stars without a doubt. If you’re passing by on route 17, this is a great idea for breakfast early or late in the morning.
