I recently had a frustrating experience with a contractor and wanted to put out word so that future people can avoid the same circumstance. I hired Wright Tile to fabricate and install my granite counter top. The owner, Mike Wright, had installed a small bathroom counter for my mom and she recommended him to me. Initially he seemed very responsive and on top of things. He told me he would put in the counter on a Monday. Come that Monday I asked him when he would show up and he said later this afternoon. Then he called me back and delayed to Tuesday. When I spoke with him on Tuesday he was just barely picking up the granite from the store but said it would be in Wednesday morning. Wednesday morning I asked him when he would be over and he said around 1PM. At 2 I talked to him again and he said he would be there late afternoon. When I talked to him in the later afternoon, he said 5 or 6, and then eventually I was told it would be the next day. This was after I had taken the entire day from work to stay home and wait on him. On Thursday, the same situation repeated itself. He said morning, morning was pushed to afternoon, and then to night. He then said he would be over the next morning at 8:30AMFORSURE. I explained that we had other contractors waiting on him and that he was really causing us some disservice. The next morning at 8:45 when he hadnt shown up, I called him, he yelled at me because he was pulling into my driveway, and then hung up on me. Then he proceeded to sit outside and drink a redbull for another 20 minutes. Even more frustrating was that he(and other fabricators that I had gotten quotes from) had told me that they could do the counter top without a seam if I bought granite(it comes in large slabs) instead of quartz. Later He informed me it simply wasn’t possible and we had to put a seam in anyway. I don’t know if it truly was impossible once he started to cut the stuff, or if he never had the skill set he had claimed to have. The install eventually finished and he told my boyfriend that he would be back in the morning to seal the granite and the sink. He then texted me and told me that the job was 100% done. Guess who we never saw or heard from again? Luckily we guessed that would be the case and just sealed it ourselves. To add insult to injury, he told my boyfriend before leaving on the final day that he had an install the next day but he was planning on blowing the woman off to sell his motorcycle. This made me feel like he had just been jerking me around and blowing me off for the entire week too. That meant that I lost time from work and had no plumbing in the kitchen for a week because he didn’t do things when he said he would. It would have been very simple for him to tell me(and the lady he was blowing off the next day), hey, it’s not going to be today so that I could have gone about my life. I can only assume that the job went so well for my mom because she had a very small counter top to install in her bathroom that was less difficult and less time consuming for him. The counter is in and it looks nice, but I’m very glad the circumstance is over and hope the granite holds up well.
