Beer list features a number of local Brewers. Excellent selection! Staff was ridiculously friendly and able to provide recommendations on food and additional beers. Really cool atmosphere as well! Definitely will be returning.

Detroit style pizza… really? Not even close. Pizza was heavy on cheese and way under cooked. Nothing like Buddy’s pizza. Turns out the owner(s) aren’t from Detroit. Probably never even been to a Buddy’s pizza. Bartender was rude and off putting. Kept calling me chief. Not going back to this place.

I wanted to like this place so much. Reading the reviews here, and talking to a neighbor, I was convinced this place could become a regular spot of mine. Unfortunately, it was not to be. The staff made the experience as good as they could: they were polite, professional, prompt, caring, and seemed to be enjoying themselves. The beers were cold and tasty, which is always nice, and a requirement of mine to be pleased. But the food was just subpar at best. The deviled eggs were possibly the tiniest eggs ever: not even a bite each. $ 3 for what amounted to less than one regular egg as a whole. The pizza was alright, but just missed the mark: barely any cheese, few toppings, and was pretty much just a chunk of dough with a handful of cheese tossed on it and a half dozen pepperoni. I am confused as to why people seem to love this place. Maybe it was an off night, but I am one-and-done here.

Pretty amazing beer list and fabulous pizza pie! I really enjoyed myself here, the service was great and the ambiance was eclectic. There was some interesting artwork all over the place and the light fixtures are super neat. The pizza was delish and they warn you it takes about 20 – 15 min once ordered as it is a thick pie. That being said, one was enough for me & the hubs. I think it could’ve used some more sauce, but was still tasty. They have a super large beer list with a lot of local options. That is fun! But, the prices are a little higher than I would like. Overall, this is a solid spot and I recommend it, but wouldn’t have more than a drink or two there. It has a hipster vibe, but welcoming and friendly. Also, parking is hit or miss depending on the time you go. I guess it is pricey enough to keep out the high schoolers and to make the yuppies feel like they are in the right place. But, throw in a few featured drink specials(that are less than $ 6) and it’ll be 5 star worthy.

Zucchini sandwich had WAY too much dressing on in. It was soggy and sloppy. Overpowering. The waiter was awesome tho and he made it right.

The Detroit style pizza and sweet potato fries are wonderful! Also enjoyed the red sangria and the waffles are outstanding!

Ordered some wings and pizza on a Friday night. Arrived looking like the driver sat on it the whole way. Box was smashed and most of the cheese was stuck to the top of the box. At the least it was a careless deliveryman, at worst its a business that is not interested in repeat business. Either way I’ll be very weary of ever ordering again.

Pizza tasted just like Pizza Huts! Too cheesy and greasy, I expected more from Tom Seleck. Deviled eggs weren’t what I thought either. Cool swanky atmosphere and good beer/wine tho eh.

We had The Good Son for delivery. First, I’d like to give a shout out to their online ordering system. It’s by far one of the best that I’ve used. It was quick, easy to use and it didn’t reload the page every time you added something. That made a good impression on me, leaving me with a good user experience. We order the Dolorean, 12 wings, and two cookies. Ordered it online. The online system gave me an estimated time that the food would be at my place. Then it emailed me when they were on their way. That is flipping fantastic. Did I say I liked their online ordering system? :) The pizza was really good, the crust was crispy, and it was fresh. The wings were also really good. Those could have been a little crispier, but it could be just because they were delivered. The cookies and brownie were just eh, but really are those ever that great? The delivery guy was quick and to the point. He was also on a bike, which was more awesome. I’d totally go back to these guys and I definitely recommend.

We took a big group for dinner and it went really well. As others have mentioned, Detroit means lots of cheese and square. Don’t confuse for Chicago, this isn’t deep dish. One pizza and an app or a salad is enough for two people. I don’t think I could eat a whole pizza on my own. We ordered a bunch of different items. The chicken and waffles was a big hit, gravy and syrup. The Tom Sellec pizza was another crowd favorite– pizza with jalapenos, pineapple and bacon. Personally, I liked the pepperoni; it was the really small crispy type or pepperoni. Good cocktail and beer menu, plenty on tap. The atmosphere is nicer than your average pizza place so great for a celebration or a date.

Great wine and beer list, and the ambience is perfect for a relaxed night out with friends or watching a game. I’m in LOVE with the Detroit style pizza… It’s like the best ever cheesy bread with toppings… So, so good!

The Good Son Burger was killer, but on a late Saturday afternoon the place was nearly empty and the staff a bit… awkward. Not sure I’m in a rush to go back. The host welcomed me and the guy and said we could sit anywhere we’d like — I headed for a booth up front that of course turned out to be dirty, so we took the one next to it by the service/payment stand. Bad choice on my part. And side note: the dirty booth remained dirty throughout our time there. Our waiter was nice, but seemed nervous or distracted. Again, he was nice, but a bit awkward. I really like what they’ve done with the old«Encore» space and I’d venture back to try the Detroit-style pizza, but I’m not in any hurry.

My girlfriend and I have become regulars, so this review may be biased. Highlights: Craft Beer Selection Detroit Style Pizza Moderate Prices Good Son has become our staple for Sunday night football and other sporting events I am too cheap to pay for. Staff is knowledgable and provides perfect Michigan pizza with thick crust, exquisite burnt cheese edges, and fresh ingredients.

Lots of beers on tap, friendly prompt service. However, the key component was the pizza, and I didn’t love it. The flavor was very good, but there was far too much«boom-boom tomato sauce» for my taste. I understand the sauce is a bit thicker and more flavorful than the standard marinara, but there was just WAY too much of it. It caused the pizza to become quite soggy after a short time. I will go back to try a different kind next time. I feel that, after ordering something different, it’s likely that I’ll be able to update my review to give it another star, as I feel the Good Son has lots of potential.

Came here for brunch and loved it. Very decent Bloody Mary. Two-sided sheet of just beer options. Great pizza. My favorite was the chicken and waffles. It’s made with croissant dough instead of traditional waffle dough — so it’s this amazing fluffy waffle with creamy bacon gravy and perfectly fried chicken(just slightly crispy and not too breaded). Beautiful outdoor patio. Also a really great spot for people watching on a Sunday morning during the farmers market across the street.

I’ve been meaning to check out this place for a while now because I heard about their«Detroit style» pizza. Being from Detroit and really missing my city’s signature style, i was so excited to finally head over to The Good Son. This place really hit the nail on the head I would say. The secret to Detroit style is all in the crust, and thus was buttery and crispy perfection, much as I have grown up loving. We ordered the Tom Selleck and Detroit Rock City and both were delicious. Between the two of us girls, the two pizzas were more than enough food. I would say if you’re starving, you could eat a whole one, but it’s definitely enough to share, and at around $ 12 per pizza it was a great deal!

Went here for lunch today with the hubby and one of his co-workers and it was delicious! Couple quick things — (1) not usually a fan of thin crust pizza. Good Son has an interesting middle ground between thin and thick. It’s also served as a rectangle which is pretty unique. We ordered the Tom Sellack — so good! It was a great combination of spicy(jalapeños) and sweet(pineapple). I am a huge fan of this combo but i know it’s not for everyone. We also ordered the animal. It was good but it was a little too much meat for me. Also — if you’re thinking an app the spinach artichoke dip is super good! (2) service was awesome! Our server was rad — checked in regarding our food and drink. In addition he remembered the ranch I ordered with the pizza(always a huge plus!) (3) the timing — as their menu says the pizzas take 20 – 25 minutes(kudos for the menu disclosure — truly appreciate it!). However, with that being said, if you’re in a hurry this is not the place to go. The pizza will take awhile and is completely worth the wait but it’s not your typical in and out pizza joint. (4) location — it’s right next to the tattered cover which makes for a very interesting location. The vibe is super cool and the décor is really eclectic. It’s just a little hard to find if you don’t know what you’re looking for. Definitely a place I would visit again! Great way to have a different type of pizza!

Yum yum yum! Who knew the style of pizza I loved was called«Detroit pizza»? The greasy pizza with a crispy cheesy crust was on a thick bready dough and it was delicious. The edges were a little burnt, but I think that’s the goal. Who doesn’t love crispy cheese? We started with a spinach artichoke dip and shared a pizza. It filled the 2 of us up and didn’t cost too much either. The beer selection they have is amazing! I can’t wait to go back and sit on their nice patio.

No business seems to survive in this little corner spot of Colfax, but I truly hope The Good Son does. This is a good new restaurant. Like most people, I was asking myself…“What is Detroit-style pizza?” These 8″ pizzas are thin little rectangles, enough to serve 2 – 3 people(depending on how hungry you are). My party opted for Detroit Rock City(think supreme) and the Tom Selleck — applewood bacon, jalapeños, pineapple, chili flakes. Both were delicious. The crust is really unique — thick, but light and airy. And at $ 11 a pie, not a bad deal. Before going, I didn’t realize that this was a «taphouse.» To my surprise they have several unique beers — including a sour on tap and a hard to find Laguintas brew by bottle! It’s a modest, but great beer selection! I will say, it is an interesting«vibe» for a tap house. You’ve got some typical tap house elements — a great bar, several big screen TV’s, good beer, and high-quality«bar food,» but it’s décor does not say tap house. It’s a very eclectic, almost modern-vintage feel. It gorgeous, but feels a little upscale for a tap house. I got to watch the Blackhawks game while I ate(great TVs) but no one else dining seemed to be there for the«tap house» vibe. Overall, I really enjoyed it & will be back!

I have been going to this location for years — from Encore to Udis and Silvis. The latest incarnation has darkened the room, hidden the kitchen, and highlighted the bar. We went on a Thursday and had the chicken wings(Ok) steak sandwich(good) and steak blue plate special(great). And two gin martinis(potent) They have«Detroit style pizza» which we did not try: I have no idea what Detroit style pizza is and what inspired them to use this as a distinguishing characteristic. I’m sure I’ll try it sooner or later Service was OK — kind of slow — had to ask for water — but it looks like they are still getting their rhythm as they have only been open for a few weeks. We live so close to this location that we will be back — and look forward to the summer when the huge patio is open.
