This was a great punk rock dive bar. It had kind of an evel knevil meets hot rod culture vibe with a great jukebox of punk, metal, hardcore and garage rock. PBR on tap and a friendly staff. I hear it’s called One Eyed Jack’s now. Haven’t been, but if it’s anything like Continental Club, it’ll be good. I saw Truckasaurus do a Dead Kennedys coverset there and it was rad.

CLOSED — now One Eyed Jack’s — Now I feel at home. Reminds me of some of the punk dirt bars/music joints in Austin I so loved. It can be pretty dead on the weekdays. Weekend is jumpin. VERY tiny space — when there are bands, no option for anything else. Cheap cheap drinks. Cool bartenders. LONESTAR bottles. Chicks with tats. Killer jukebox. 2 pool tables. Outdoor patio.

With a name like The Continental Club I was expecting something out of a Christopher Walken Saturday Night Live scene. Champag-nuh and a little French mustache. However, the actual Continental Club couldn’t have been much farther from my expectation in any way, shape or form. The building itself is a squat, square room made of concrete. There’s a hodge-podge of seating scattered throughout the bar like a five-year old giant just left their dollhouse-bar after an exciting afternoon of play — stools at the bar, hightops all around, put a booth right in the middle of it all, throw in 2 pool tables, a couple of video game machines and a jukebox and call it a day. Nothing is exactly laid out for you. As a matter of fact, I’m still not sure I was using the correct sex bathroom. I mean there were men in the one I used and urinals in the other so it was hard to decipher. This is a place that you don’t have to get dressed up to go to. It definitely looks like a dive, but there wasn’t any residential alcoholics when I was there last so I’m reluctant to call it that. But, the prices were cheap and the bartenders friendly and so I’d go back if I ever found myself stumbling through the neighborhood. With or without Mr. Walken.

It was all Rockabilly on the 4th of July. A few cool cars, cool get-ups and well, I wasn’t cool enough.

My first patronage to this bar was very early on in the evening as I was meeting up with a few people to meet and go over some business and it was a Thursday, so the bar was pretty empty at first. But as the night wore on, more and more people started showing up to make the bar feel more comfortable. I guess this is a new bar, taking the place of the Santa Fe Tavern and it is simplistic in design. Cement floors, painted walls and just enough seating for larger parties that want to take a load off while sipping on PBR or Jäger. The bartender, Dumptruck, has a voice like Wolfman Jack and serves up pretty tasty concoctions if you ask him to surprise you. I’ve heard tell that this bar has one of the best stocked jukeboxes in Denver, but I couldn’t say as it wasn’t playing for most of the time I was there due to some sports playing on the TV. Overall I liked the place, with one exception: The people with a cooler full of burritos coming up to my table every 10 minutes asking if we wanted a burrito. I didn’t want one 10 minutes ago when I told you I was full. I don’t want one now. Now leave me to my PBR.
