We went with friends who had recommended it and I was skeptical from reading the previous comments. Upon arrival we were presented with a menu that had NO tapas items. We had to ask for the tapas menu(both should be provided especially if you selling yourself as a Tapas restaurant). Between the 4 of us we ordered 8 Tapas plates. All were tasty and flavorful especially the herring, the chorizo, the omelette skillet with ham and cheese. We had 2 shrimp plates, both were very tasty. We arrived at happy hour which was until 7 pm on Sundays which assisted in our bill price. Great value, order the TAPAS from the TAPAS menu.

Yikes, if you’ve ever had authentic Spanish Tapas, stay away from Tapas De Espana. Not sure what you would call the food served here, but Tapas would not come to mind. Beyond the food being truly horrible, the service is really bad. Our waiter came out with one of our dishes, went back into the restaurant for what we thought was another one of our dishes, and never returned. It took about 20 minutes before we found out that he had left for the night. Needless to say, a tip was not included when we paid. And as others have pointed out, the place is a dump.

The location of Tapas de Espana is a little off-putting. The restaurant is in a dodgy looking old building that is separated from the rest of the Jefferson Park area restaurants and surrounded by some empty lots. The inside is really no better — run down, and combined with a Mexican restaurant. The service is friendly, but kind of slow. My husband and I enjoyed the food though, and the price is great if you’re on a budget. The tapas are not out of this world, but we found them to be flavorful, and they have a good variety. I recommend going for the pimientos rellenos, or the 3×4 sampler. Also, do NOT order any of their large drinks unless you mean business!

Waited 50 min just to get order in on Monday night! Food was OK, Paella was bland, worst I’ve had.

Agree with the other groupon posters. We got olives instead of bread and the sangria was about par. The groupon specified two paella dishes but since we both ordered the same type, the combined it on one tray. We weren’t sure if we were getting the same amount if we had gotten two plates. The hot tapas we ordered(16a, I can’t remember the name) was tastier than the paella. The crawfish in the paella were not cracked open so they were hard to eat and didn’t take on any of the flavora in the dish. We also got 3 mussels in the whole dish. No broth to speak of and the veggies in the dish were clearly frozen. Good that we used the groupon, as this would have been one star had it been full price.

Went to this restaurant with a Groupon for two for paella and hot tapas. We were seating in the back area, rather cold and deserted feeling. The bread served was not remarkable. The deal include a liter of sangria, this tasted a lot like Hawaiian Punch. The paella had sausage, clams, mussels, calamari and pork. It was not the best paella I ever had. The hot tapas dish we ordered, with garbanzo beans and beef in a red chili was tastier than the paella. In the cold dining room the paella did not stay warm long. Service was attentive and good. I was glad we did not pay full price, it would not have been worth it.

I didn’t even know this place existed until a friend took me there for lunch. We had some tapas and beer! Surprisingly, this place was not half bad. We had the Croquets Cocido O Jamon Serrano, Patatas Bravas, Gambas Al ajillo, esparagus and Chorizo A la Sidra. Everything was simply amazing and very filling. The staff is okay. This place actually is two restaurants in one(mexican food or tapas). Which was not a bad idea. I will say its okay for groups but its very small place so no groups bigger than 9 otherwise there will not be many tables left for others. Don’t be shocked that it looks like a shack on the outside but on the inside this place is not half bad!

Had tapas and drinks here the other night. The tapas were great, I had the croquettes and the Serrano ham. The portion size was great and price not bad. I do have to agree with the other reviewer about the Sangria, though. It tasted like a powder mix or something, and I doubt if there was any actual wine in it.

Some friends and I stopped in here after visiting the Denver Aquarium. I think they may have made a few small improvements since the last review, but they have gone down hill in some other important areas. The food was ok. It wasn’t a magnificent meal by any means. I was super hungry for a lot of food so I didn’t order any tapas. I got a giant burrito that was pretty standard. The biggest problem was getting anything ordered and getting the bill. It was a two hour lunch that should have taken an hour. Maybe its because we were on the patio… anyway.

I love Spanish tapas and was excited to try Tapas de Espana after passing it exiting I-25 a few times.(It sits right across from the Denver Aquarium.) In case you don’t want to read any further, I wouldn’t recommend eating here if you can possible avoid it. If you want to know why, read on… While I knew that Tapas de Espana has some sort of strange restaurant in a restaurant thing going on with El Señor Sol, the first sign that things weren’t going to go that well for us was the incredibly stale tortilla chips that we set on our table along with some funky tasting bread and an even funkier tasting dipping sauce. Despite all signs to retreat and find another dinner spot, we decided to move forward to ordering some tapas and give the place a chance. After all, the service seemed good and our waiter was happy to point out the best dishes on the menu. As we waited for our food, our pitcher of sangria arrived and tasted like a mixture of Mad Dog and Kool-Aid. The sangria wouldn’t have been bad at a frat party in college, but definitely wasn’t on par with some of Denver’s other sangria offerings. By the time our tapas arrived to the table, our expectations were low and the food managed to lower them even farther. In all fairness, the tortilla espanola(Spanish omelet) wasn’t bad, but the rest of the tapas(patatas bravas, calamari, and garlic shrimp) were virtually inedible. They were overly oily, the ingredients didn’t seem fresh, and they didn’t look or taste like any tapas that I have ever eaten.(And I assure you, between trips to Spain and a love for tapas, I have eaten more than my fair share of tapas.) Bottom line: No matter how much you love tapas, I think it is unlikely that you will find what you are looking for here. Denver has other tapas options and I would suggest you head there.
