This place smells strongly of cigarettes because of the smoke shop next door. I ordered the $ 13 chef special roll & was warned by the waitress that the mackerel in the roll is «natural fishy.» The female sushi chef here stared off at the Chinese show on the TV like a zombie. I haven’t seen her take her eyes off the screen for 15 minutes now & it looks like she’s peeling shrimp or something without looking. There are tons of spelling errors(I caught 4 in the brief half minute I read the wall). The wall has lots of menu items listed that I didn’t see on the lunch menu. The sushi came with a side of rice vinegar sauce with some sesame seeds and spices in it. I didn’t care for it too much because it tasted like straight up rice vinegar. The sushi rolls were expensive for how few rolls there were(6 in each). The mackerel was indeed a little fishy but I thought it was really tasty. It wasn’t overly fishy. The fried sushi roll I tried had a thin outer shell that was fried. I enjoyed the sushi but it wasn’t the best I’ve ever had. The fish did taste pretty fresh to me and the rice wasn’t overly sticky nor dry.

Dark, stuffy, and smoky. Words that usually don’t go hand in hand with Japanese restaurants. But that’s what Sushi Tokoro was upon first entry. Maybe I’m just used to the usual clean and fresh feeling I get walking into a sushi joint. Total opposite here. My first breath invited warm cigarette smoke straight down my lungs. Usually something like that would have caused me to immediately walk out, but I was by myself and didn’t want to be awkward, so I toughed it out. I was kind of surprised to find that this place is pretty much just straight up sushi. Usually Japanese restaurants at least offer the generic bento boxes and teriyakis and ramens, but nothing like that at all here. Just straight nigiri, temaki, and a few basic rolls. I actually like that they keep their menu simple and clean. Why overload it with stuff barely anyone is gonna order? Stick to what you make best right? Their sushi was pretty decent though all things considered. I’ve got to lower my expectations in terms of freshness, especially with me being from California. So for Denver’s sake, Sushi Tokoro had some pretty solid fare. I had their Saba nigiri(mackerel) and their Rainbow roll, which is a mashup of a bunch of different fish, hence the name rainbow. Both were pretty solid to be honest. The Saba nigiri was only slightly fishy, and it definitely had lots of that salty flavor going on that I love. The Rainbow roll was a little smaller than expected but at least it tasted normal. Definitely dishes that I would order again. In all, Sushi Tokoro is a spot that I can see myself going to again and again if I want some decent sushi. Nothing fancy at all about it, no bells and whistles here. But sometimes that’s exactly what I’m looking for in a restaurant.

The worst sushi I’ve tried in my life, where is the fish on and in it? There’s a king sooper close to there, pick up your sushi in there maybe could be better.

This is a small, family run business that does sushi extremely well. Their small restaurant is located in a strip mall in Thornton next to a dive bar. Do not let this deter you. Every seat in their place gives you a view to watch your sushi being made. And let’s face it, we all love watching crime shows too. My wife and I ordered soup, dumplings, edamame, and 6 sushi rolls at 7:30 on a Friday night. Despite their sign warning that they were short staffed, our food was out with no delay. Very surprisingly, it is the best sushi we have had in Denver. This includes many fancier downtown places. Miso soup was great as well. We will be back over and over. They make some great sushi.

I happened to drive past this establishment en route to another business in the same shopping complex. Not having had sushi in awhile, I thought I’d stop in. I was truly hoping for a bento box along with my sushi. I failed this part of my conquest. The menu is fairly limited and consists primarily of sushi rolls. The appetizers that are available seemed to be of the cold variety. No gyoza or anything similar was available. For alcohol enthusiasts, there’s a decent selection of sake to order. It appeared most bottles were in the $ 15 range. I ordered a bowl of miso soup, an order of whitefish(the type that’s not rolled) and a spicy California roll. They did have a special of chicken curry katsu available along with tempura fish and chips. The miso soup tastes very fresh and had a good amount of flavor to it without being overly salty. The sushi rice had that nice balance of vinegar with just a tiny hint of sweetness. The whitefish tasted reasonably fresh. However, the spicy California roll was disappointing. It was made spicy by coating the exterior of the roll with a spicy powder. Upon further reflection, I think it was Old Bay, which isn’t something I would expect to see at an Asian restaurant. This detracted from the flavor of the sushi rice and was overpowering. The spice did not have any distinguishable flavor to it either. The older couple running the place were reasonably polite but they inquired about the pronunciation of my last name which I think is inappropriate. They also wanted to see my drivers license for a $ 12 debit card transaction. Keep that in mind if you order using a card.

I went in for lunch today to try this place out. I was in the only one there and the service was SO bad and slow. It took 20 minutes for one roll. It wasn’t even a hard order. The food was okay… small portions. I definitely left still a little hungry. I’m surprise this place is still open?! Horrible.

I love this place. I cannot say that with enough passion. My husband and I make a point to stop in at least once a month. I absolutely crave their food. They’re friendly, amazing and always have the best crime shows on their TVs. It’s always a pleasure to eat here. The one minor downside is they have the poor luck to be located next to a dive bar. The smoke from that place reeks and upon exiting, one must watch for the drunk rabble. But don’t care. Worth it.

Im not saying its the worst sushi, but definitely least of all the places ive been to, which is around a dozen sushi places. The rainbow had 3 different fish and were small fish portions and looked bland. They are stingy with the fish portions. I’ve The fish tasted old or Something. The staff is friendly, but the quality and quantity of food is not good. Definitely never going back again. I dont know how ppl wrote such good reports about it.

Not only did we have to wait nearly an hour for our food but, when it finally arrived, it was lacking flavor. When it comes to sushi, there are many places to choose from; do yourself a favor and find one that, at the very least, is not as filthy and understaffed as this place.

it’s a cute little hole in the wall with mom and pop. Stopped here for a snack on Saturday afternoon when there was only one other family placing their orders. As I’m not a real fan of raw fish, we ordered fried items — fried zucchini sticks, a soft shell crab roll, and inari. All very delicious. The food is prepared all in view, that was entertaining. I saw posted on the wall that they serve fish and chips that i would like to try when i return. The services was very friendly. Not sure if this was pricey or maybe i’m thinking cheap — 27.00 for two persons with non alcoholic beverages.

Awesome little mom and pop shop. Nothing fancy, but if you want good, fresh sushi close to home this place is for you. Who knew strip malls had really good food. Def a diamond in the rough.

We are sushi snobs so to speak. So we were skeptical at his place. But the service was outstanding and the surprise free dessert was a winner. Sashimi was fresh and artfully prepared. We will visit again.

Dont let the location fool you. This place is delicious. if you want authentic, fresh sushi this is the place. This is a family run restaurant and they always make you feel welcome and are very friendly. He went to school to learn the art of sushi for years. The quality is awesome and the thick cuts are delicious. Highly recommend!

I don’t do this often… but I have to be brutally honest. My sister and I walked into Sushi Tokoro for dinner. We walked in and the smell was foul. We decided to still try it. We asked to sit at the sushi bar. When I looked at the surroundings it was dingy. Dirty dishes all over the kitchen. The case of fish had one slab of fish laying in the middle that looked like it was weeks old. They had menu’s sitting as place mats. Before even sitting I lifted up my menu only to smell mildew from a «Cleaning» rag. I looked at my sister and said absolutely not… We literally got up and walked out of the restaurant before the server brought even a water. It was the most filthy restaurant I have ever been in, in my life.
