Great food, recommend the chicken pesto flat bread with either tots or salad the tots are amazing and soup is great depending on how your tastes correlate to their daily soup. Their beer selection is amazing and many of theirs are from their own renegade brewery. I would highly suggest their elevation triple IPA, redacted wheat IPA and their daily specials are 3 $ and are always good. Staff is very nice and will let you try multiple beers before making your selection which is nice considering their beer prices are slightly high. Jessica is a great bar tender who helped me find the beers that I wanted. She helped me through the beers that they had and helped me to limit my selection before trying the ones that she laid out for me. I loved each and bought a glass of each.

Mixed experiences, but overall my wife and I love the place. Beer is great, atmosphere is great. Food is good, if a little overpriced. Most of the staff is great. Knowledgeable and good conversation. Only complaint was one Saturday night my wife and I stopped in and the bartender and waitress only seemed interested in talking to each other and their mutual friend who came in to talk with them. The fact that they were the loudest people in the place and were swearing up a storm was annoying. I was in the Navy and the language was nothing new to me, but it wasn’t the time and this does not seem like it wants to be that type of place.

Good grief, if I were attending DU I’d be failing and in terrible credit card debt. Probably hung over too. Why? Because the Renegade Publik House is too awesome. Met a friend here for Friday post-work beers. The tap list isn’t going to rival Falling Rock, but it’s pretty darn extensive and has great diversity, including house(Renegade) and non-house beers. I had numerous beers I have not had before, and that’s quite a task. This included the beer of the day, which was the Renegade Imperial Sunday Morning for $ 3 — a steal! Our bartender was also fantastic, keeping up with our pace and chatting us up when he had the chance. He also gave us a free bottle of Sunday Morning because there was a deal posted on Facebook for it, despite the post being partially incorrect. That got fixed, and he still honored the deal for us. We didn’t have much food, but what we did have was delicious. The warm brie app in balsamic vinegar is a must. I look forward to trying their pizza the next time I’m in. Chill place with all the right stuff. Can’t believe the place was so empty on a Friday afternoon. I look forward to coming back.

Staff is decent. Lots of young people given that it is right next to the University of Denver. The beer is delicious, and very reasonably priced for such delicious micro brews. It’s a chill atmosphere(not your typical bar scene) that is good for catching up with a friend or grabbing an early drink with a group of people. The only thing I would avoid is the food. For its quality(or lack thereof), the food is incredibly overpriced. Generally, this place is OK… I find the hipster nature of it to be pretty annoying(it’s a cash only restaurant and they stuff their menus inside of different novels). If you’re close to DU and are looking for a good beer, this place could be okay… there are many better places in this same area — I’d skip over this one in a heartbeat.

Interesting beer selections, decent service, and a chill atmosphere. The food is hit or miss, but most of the time good(their warm brie and jam is a great snack! However, they always undercook their brussels sprouts and asparagus). The problem: As of recent, THEYDON’T TAKECREDITCARDS and they don’t do such a great job at informing their patrons. They have it in the tiniest print on the very bottom of their menu, and I have observed them not verbally informing patrons until after they receive their bill and attempt to pay with credit card. They do have an ATM in store, but prepare to pay a fee to get your cash. I was lucky enough to have a checkbook in my purse, but I don’t plan to return due to the lack of convenience in paying.

This is a super tiny restaurant/bar. If you want to stand and mingle, you stand right by the door and block everyone’s entrance. If you want to sit, don’t come with more than 4 people, there isn’t room for more. Oh, and they are cash or check only. SERIOUSLY. Who does that anymore? And to use the excuse for card fees is ridiculous, the amount you would receive in payments would make the credit card fees worth the effort.

I’m torn on this one. I really enjoyed the beer options and the food looked good. We also had great service. But, and this a big but, they only take cash and failed to mention that until our bill came. Therefore, we had to pay their ATM fee. So, everything seems a bit sketchy to me and I don’t think I’d go back just for the fact that it’s a bit deceiving, I think, to not post signs or tell your customers you only take cash. What if I didn’t have an ATM card on me?

I’m not sure if I like this place or if it’s just A-OK. I’ve been here twice, both when DU was not in school, otherwise I’d probably steer clear. My first visit was with 2 friends on a Saturday night, it was pretty busy lots of people. We sat at the bar and the bartender recommended a few of his favorites. The beer is good here, lot of choices that you’ll find at most tap houses and then some. 2 complaints, another night we came they told us it was cash only. Boo. And they don’t take AMEX. Other than that, I’d head here for a great night with friends to enjoy craft beer.

Oh god, I’m in love. I’m sending them flowers. My heart flutters at the mere memory of visiting the Publik House. My one complaint I’ll get out of the way early — they don’t have any TVs, no sports watching. But their environment and atmosphere are most decidedly not sports-oriented, so it makes sense. I’m still a whiner, though. The space is small, dark, romantic. Perfect for a man-date with my cousin after a hockey game? Sure, why not. The server was friendly, quick, and brought us menus and beer lists tucked inside of an old used book. An old used book! Oh Publik House, you’ve immediately stumbled upon one of the four ways to my heart: books. Their beer list is extensive, and unique. They don’t just feature their own beers, but some great collabs and hard-to-find tasty suds from around the region. You’ll definitely be able to try something you’ve never had before; thus the second of four ways to get to my heart: new beers. With a fantastic looking menu, I decided to venture down a less-traveled path to create my own flatbread pizza. Starting with the base of crust(obvs, yo) a side of marinara and mozz, I added in the following heavenly ingredients which were undoubtedly made from real, fresh angels: garlic confit, carmelized onions, goat cheese, pancetta and pork belly. It was… unbelievable. Un. Believe. Able. Or however you’d like to break that down. And thus the third of four ways to get to my heart: pork products and/or pizza. Overall just a really fantastic experience and I cannot wait to go back. It’s noisy, it can get a little rowdy, it’s busy and crowded, but the food is tremendous and the beer list is second to none. Oh, and they brought the checks in old books too. I just find that so great! And while the server was definitely an attractive bearded gent, I regret to inform you that I don’t swing that way and thus the fourth and final way to my heart remained unsated on that particular evening. But holy pizza and beer, Publik House for the win!

Been here twice in a week so that should say something. It’s a well welcomed change in food from the pub style or Mexican types you find around DU. Their beer selection is great and so far the staff has been really knowledgeable about it. The service has been amazing so far. The food is what brought us back here. This is a foodie on a budget’s dream. The Goldeneye flatbread was amazing. Prosciutto, grilled zucchini, grilled asparagus, parmesan, topped with truffle oil and a sunny side up egg. The portion is large enough to split, if you’re not super hungry. But with ingredients like pork belly, truffle oil, and garlic confit all over their menu I suggest getting a couple things and sharing with friends. They have a great lunch deal with a nice variety of flatbread sandwiches all under $ 7. Although I haven’t tried it yet, I hear their P.B.L.T(pork belly, lettuce, tomato) is awesome. And during lunch draft beer is $ 2 off, so most come out to around $ 3-$ 4.

Went with a group of 4 to use a Groupon deal we had. I had been wanting to come here since before it opened, so I was very excited to finally try it out! Well, I have to say that although we had an okay experience, Renegade Publik House leaves a lot to be desired. There is a sign-in sheet for seating… what?! That’s right, you write your name and party size and then shut your eyes real tight, cross your fingers, and hope and pray that someone checks the list and realizes you need a table(because there is no host/ess). After 20 minutes or so, I finally asked the bartender what the deal with the seating was, since there were multiple open tables. Then, because I could, I played the pregnancy card and said«Sorry to be pushy, I just need to eat NOW.» Not sure if that did the trick, or what, but we were seated less than 5 minutes later. The Groupon was pretty much a let-down — they gave you only certain appetizers to choose from(and you chose 2 for 4 people), and then the rest of the deal(2 pizzas) was a total dollar amount — something like $ 38 to spend on said two pizzas. Which was especially confusing because there were not 2 pizza options that even totaled $ 38. Curious. Not one to waste one ounce of value, one couple in the party chose a pre-fab option, and then the hubs and I put together a custom pizza that would use up every last dollar — tah-dah! Problem solved. On to the actual food. For appetizers, we ordered the house salad with orange apricot vinaigrette and the brie with fig jam. The salad was pretty tasty, and the brie was your pretty average baked brie with jam. I seem to remember the crackers inexplicably breaking with even the lightest of touches… so it would have been nice to have a sturdier cracker. For the pizzas, we ordered the black and blue flatbread, and then our custom flatbread had prosciutto, figs, roasted red peppers, onions, basil, ricotta. The back and blue was honestly not that tasty — in fact, several pieces of the steak were charred(and not in the tasty char way — more like the burned way). The custom pizza, however… holy moly!!! They should add this to their menu. It was sooooo good. All 4 of us agreed that it was the best thing we ate all nice. We thought about ordering something else, because honestly those flatbreads are NOT as big as previous Unilocalers would lead you to believe. Maybe I just had a healthy appetite(though I think it’s pretty average), but one flatbread will likely NOT be enough for 2 average people to share, unless you also order 1 – 2 more dishes. Which brings me to cost… yikes. Considering the size of these dishes(and quality: I’m looking at you, black and blue flatbread), it was VERY expensive. If you missed my earlier comment about our 2 pizzas/flatbreads having to add up to no more than $ 38… you’ll understand that the 2 flatbreads we got added up to $ 38. And it was a far cry from being enough food for 4 people. As you would expect, the beer list is pretty nice — not the best I’ve ever seen, but had some nice variety. And the beer prices seemed pretty decent too. If we were ever to return, it would probably just be for a beer — and only if we were already in the neighborhood. I won’t go out of my way to come back.

Cool ties, beer, books, and shirts abide here. Renegade Publik House is simply cool. They have an identity that permeates their restaurant atmosphere. Let’s talk about parking first. If you’re like my friend, you might get lucky and score rockstar parking. Otherwise, try Asbury and S York. I was here because I like Renegade Brewing and I had a really cool Groupon — 2 draft beers, 1 shared plate, 1 flatbread pizza for $ 15. It’s a smoking deal and you’ll wish you had one. It’s for dine-in only, so you’ll have to write your name down on the book immediately upon walking in. 6pm today was a quiet time, so we had no problem. Menus are handed inside well regarded paperback books like«The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn» or «Of Love and Other Demons.» As I waited for my friend, I began to get into my Gabriel García Márquez book. The server almost let me keep it, but the manager said no. Next time, I might bring a book to trade. Perhaps that will work. They have a small draft selection, but more bottles and small pours available. They even had some Brew Dog. The Redacted Rye was our drink of choice. They also had a specific Groupon menu. Basically, it detailed what they offered: 2 drafts(hand gesture included the entire list) valued up to $ 14, 1 shared plate valued at $ 4, and 1 flatbread valued at $ 16. Most drafts totaled $ 5, half the shared plates were more than $ 4, and all flatbreads were less than $ 16 though you could purchase additional proteins. All in all, it was very well explained and we could always pay the difference. Great, easy. We started the Slaughterhouse 5 with an added sunny side up egg. We wanted a good animal representation on the pizza. The sauce was standout, my friend raved over the meatballs, and the egg was a winning addition. Also, they make their own crushed pepper flakes. They recommend taking it easy and ramping up. I agree. The two shared plates came later. We attempted to order the Chef’s board, but that wasn’t included, so we choose the Bacon Wrapped Boomers(wrapped around portobella mushroom and goat cheese) and Warm Brie with Figs and crackers. The bacon was juicy and the goat cheese particularly long lasting flavor(a plus). The brie was nice, though I could have used more fig jam. Also, my dairy allergies soon kicked in and this typically only happens with certain cheese quality. Overall, I really enjoyed this public house. There’s a lot of great individualism featured through the beer selections, waitstaff’s dress code down to the Strongbad patch, and books. They are a one of a kind experience here in Denver. As they say in the UK, ‘Cheers, Renegade!”

Huge beer selection, good food. Hipsters welcome to DU for a bar with no tvs, outcast books to read with every menu, craft beer and crazy dark lighting I’m not going to lie, I was skeptical. I like Renegade’s beer but that stretch on University has a curse on it; no business is ever there more than a year. The parking sucks and I don’t want to go to a place that is trying to cater to college students. Maybe because its summer, but the crowd was anything but college students. There were families and most people were late 20’s up. The small dining room was packed and there was a decent number of people at the bar on a Thursday evening. If you assume the beer selection is going to be mostly Renegade, have no fear. Sure they have their brews highlighted and even serve one you can’t get in the tasting room(9th and Santa Fe), but they also have a ton of other options. Check out their website to see pictures of many the dishes to help you make up your mind. Of course we opted for the«flatbread»(its ok to call it pizza) but there were salad options and small plates as well. For the table we ordered the warm brie with figs on crackers, didn’t see that coming from a pizza place did you? So good and a decent size portion to share. I’d recommend one app and a pizza for two people(I don’t think anyone finished a whole one on their own). I ordered the Slaughter House 5(oh yeah, its a controversial/banned book theme) with 5 different kinds of meat. I love meat, I love lots of meat but frankly the meat portions were overwhelming on the pizza and hard to do without a knife and fork. They could have put half the meat on there and I would have been able to get the flavor better. The most popular option at our table was the Farenheit 451(Grilled marinated chicken, gorgonzola, grilled red onion, jalapeño, celery, cilantro, hot sauce, buttermilk ranch). All and all I was surprised by the crowd, get there early for a table, and the quality of the food. We will be back!

First, and foremost — we went here because I heard they had a Rye IPA on tap. Um. Yes. They do. And even though I only drank two, please don’t take that to be a commentary on the quality, only my ability to be responsible. Because that –Redacted– Rye IPA was, and is, excellent. Ok. Here’s the situation. My parents went away on a week’s vacation… wait, wrong story. My grad school BFF and I finished our final edits on our theses about all sorts of academic topics that were high minded and fancy. PLUS — she went and get herself a fiancé. LOTSTOCELEBRATE. But you know how sometimes you wanna celebrate without all the woohoo girls and the white hat frat jerks? And if you’re on University between Evans and I-25, it’s like, totally impossible? HEREISYOURPLACE. This sounds like a really sardonic review, but in reality here is the lowdown: 1. Kinda loud, because of all the hard edges and surfaces, and it’s small, but the benefit is that it’s mostly conversation from people really passionate about things. 2. The music isn’t stupid, obnoxious, loud, etc. 3. They love books. Specifically, all the books in the place are books that have been banned, burned, or otherwise represent hegemonic oppression that belies the institution of free speech, independence, and liberal thought. 4. CHEESEPLATE. Seriously, I asked Jeff, our waiter, WHERE they found the fantastic brie, and the darling man brought me the label off the cheese. *love* We each had 2 beers, we had a cheese plate, the cheese bread, and a flatbread. The staff and service was impeccable, charming, funny, and when they realized we were celebrating thesis completion AND an engagement, they comped us a fantastic chocolate and coffee concoction. GOHEREIF: You were ironic before it was cool STAYAWAYIF: You think Michael Vick should get another dog

Okay. This is a very mixed review, so we start with the good. Publik House has THE best gluten free pizza I’ve ever had. Their crust is to die for – offered at a five dollar upcharge, it had better be the best GF pizza in the whole damn land. We got the green chili pizza, and while the egg over easy plopped on top is a little menacing at first, add a little pork belly and green chili – it’s a tasty flavor combo. The beer menu is huge. Of course, Renegade’s beers are featured in red, but they also carry some other truly amazing beers from fantastic breweries – a fine deal, indeed. We also ordered some appetizers! This is where it started to get iffy. We got the bacon wrapped boomers, which sounded p-retty damn tasty. Bacon wrapped around portobello and cream cheese, I believe. We also ordered the cheese plate! And boy howdy, do I love a cheese plate. But here’s the thing. The boomers were too few – only two very small ones existed on the plate. There was palpable disappointment across the table. The cheese plate was good, but waaaay too heavy on the blue cheese. A 3″ block of blue, compared to 1.5″ blocks of the others. All tasty, and the sauces that accompanied them were delicious as well. The mood lighting, at least when we were there, was waaay too dim. I’m all about getting the lights down low, but each of us had to bust out the flashlight feature on our phones to even read the menu. That part was kind of embarrassing – we’re not oldie moldies! But what are you going to do? The staff didn’t seem to notice/turn the lights up, so I didn’t mind busting out the light again to scan the beer menu for round two. Our server was pretty awesome. She knew her stuff, was on it with her knowledge of both the beer and food menu, and was very attentive. She gets 5 stars. I want to come back later once this place has found its sea legs a bit. It’s fairly pricey for what you get for some dishes, but more reasonable seeming for others. Maybe there’s some extra spendy ingredient in some dishes that jacks the price up. So, for now, solid 3 stars. Great beer, good food, fantastic service… Weird ambience, unpredictable price-points.

I’ve been driving past this place regularly since it’s opened, always commenting that I need to stop in. I’ve had the Renegade beers in the past, and was happy that there’s now a good tap house closer to my neighborhood. The other day I saw a Groupon which gave me the perfect excuse, so when my partner in crime Lacey M wanted to go to dinner, BOOM! Handled. We came in about 7:30 and sat at the bar. There were only a few patrons at that time but the place filled up pretty quickly. Lacey started with the Ska, a Mexican style beer, and I had the Scarlett Letter Red Ale(8.5% — so BIGSMILE). The Ska was surprisingly tasty, lacking in that poor quality flavor that many Mexican themed beers tend to have. The red was delicious. Upon the bartenders suggestion, we chose the zucchini salad to start with. Julienned zucchini strips with almonds, truffle oil, and black pepper. We were both highly impressed. We chose the Steak and Bleu, opting out of the onions and adding pork belly. The latter meat was pretty much perfect, the steak was tender and the balsamic drizzled over it was a very nice flavor addition. I love grilled pizza, the only real issue was the size. Both the pizza and the starter were pretty small, and I wasn’t really filled up by the meals end. Menus and checks are presented in banned books, which is an awesome touch. Their menu offers some very unique and tasty looking options, and the bartender(Kevin???) was extremely friendly and helpful. Downsides: The joint, like the portions, is small in size and rather cramped once people start filing in. It’s on University right at the DU campus, so parking is an issue. And as I mentioned, portion size is too small. The Groupon offer for dinner for two could have been bigger. Overall it’s a great spot and I’ll be back for sure. Cheers!

Pizza-n-beer, kinda. But better, edgier, and more delicious. Yep. We went here for dinner on a Wednesday evening and there were 5 in our party. The hostess greeted us immediately as we stepped in the door and seated us right away. Lizzie was our server and she was appropriately attentive and knowledgeable. Drinkwise I had the Renegade Scarlett Letter(only available at the Publik House) which was dee-effing-licious, and the Ska Minthe Stout; equally satisfactory. We began with the cheese plate and the asparagus — prosciutto appetizers. I cannot recall the exact cheeses or meats, but they were all very good. As an added plus, all meets and cheeses were from local and/or small, family-owned businesses. The table split several flatbreads, as they are the backbone of the menu. We had the Goldeneye, the Fahrenheit, and the Bleu Cheese and Steak flatbreads. All were quite tasty, but the Goldeneye was definitely my favorite. Everyone was pleased with the food, the drinks, and the service. Lastly, we had a few spirits and a ice cream and caramel plate for dessert. Holy shit. This is where things get very serious, people. It’s been a few weeks since we were there, so I cannot recall the spirit makers, but we tried a smoky gin and a couple unique whiskeys that were out of this world. The ice cream is hazelnut and is brewed by Denver’s own Sweet Action solely for the Publik House. It is paired with a piece of caramel(the size of a brownie) and I do not have words for how effing amazing it was. F yes. We’ll be back.

Renegade Publik House has only been open for a little over a week when I visited. It was decently busy for a Tuesday evening at 6pm but we still got sat right away for a party of 6. When you walk in, it has the right sense of comfort and class. Dark warm colors and just the right amount of lighting for enjoying a good beer and some pizza. You wouldn’t have know this place had just opened with the great service we experienced. Our server not only knew her beer but was excited to explain every beer we quizzed her on. By the end of the evening, Lagunitas Undercover Shut-down American Strong was taking over the table but it was a fun battle through the Duchesse de Bourgogne, Renegade Scarlett Letter, and many more… Additional little twist to the place is menus and bill are presented inside books. Great for starting up another conversation, such as, «Was the movie better or worse than the book?». Food, they do keep it simple but this isn’t any normal pizza we are talking about. First, the pizza is a 10″ thin crust, great for one person or two not so hungry people. I had the«Baked» potato pizza, yes potatoes on a pizza with goat cheese, celery, peppers and wait for it… crispy pork belly. There was some other yummys on the pizza as well but I can’t recall but it worked out well and I ate the whole thing. The other pizzas at my table looked great as well but were all gone before any of us could or would share. I do plan to go back because this is a little closer to home than Renegade Brewery that I frequent as well. Parking is an issue but I did make a mental note to take the train or ride my bike the next time. I will agree with Meghan’s review about the noise level. I think they need to address this. It was not a busy night(no wait all night long) and we did have to semi shout to hear everyone at the table. Something needs to be done to soften the sound bouncing around in there. If the noise level was fixed, I would give this five stars for a great place to relax with friends after work.
