Orthodontics in the Highlands

I love this place, I have nothing negative to say! Honestly my daughter and I both have braces through Dr. Baros. We both have had a great experience and would highly recommend Ortho in the Highlands to all my family, friends and complete strangers.

We waited almost 2 months for the initial appointment after her dentist’s referral. I am not especially impressed with customer service. The office is very modern in design and clean but it wasn’t particularly friendly or welcoming, Turned out my daughter doesn’t need braces except for she has a tooth stuck up in her gums and they said if the tooth below is extracted the others might shift over before it comes down. The staff seemed overworked.
They didn’t explain to my 11 yr old what they were gonna do beforehand and it is not a pleasant exam. Then I had to call them over 2 months later to find out Medicaid had rejected their claim for braces — they didn’t bother to let me know (or Medicaid for that matter). The lady on the phone wasn’t very informative, friendly, or or knowledgeable. They are waiting to send the approval to get the tooth removed to her dentist until they can try again to get the braces approved. If she doesn’t need them I don’t want her to go all through that (2 years in braces and the initial pain, foods can’t eat etc…) just so they can make their $$$ which is the feeling I got when I was talking to Dr. Baros and I still get.

I gave them two stars only because the place looks clean and the staff is very nice. However– my son was in for his first consult for braces, and while watching the dental assistant taking «before» photos of my son’s teeth I became quite shocked. As someone who is trained in blood borne pathogens yearly I know what cross contamination is. I watched the assistant reach in my son’s mouth to adjust tools, then adjust her lamp, reach back in my son’s mouth, adjust her clothing, lamp, touch her camera to take photos, reach back in my son’s mouth, lamp, camera, mouth, etc… Repeatedly with one pair of gloves on, never changing them once. There was no barrier film on anything she touched. I did tell the doctor– who agreed that it was not ok, and apologized many times, as well as saying «this needs to be fixed right away.» Needless to say we left. My only regret is that I didn’t stop her while she was doing it,
I think I was in shock. I hope this office uses this review to give their techs a refresher in cleanliness because it is way too important to mess up.

This place is awesome! I originally came here because they take Medicaid which my son has– but now all the kids will do their orthodontic care here. The staff is very kind and friendly– Dr. Baros is amazing and offers a very personal touch. We couldn’t be happier!

I can’t say enough great thing about Dr. Baros and her staff, they are amazing! I had a very complicated case and Dr. Baros was great with helping me understand and feel at ease the entire treatment. If you are look for a great orthodontist that not only works with kids but also work with adults she is the BEST I promise!
