This is the worst Mexican food I have ever eaten and I’ve been to an El Maguey in Wichita. What is in the guacamole, glycerine? It’s more neon green than the slime from 90’s Nickelodeon. And the drink you served me? Was there any alcohol in it or just some sugary syrup? This place gets a star because Unilocal won’t allow me to post a review without one. Seriously, save your money and get some better food — probably at any other restaurant in the area. If you want microwave Mexican food, I’m sure there is a Safeway nearby. Worst food I’ve had in Denver!

DONOTEATHERE!!! After just leaving this place, I can’t believe I paid to sit in this awful restaurant to get served god awful food. I wouldn’t even describe the menu as Tex-Mex, but maybe as its poor welfare dependent cousin. The food looks as if it was regurgitated back onto a plate, had cheese thrown on top and microwaved to perfection. I would have had less buyers remorse ordering the entire Taco Bell Value Menu… To the management of Mexico City Lounge, you’re better than that, or maybe you’re not. Either way, your food is garbage. Horrible food. Tasted like canned chicken. Nasty green chilie. Luke warm at best. Over priced, horrible service. Will never ever be back. Where’s a no star option???

I’ve been going to Mexico City since early 90s. There is obviously new ownership which(evidently) took the greasy steak tacos from awesome to yuppie. I have to go to El Toro now for the«real deal» steak tacos and Eddie Garcia’s chili(the salsa for the tacos). The remodel job @ Mex City is impressive but I’d rather eat the best food in a dive than mediocre food in a brand-new place. Describing El Toro as a dive is being kind, but the tacos are fantastic and worth the 30 miles(one way) I need to travel to get there.

I love this place. The servers are friendly, the service is quick and upbeat. The food is great and priced fairly for the area.

It doesn’t get any better… at all. I have dined her for years and so see a family owned business be this successful warms my heart. I’ve never had nothing but amazing service and if something wasn’t right… well I don’t know what that’s like quite yet. Let them know Eli sent ya.

The fried tacos are BOMBBAY!!! Best tacos I’ve probably ever had(I’ve had a lot of tacos) the service was not that great, that’s what is stoping me from a 5 star rating but it will not stop me from going again.

Not good. Been going here for years, but we’ve finally had it when we were served a pitcher of beer($ 15!) that was already poured, sitting in the cooler. Got major attitude from surly bartender(with the owner standing right there) when we mentioned it was flat. Service has always been rude, whether at the bar or at a table. Restaurant is dirty, food is expensive – they charge for EVERY little thing. Time to venture out and find some new Mexican restaurants. (Update – wow, just received a less than friendly, unapologetic private message from the bartender – who I don’t even know – telling me to stay far away. Nice place you got there, Mexico City, real professional. Maybe you should worry more about improving your establishment than attacking customers who are less than thrilled with your service and the food you offer.)

FRIEDTACOHEAVEN. First, let me say I was thinking of rating 3 stars, but the bartender single handedly earned that 4th. We came in to try out the fried tacos before a game, sat down at the bar and were quickly greeted. I wasn’t really impressed with the margarita, but it seemed like they legitimately squeezed their lime juice, which I appreciated, but it didn’t really have much wow-factor. Nonetheless, time to order food! The lady and I were going to get three fried tacos each and split a quesadilla, the bartender, recommends we only get two each, unless we are really hungry. That’s rare, to have a server/bartender, down sell you in your better interest, that impressed me. And she was right, two each was plenty, ANDTHEYWEREAWESOME! Seriously, they were ridiculously good, I could’ve eaten more, but would’ve felt miserable probably. The quesadilla had a LOT of chicken, and was very well prepared, but it could’ve maybe used some peppers for some«zing». The venue was larger than it looked on the outside, and a little warmer than I’d prefer, but I’m definitely going back for more of those heavenly fried tacos.

I was back in Denver unfortunately for a funeral… but I still had to eat right? My friend took me to this place bragging about their crispy fried steak tacos. Man these tacos were sooooo good! Way better than I expected plus the chips n salsa were good too! I was completely stuffed — - Sucks that I live ALL the way in Cali but I was born & raised in Denver… Go Broncos! Superbowl Champs woohoo!!! Sorry…went off topic there for a moment, anyways if you are ever in Downtown Denver, maybe after a Broncos or Rockies game check this place out. I will definitely be back!

Came here on a recommendation to have the fried tacos. So we did. Won’t be doing that again! Greasy and unappetizing. Flavor was generally lacking unless you squirted the sauce supplied on it(that was good). However, we did also try the green chilli and huevos. These were good! As far as everyone raving about the fried tacos… I don’t get it. Way Greasy and way too bland.

The best steak tacos in Denver. 60 years young and still making happy tummies. I love this place. No Tostitos or Pace here. Great family recipes here.

It’s not a bad spot, nighttime noise, decent liquor and beer selection and morning hangover grub. I have to recommend Tres Agave, a fine organic tequila, smooth as a babies behind. I went here the next Morning because I was told by another patron that the menudo was the«best!!»… Mmmmmmm. No it’s not, not even close. But at least the service was good.

Fried Steak Tacos!!! The slice of avocado on each one is a slice of heaven. Sometimes you need to add a little salt yourself to the tacos, other times it’s spot on… so, take a bite before you make any seasoning additions. Chips and salsa was perfect. Can’t remember what my friends got, I was too enamored with my tacos.

Well, I’ve finally made it to Mexico City. I can’t believe this was the first time since I’ve lived 10 minutes away for 4 years. Anyway, here’s what I have to say:(in Shia LeBouf’s voice) DOIT! MAKEYOURDREAMSCOMETRUE! Now, I didn’t jump up and hug my waitress because I was in a tall stool, my waitress became a waiter then another waitress again and, honestly, I’m not much of a hugger. I went to lunch at 2ish in the afternoon. I knew I wanted the steak tacos and a Pacifico. My first waitress was pleasant enough, took my order, and delivered my beer cold and my tacos hot. Thats all I need. Then she left. The building. I came at shift change, no problemo. The taco sauce was a bit spicy and I love that too! The tacos were crispy and packed with meat and cheese then, after frying, lettuce and avocado. These were delicious! My hangover might have helped, but, I don’t nitpick. As I was reading into the second one, my first waiter came to ask me how everything was. He timed it perfectly so that I had just taken that bit too big last bite and had shredded lettuce hanging down my chin like a swamp monster. I nodded my swamp monster chin at him and he smiled and left. He barely made it away with both hands. One staff member had a birthday so there was a song and cake. I do love a cohesive team! I finally finished and realized that one of the 4 waitstaff forgot to charge me for my beer. Of course I said something, cause I’m that grrl, and the last waitress comped it, thanking me for my honesty. The breakdown: good food, qood service, staff works well as a team with a common goal and honesty is appreciated. I can see this spot being busier at lunch or happy hour or before a game. My whole experience was everything I wanted it to be.

To the food snobs below: you don’t know goodness. Get the fried tacos. HOLYMOLY they were a mouthful of amazingness. The service was prompt and thorough and the salsa was hella spicy– my margarita was strong and my Friday was fun. I will definitely be making Mexico City a weekly stop.

Food is average. Margaritas have minimal alcohol. Service is good. The place closes wayyyyyyy too early– 7pm on a Tuesday! I ate the combo #3 and I wasn’t disappointed but then again I didn’t have high expectations. The taco shell was well done, the tostada was plain & the relleno was super small. The hubs had the steak tacos and he thought the tacos were average. Great place to eat before a Rockies game — we wouldn’t go there for any other reason.

We got one of each fried tacos.(Steak, ground beef, chicken) The tacos were good… a lot of flavor, but I wouldn’t say we were blown away. They use American cheese to melt it into the meat. Who uses American cheese in tacos?!? We also got«strawberry» margaritas. They were pink, but I wouldn’t call them strawberry. The blended version was really huge chunks of ice and it wasn’t a consistency that worked with straws. Overall it wasn’t terrible, we enjoyed our meal and the price was right. We just have had and could probably have better Mexican in other parts of the Denver area.
