Upon my arrival at any restaurant, I always wash my hands. Except at India House. One soap dispenser was completely out and the other had been so watered down that I was just rubbing more water onto my already wet hands. I’m all for cutting costs, but I think soap should be an exception. While I was going to the restroom, I saw our waiter making my gin and tonic from a generic looking plastic bottle of tonic water that had been sitting out. When my $ 8 flat well gin arrived, it was still room temperature with a few tiny ice cubes sitting on the top. Then I had to ask for more ice, which in turn just watered down the already watery drink. Remind you, this is $ 8. Then my date ordered the swordfish and the waiter’s response is: We do not have swordfish, but it’s another find of fish. My date: What type of fish? Waiter: Not swordfish, but another type of fish. Would you like to try it. My date: No thanks. Then the samosas came out, which were dry and mediocre at best. I had the coconut shrimp curry, which was actually really good. My date’s shrimp vindaloo was okay, but nothing spectacular. We ordered the raisin and apricot naan, which turned out to be just apricot naan. Did they think I wouldn’t notice a main ingredient was missing? Then our tall indian waiter turned into a nice young girl. I work in the service industry and understand you might give your table to another server, but you should always introduce yourself! All of these complaints would be acceptable if I were at dive. But with the prices of this place, I would expect more… alot more. I would never go back and suggest saving your money, even if you have a groupon.

I was a little hesitant about taking my boyfriend here with my Groupon deal after reading all of the reviews on Unilocal, but I figured, what the heck, it can’t be that bad, right? Man, I’m glad that we did cause we ended up having a fantastic meal that both of us scarfed down. We were both starving and decided to start off with an order of the tikka shahi kebabs. These were boneless chicken breast marinated in aromatic spices & grilled in tandoor. The coating on them was almost like a BBQ sauce and quite flavorful. This just whet our appetites for the main course. For our meals, my boyfriend ordered the lamb korma and I ordered the coconut chicken. All I can say is wow, these dishes had a great mixture of spices and sauce. Although I’m not a huge fan of raisins, I tried a bite of the lamb korma anyways and was pleasantly surprised, and to the dismay of my bf, not to find any chunks of raisin. The bite had a nice musky flavor to it. I have to say though I was hooked on the chicken coconut. I would have licked the plate clean if we weren’t in a public place! The chicken was cooked perfectly and the coconut sauce had just the right amount of sweetness to it to balance out the spices. Although the place was empty for a Wednesday night, both of us had a great dining experience and are looking forward to returning again to use our Unilocal check-in offer. Don’t be afraid, go and check this place out, it’s worth it!

Never again. I went with my sister recently and the portions were ridiculously small. We went on a weekend afternoon and there were only a few other people there. Our server was not pleasant whatsoever and the beads of sweat coming from his face throughout our entire meal was such a turn off– I pretty much lost my appetite. The service was slow and the food was okay. We ordered the basic chicken tiki masala but we found ourselves still starving after our meals since it basically came with two bites. I’m going to keep this short but even if we got another groupon, I would not recommend this place.

After reading a ton of negative reviews,(one from tonight), we used out Groupon anyway and were pleasantly surprised. Now to be fair, the food was fine, not great, not bad by any means, but enjoyable. No, it wasn’t the most authentic, but my lamb paneer was flavorful and my boyfriend’s lamb boti masala was flavorful as well. The best part of our experience was the server. She was super nice, both unobtrusive and attentive, helpful and very friendly. The prices were excessive for the food but I would be willing tp try the lunch buffet sans Groupon… and definitely stop in for a drink or to meet friends… its nice inside and I like bangra music.

Let me begin by going over what I didn’t like: The restaurant ambiance was not unique, the service was poor(only 2 servers for dinner hour, yet they were friendly and tried), and Indian House didn’t offer any full bodied red wines by the glass. I’m not all that experienced when it comes to Indian food but I know what I like and my meal tonight hit the spot. I started with the onion salad(WARNING it is not for the faint of heart– it really is onions, bell peppers, and FRESH sliced jalapenos with a yummy salad dressing), shared some Roti(indian bread) with my friends(I recommend fresh garlic and coriander nan). For my entrée I had the Boti Masala(its a simple dish made up of cubed lamb in a spiced tomato sauce) if you like meat and spicy I recommend it. For dessert we talked the server into doing a sampler of Kheer, kulfi ice cream, and gulab jamun. But if you aren’t a fan of sweets the sweet apricot and raisin nan roti will do! Basically I know what to order now and will be returning:)

This place is very nice inside and the atmosphere is so great. They should probably spend more time on their food and customer service than the décor. Can the waitresses be more rude? It’s like they’re paid to avoid your table. They don’t make eye contact with you and after they ask what you want to drink, that’s the last you’ll hear from them. The food? I was good before I found out what real Indian food tasted like. Don’t ever go to their buffet, it’s a huge mess of blandness. Nothing special, nothing memorable. Their dinner is a little better but absolutely not worth your money.

Friday night was spent at the India House Restaurant in downtown Denver. My wife had called ahead for reservations as recommended, though it didn’t seem all that busy upon our arrival. The restaurant doesn’t appear to be that large, but they have a surprisingly big second floor as well. We were seated quickly at a booth table, which proved a little tricky with our infant’s car seat. We were given water immediately, but it took some time for any orders to be placed. When the server was ready to take our order we had decided on drinks, dinner, and to skip an appetizer. The drinks came in a respectable amount of time, and as per usual with India restaurants, the food arrived rather quickly too. I ordered the Chicken Vindaloo, while my wife went with the Chicken Tikka Masala. Overall the food was just okay. I wasn’t much a fan of the Vindaloo, it wasn’t as spicy as I typically like it to be and it was actually pretty bland. The Tikka Masala was better, but still not up to par with other Indian restaurants around town. Having visited a handful of these Indian restaurants around Denver and the neighboring suburbs, I would put India House toward the bottom of the list. Not only wasn’t it not very good, but the price was high, and the servings were not all that large. I have another free $ 20 to spend at the restaurant, but I’m not sure we will be back. Dinner quickly went $ 60 for just two meals and one large beer split between the two of us.

I met a friend here for dinner and thank god we had a groupon. First off, the décor is pretty swanky for an Indian joint… and not really in a good way. More like they were trying to be something that they’re not. We ordered one of those giant Indian beers to split and it was $ 14. Come on really?!? If I’m paying that much for 24 ounces of beer it better be about 10% alcohol. Moving onto entrees, they were also pretty pricey. We decided to split an order of Chiken Tikka Masala and that was a good portion for two. I was hoping the food would blow me away, but not so much. Average. Don’t think I’ll be coming back. There just wasn’t anything great about this place or the food.

Went with the wife during dinner. Servers are white and speak English. Yeah yeah, I know someone will give me crap about this but I’ve been to ethnic places where the staff don’t speak English… Overall impression: WTF, these entrees are ridiculously small! Felt like I was at a French place. They are seriously 4 – 5 ounces. Here are some comparison points: — 40% the size of the Chipotle bowls. And it’s curry, so it’s not like it can pile above the rim of the bowl into a nice beautiful arch(like rice). — 1.5x the side of guac order container at Qdoba — 40% the size of your standard/typical Chinese take out container — Typical rice bowl at any Asian restaurant Seriously, when they brought the food out, we thought it was a side order they brought out on accident. Anyway, Chicken Tikka Masala was $ 16. Saag paneer was $ 15. Come on, it’s spinach! $ 15? Now that I think about it, this comes to $ 4 an ounce — that’s like a steak at Elways! Spinach was ok. CTM was good. But I can’t get over the fact that they were so small. Indian food ingredients are relatively cheap, so why not make the entrees a bit bigger for customers to be full and happy? Oh btw, I really don’t understand why they bring out such huge plates to eat on when there is no food to fill the plate up! We went to Noodles and Company afterward b/c we were still hungry and didn’t want to shell out another $ 35 – 45 for another 2 – 3 entrees to fill us up. If you really have an urge to come here, go during the lunch buffet and you can get unlimited amount of all the same stuff for $ 9.

Excited to check this out with my living social coupon. I was finally able to get my wife to come to get Indian food with me. I was so excited. Left unimpressed. Unfortunately, i think it was our server’s first night. I can appreciate this, but when you’re paying $ 15 for a modest entrée and $ 6 for a bottle of domestic beer(really?), I expect someone to be able to tell me anything about Indian cuisine. We had a vegtable tempura app and there were three sauces which accompanied the dish. When I asked him what they were he said one was mint, one was white, and one was red. I mean, I like me some«white» sauce as much as the next guy but come on. It was not busy and there were 4 servers running around, but we sat for a while with our glasses and beer empty for a considerable time. I did enjoy my butter chicken entrée but I was expecting much more overall, especially with the cost of our meal. My next Indian dinner will be somewhere else.

I always enjoy the food here but I’m not a big fan of the ‘fine dining’ experience. I enjoy the ambience and comfort of Marrakesh moreso but my coworkers enjoy going here. Some of them have trouble getting up from the low seating at Marrakesh(lol). I haven’t had anything hear that wasn’t pleasant. The service is good but we always have to wait quite some time before the server successfully charges our separate checks. So far … it’s been ‘any’ server. We’ve also only gone for the lunch buffet so I don’t know how efficient the service is outside of that time.

I ordered take-out from this place and they give you enough for 2 – 3BIG meals. Hoohah! I enjoyed the ticca masala(as always) and the naan bread stuffed with potatoes and onions! I am going to hit up their buffet next time and branch out from my ticca masala. Edit: The two times I have gone back I have experienced MUCH spicier food(when it says mild), so if you’re into that, this place is for you, since most Indian restaurants have less spicy food). Also beware of the extremely grouchy woman that sometimes works there.

Three stars for the tasty food yet high prices(and bizarre vibe) of India House. Luckily we brought a groupon, or else I think there would have been a bit of sticker shock when we got the bill. I remember thinking this place was awesome when I went on my 20th birthday with my mom. It has definitely gotten weirder over the years. Prices are super high(think $ 15 for a small vegetable entrée and rice with no naan or complimentary snacks). I’m wondering if their strategy is having inflated prices and then offering groupons and $ 10 off with a Unilocal check-in to make you feel like you got a good deal? Seems like it really only reaches out to a demographic of people who are frequent internet users. I went for Bengan Bharta(my standby eggplant dish), and I think it was missing a few ingredients. Like tomatoes. And salt. It had a nice flavor though and very large, recognizable chunks of eggplant. Also tasty was the samosa and assorted pakoras on the vegetable appetizer sampler. Would we go for a $ 14 appetizer under normal circumstances? Probably not without a groupon. They were playing some Indian type dance music but the CD or whatever kept skipping. I recommend Pandora or satellite radio to amend this problem. It was pretty frequent. Also, the bathroom is upstairs by the completely empty bar. And the bathrooms aren’t as nice as the interior of the restaurant would suggest. An overall strange experience in a mostly empty restaurant. I think they should either go for being a upscale LoDo Indian place and have the food and drink to back up the prices(cocktail menu was mostly restricted to cosmo and daquiri type drinks) or just go for being another great affordable Indian option in Denver, like Little India. Maybe then they won’t have to offer so many discounts.

This was our first time at India House and definitely won’t be our last. The restaurant itself has a relaxed yet contemporary ambiance which was enjoyable in and of itself; it has two levels and both have floor to ceiling views of Blake Street. But it’s truly the hospitable staff and great food that made the experience. The vegetarian samosas are some of the best I’ve tasted and the mint chutney is delicious! I get chicken vindaloo at every Indian restaurant I go to but this one was truly special. The staff was very gracious and quick to get our drinks and food. I live and work downtown so I have been to my fair share of Indian restaurants, but India House is by far my new favorite. We liked it so much that we are literally coming back again tomorrow night! If you are thinking about trying it… do it!

Being that my Groupon was about to expire, I finally went in to try out the food. My boyfriend and I were pretty uneducated when it came to Indian dishes. Then again it was survival of the fittest because the staff wasn’t very informative on what to order. We ended up ordering out of the blue, I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala with Potato Nan(Indian-like-Pita bread) and the boyfriend ordered the Fish Tikka(grilled swordfish). When our dishes came out, my boyfriend asked me in an innocent tone, «Is that the appetizers or the side dishes?» I looked at him and said, «No, it’s the main course!» Our dishes were pretty good, the Chicken masala resembled a Thai Curry Chicken, and the grilled Swordfish were the size of five McDonald’s chicken nuggets with some white onions arrayed on top. Overall, would I visit this place again? Probably for the buffet, but not for dinner. Then again, the restaurant does have a deal on . Credit to the waiter, he was not upset we had a Groupon to give him, that’s why we provided the proper gratuity.

My wife and I both got sick after eating here. Saag paneer was quite good but the korma was almost flavorless. The samosa had a strange chutney that had chana masala in it.

Decent food, great location, upscale setting and all the water you can handle. So, I got a $ 25 gift certificate for this place on at a discount. They definitely enforce the restrictions on a gc, here. You must order 2 entrees and your bill must be a minimum of $ 35 to use the gc. No prob, we ordered the lamb saag and chicken tikka masala. I had read online that you could order your curry mild, medium or spicy. But, our server didn’t ask how we wanted it, so I think they made it mild(boo!). I had read here on Unilocal that the lamb saag was quite good. Gonna have to disagree. It was aight, as was the chicken tikka masala. I have to say, I much prefer these dishes at Yak & Yeti. But, you have to take into account, we didn’t get to order properly, so maybe they are quite good when made medium or spicy. I have to say the Naan was good, but again, not as good as Yak & Yeti. The restaurant itself is quite nice. We went on a Monday night and it was pretty dead, so I’m sure the like two other people in the restaurant heard our entire conversation, ha ha. And, this place is quite easy to find, just hop off the Free Mall Ride and hike a block and you’re there. There is also a pay parking lot across the street. There is a small patio out front for those who dig people watching and fantastic air conditioning inside to escape this freak heat wave we seem to be experiencing. $ 45 for dinner for two with no alcohol & no dessert was a bit steep, but again this is a nice restaurant and a good choice for a date or a splurge night. So, the food was decent and the restaurant was nice, but I have to say that I will be checking out some other restaurants downtown before heading back. And, I will definitely remember to order my dish medium or hot, next time!

Over priced for the portion size. Service was beyond bad this time. I’ve been here for a charity event and this evening for dinner with an out of town guest. I thought i remembered enjoying the food quite a bit, but this time the experience was just too bad for me to want to return. The food which cost about 16 – 18 came out in bowl about the size of soup bowls. The server let us sit for a long time prior to taking our order. We started with a bottle of wine and somosas. The wine took an inordinate amount of time to obtain, it was served with different types of glasses, none of which were the correct one. My glass was dusty as well as had something stuck to the inside. Sigh. He served the wine without even having anyone do a taste. When the appetizer arrived, i had yet to be given a plate, the server put the appetizer down on the table and left. Leaving me to obtain a plate and silverware from a neighboring table. Sigh. The head waiter/manager noticed us not getting service, sitting with empty glasses and did nothing to rectify the situation. The food was still tasty –skip the butter chicken, go with the garlic nan, and get takeout!

I love Indian food. I love chai. I love downtown. I love great lunch conversation. I only know one thing that could have made this afternoon any better and it must have been my lucky day. Great atmosphere, with a small buffet in the rear of the restaurant. Wonderful aromas and tastes made this lunch spot so much more than«just your average business lunch». Highly recommend.
