i feel like I can’t right a real review since I haven’t tried TOO many of their things. I went to the justice league food truck event and headed straight to this cart. Hello! Chef from Table 6?! Anyways we decided to try the pork sandwich. Of course… amazing. The meat was tender and the sauce was sweet with a hint of spice. The bread was so soft it was soaking up all the juices from the pulled pork. The reason I feel like I can’t right a real review is cause… how can someone mess up a pulled pork sandwich?! They are so delicious! Either way, I’m intrigued and I want to try their whole menu!

I was pretty pleased with my first taste of Gastro Cart goodies at the Unilocalapalooza 2.0 party this year but the mini chicken taco sample bites were just too mini. I wanted 10+ of them. But I was polite and only ate one. Maybe three. These two guys are super friendly and I like their unique take on tacos with kimchee, gyros on naan and the other creative options on their menu. They were at Colorado Winery Row last weekend and I think I loved their veggie sliders even more. My friend — who had and loved the chicken taco THEN had a veggie slider — agreed. My husband was less thrilled with his bacon sandwich concoction but still, it disappeared quite quickly, hmmm… I’d like to stop by their cart more often. The veggie tacos are at the top of my list. Though they have non-vegetarian options, the veggie stuff is delicious enough even for meat eaters.

When I first arrived I wasn’t too impressed with the menu here. I’m always looking for unique items and I don’t like chicken. So I ordered the Gyro. I’ve been eating a lot of traditional Gyros lately. I like to say the word just like it’s spelled, Gy-Ro, and it’s annoying when people correct me and say he-ro. I was pleasantly surprised with the Gyro, it had 2 unique sauces on it and the pita they put it on was very tasty and different. My one complaint is they didn’t have any tea to drink. They had a lot of other sodas and even some juices but I always like to drink iced tea with my meals. I’d eat here again especially if the menu changes.

For $ 9 at a food cart I thought I was going to get a knock your socks off kinda luncheon treat. Didn’t get one. Got a well made, creative, meaty gyro with a good tasting(but too cold) order of quinoa and a fruit drink. The nicest thing about it: the lamb was not that processed hunka-chunka-dried-out-meat-byproduct. It was honest, roasted, good tasting lamb, placed on a very good pita(that could have used another minute or two of finishing on the grill), and served with an excellent homemade tzatziki(?) sauce. The not the nicest thing(s): a bit over-priced; cold quinoa; under-grilled pita. Will I go back. Sure. Give these guys a try. They’re serving up more creative, and better than your average bear, kinda food,. And on a nice day, there are few things more urbane and pleasant than grabbing some street food and strolling the streets of our beautiful city.

After hearing so many great things about the GastroCart i finally stopped by. I got the special wich was a sweet and sour pork sandwich with a great aioli and a very nice slaw, the pork was tender and flavorful, the bread was very nicely toasted and the jalapeño ginger aioli was a great ingredient bring the whoe sandwich together. So you may be asking why only 3stars Jim? Portion and price are the answer while id say its a great price for a restaurant, $ 6 for a smaller pork sandwich is a little off putting for me. Other then that the place was great and i will definitely be back soon to try the gyro and taco if they’re as good as the pork i will be adding another star.

Can I tell you that I walked past, maybe three other carts to get there. I thought, hey let me eat a quick lunch and get back to work. No waiting for waiters, no table to clean, etc etc. Just grab and go. Well not quite. There was some cooking going on back there. The gastro cart that day was located on the corner of 18th and Arapahoe. Not a far walk. The two guys running it were extremely nice, cheerful and enthusiatic about what they were doing. Providing great food without all the fluff. I ate the spicy tacos. Chicken tacos with kimchi. The side was quinoa, which I actually have some in my pantry, but have not yet tried. It was delicious. Downed with apple soda… good stuff! We found a shady place to stand and eat, watching the world go by… and the cupcake truck across the street?! …I’ll review that now… Dave

Rolling up to the Oriental Theater for some presentations, I was excited to see a trendy food cart out front with chicken tacos, veggie burgers, and gyros, ranging from $ 6 to $ 9 for a meal with quinoa and a bottled water or soda. I had the chicken tacos and my girlfriend had a gyro. The tacos were very small«street taco» style with pre-cooked«fresh from the bag» chicken and not much else. While they were a solid step down from what you’d get next door at Tacos Jalapeño, they were, in fairness, also more expensive. Also more expensive than what you’d get at a dine-in place was the gyro. My girlfriend categorically hated it but I was hungry enough to suffer through part of her meal too. It consisted of fatty shredded lamb(as opposed to, I don’t know, actual gyro meat), a puffy sourdough flatbread, and a foamy tzatziki-mint sauce. The appeal of street food is supposed to be that it’s really good, really authentic, really friendly, and really cheap. Gastro Cart takes a different approach in being bad, inauthentic, smug, and expensive. A generous two stars.

Pretty cool little stand. These guys were out in front of the Oriental last night during Ignite. And I must say, knowing I could try out Gastro Cart is what sold me on the event. I thought the prices seemed pretty reasonable for the quality of food. I got the mashed pinto bean veggie burger which came with a tomato jam and smoky dijon — a cool and different take on ketchup and mustard. Then I liberally doused with sriracha which they have on hand. It was pretty big for $ 5. While the bun was a bit bready and the veggie patty not as charred and crispy as I like, it was pretty well-rounded and unique veggie burger. They also had the chicken kimchee tacos and gyros on offer — I’m guessing from the reviews that these are regular menu items and the burger was a special. Yet another food cart that makes me envious of downtown daytime workers.

I like the concept behind the Gastro Cart. I really wanted to love it. After all, I love experimenting with food and I love street food. If I worked in the area I might like it more as an alternative to fast food options. But without that context, it is just okay. I felt like most items had at least one too many ingredients. And each item included one ingredient that I don’t like. But there were three of us sharing food, so I didn’t want to special order every dish. Plus, I had hopes that Gastro Cart might make me rethink those ingredients by offering them in an interesting combination which I hadn’t considered. The Korean-style tacos never had a chance, I’m afraid. I’ve been to the Kogi truck, the originator of the Korean taco, so I’m a tough sell there. It was just roast chicken with kim chee instead of cilantro, not bulgogi meat or anything. But the addition of Thousand Island dressing was too much. It sort of dumbed the whole thing down. And I hate Thousand Island. The bread and butter quinoa also let me down. «Broth» was just pickle juice, so my quinoa just tasted like sweet pickles.(I don’t like sweet pickles – I prefer lots of garlic and vinegar – so that was also a strike against them from the start.) Frank’s sliders were not a specialty created by a guy named Frank. They were pieces of chicken doused in Frank’s hot sauce and served with bleu cheese. No experimental gastronomy here. Just Buffalo chicken sliders, which is good if you like that sort of thing. The gyro was fine, though again guajillo-mint foam might be overdoing it a bit. I like complex flavor combinations, but sometimes simple is best. The ‘naan’ they used instead of pita did not seem like naan(I had to ask what the bread was) and was likely not cooked in a tandoor. It was perfectly fine All said, they seem to use pretty fresh ingredients, and the guys behind the grill were chatty and friendly and really seemed excited to be there. For that alone, I’d give them another try. But I’d prefer fewer ingredients.

Dear Gastro Cart, I have facebook and Unilocal stalked you for months. Contemplating when we would meet and would you be as wonderful as the hype. When I arrived for our rendezvous there were no lines but your delicious smells wafted through the intersection at 18th& Curtis and into my brain. I tested your two veggie options, a taco & quinoa. Do you know what I think about us? I think you are perfect for me. You are the perfect amount of food and bottled water for $ 5. We will have many times together in the sunshine and warm air this summer. Love, Evey

Eating from street carts is, no contest, my favorite way to eat. There’s nothing better than walking around a city, any city, smelling something good wafting through the air, and following your nose to something cheap that tastes good eaten out of foil wrap while sprawled on sunny building steps. Gastro Cart is a little expensive for street food, but the quality matches the price. Dan and I split their gyros(we didn’t want to fill up because we were intending on going street-cart-hopping) and unexpectedly ended up kinda full! When I looked at the gyro, it looked more like a pulled pork taco, and thus confused my taste buds when they expected taco and tasted grilled lamb and tomato guajillo mint foam. I loved the juiciness of the meat and the balance of meat to seasoning was perfect. The fact that it was rolled in naan rather than in a pita took away the usual bread-heaviness that gyros get. I would expect to see this kind of perfection on a plate at a fancy restaurant — you know, the kind that doesn’t put dollar signs or cents with its prices — rather than wrapped in foil and sold at a street cart. But I’m glad they’re transcending boundaries. Anything that expands the repertoire of street food is a good thing.

These guys rule. Their Gyro is one of the best around. I’m a huge sucker for Naan bread and theirs is so soft and chewy. The spicy chicken tacos were good too, but I just didn’t find them that spicy. Maybe they thought I couldn’t handle it or something. Like others on here have said become a fan of them on facebook and you’ll know when they will be out and all of the sweet specials they have going on every week. Street food in Denver is definitely getting there.

A welcome addition to food cart culture downtown, especially in the culinary no-man’s land that is 18th and Curtis. The buffalo chicken sliders, a common special, are made for one handed eating, delicious and a $ 3 can be bought on a whim. The chicken tacos with kim chee were fantastic as well, the pot stickers not be missed and the gyro, good, but be careful when in business attire as it is sloppy. Active on Facebook and Twitter, as well their website, keep electronic tabs on these guys as the specials change often and if they intend to take a day off they will advertise it.

You might end up paying a little bit more than at your typical food cart, but it is well worth it if the gourmet quality of the meal. I only wish I had known about the off-menu daily special before I ordered. They really need a sign for that(or maybe I’m just blind). I was pleased that their drink selection included some iced teas and Kern’s Nectar. I was surprised that they had Throwback Mountain Dew. Not my cup of tea, but still cool.

A gyro is pretty tough to do well, but the guys at Gastro Cart hit just about every note perfectly. My only complaint is that the«pita» fell apart in my hand each time I made a move to my mouth. Luckily they gave me a box as a plate, otherwise this would have literally been street food. Other than that, the gyro meat was plentiful and plenty tasty, the onions and sauce that goes along with the sandwich perfectly complemented the meat, and the«pita» had a unique texture that had me scraping up every little bit of it that fell into the box. I’ll definitely be back to try some of the specials.

Maybe he was on an off day. maybe he wasn’t. 8 bucks for a grease dripping/hardening experience is not my cup of tea. Seriously picking up the gyro was like putting my hands into a tub of lard. It might have been a bad experience because it was like 25 degrees out. and the 1st bite was ok. but after the 2nd&3rd bite. you can start to see the grease on the bottom of the box and that pretty much made me gag. 3 bucks for a chicken taco w/Kim Chee? Place is ok. but definitely lacks in the bang for the buck category.

Right outside my office is a revelation. First salvo demands that I acknowledge proprietors Mike Winston and Bryan Hume for walking away from the conventional ascension of their Table 6 line-cooking past and bravely setting out into the cold to turn street food on its head. It’s never easy to swim against conventional wisdom, but these guys rarely play it predictable or safe when it comes to food. It began in the fall with three staples of affordable, gourmet lunch options: spicy kim chee chicken tacos, a veggie taco that adds cream cheese & smoked jalapeño aioli to the mix and the divine«roast lamb on naan with a guajillo-mint foam, Napa cabbage and taziki.» Then you have the rotating specials. When you’re serving up hand-crafted fine-foods that defy expectations, you have free reign to get creative. Just some of the lunches that have reduced me to a giggling food geek in the past months: a prosciutto version of a cheesesteak a rich take on the grilled cheese and tomato soup classic open faced roast pork sandwiche covered in egg bbq short rib meatball sub with manchego and olive oil corn crabcakes I like to saunter through the office and let the smell permeate the place. Everyone inevitably wants to see what you have the reactions escalate when you tell them it was bought from the street cart downstairs and that it was no more expensive that venturing deeper downtown for food. And I have time to savor every bite because there’s careful preparation to assure you’re not waiting long to be fed and can enjoy your entire lunch break. I’d be first in line to support a new street cart in Denver in hopes of ushering in something similar to the loved madness of everything from roving dessert trucks to lobster rolls under a bridge that I regularly partook in while living in New York. These five stars are about more than that idea though as the Gastro Cart duo deliver taste bud guarantees with alarming consistency. Be sure to follow their twitter to keep up on the availability of specials, passwords for drink discounts(coca cola with the sugar cane of course) and the occasional treat announcements(dr. pepper lollipops!).

I’ve been going to the gastro cart since it opened and love it. But here’s what got me to write a review: «Bbq short rib, caramelized onions, all on a cheddar naan with some crispy cabbage, and more cheese!» I brought a co-worker over to the cart to sample this wonder and it was even more luxurious than I thought possible. The first bite made good on every promise I could have made myself about this sandwich, and by the second bite I was having a synesthetic experience. I kid you not, I heard music while I ate this sandwich, it was that intense. Everything here is just top-notch. The lamb gyro is actually more of a pulled lamb wrapped in a pillowy naan. It’s pretty garlicky, though, so watch out! The veggie tacos are the best I’ve ever had, and the chicken tacos are a fun twist, with kim chee adding some spice. I recommend following these guys on Twitter and getting updates by text, because you don’t want to forget to check their daily specials. So good. So good.

My girlfriend works in the building that the cart sits in front of and has been talking about it since it opened. Up until today she has also been teasing me about how good it is, and FINALLY brought me a gyro. It was very good, not a traditional gyro by any means, right down to the pita bread. The roasted pulled lamb was very flavorful as well as everything else in it. There were so many different flavors with each bite it was like having 4 sandwiches in one. I cant wait to try their other items especially the pickles that I have been hearing about.
