Came with a very large group(30 people) to dance on Friday night. We chose this place because we knew that it is not as busy or as crowded as most gay bars in Denver, that it has a large dance floor and for the advertised DJ on Friday nights. Instead of top 40 remixed, the evening was shared by a second DJ who played heavy house music. No problem… but not what we expected and the DJ was unwilling to take requests. The floor was completely empty during his sets and then would fill up again during the as-advertised sets. Very strange. But maybe they want to keep it that way.

They have hired a crazy woman. She sat out on the patio crying all night. I am embarrassed by how intoxicated my partner got but this woman & her friends came at us like wolves and she wasn’t even working.

Crispy does psychic readings and it changed my life. It’s worth the happy hour well specials to have your future read for a moderate tip.

Entertaining a friend from out of town in desperate need of a «gaycation», we hit this spot while checking out other gay-friendly nightlife places. TL;DR version: it’s a great place with a great vibe. Accept no imitations. Primer for straight guys: There are gay bars that are awesome and upbeat and fun and then there are the feeding-time-at-the-zoo places where you stay three feet from the walls at all times and for the love of pete do NOT go near the men’s room. The Compound is in the former category. The space and the clientele are cool as hell and a crazy lot of fun to hang out with. The drinks here are creative and very zen, the selection of alcohol is solid(but no Tito’s! Fix that!), and sure, they might roll their eyes if you put Village People on the jukebox, but they forgive you once Madonna comes on haha. My wife had such a blast we can’t wait to go back, so hats off to the staff and crowd at Compound, you’re all awesome.

A pretty retro alternative dance club. We went to the Blow Pony event. Which was a gathering of former club kids, and drag queens. Raja form drag race, was supposed to perform. He got there way late and had to leave before I did his thing. I guess he just got off the plane. Buffalo exchange did a fashion show. Not sure if the club is a gay mecca, or just extremely gay friendly. Music was old school house and some drum and bass. Light show was wonderfully cheesy. Not sure what it is like in the day to day operations.

Checked this place out with a girlfriend recently, the bartenders are awesome! they really do have a lot of options for drinks and the happy hour lasts until 8 pm! Score! they have a patio out back for smoking(which is totally nice for the folks who don’t smoke and are with people that do) They play the best music for the atmosphere. good dance music that just makes you smile. They are a little limited on the bathroom situation(no paper towels and apparently only one bathroom that has an actual door) Aside from that, if you’re looking for a cool spot that has a long happy hour this is the right place.

Much improved over the years, I don’t know why some of the commenters are so unhappy.

Very unfriendly bar tenders. Not happy to help you, not thankful for a tip. The only redeeming thing is their patio. Won’t be back, ever

I never understand why this place can’t be all that it could be. Nice space, great location, almost enough parking, good drinks, friendly staff, great dancefloor with night lighting and a good sound system But yet it fails. It’s nearly empty every time I go. I think it’s the unbearably bad music: nobody wants to dance. I go there every now and then with a friend who goes there because the dance floor is empty, and getting my body to move to the music there is like pulling teeth. The DJs can’t keep the beat going, they mix in queeny self-important dramatic breaks that everyone stands around waiting for them to finish, and all the songs sound the same. There’s so much good music out there, funky, imaginative, vocal stuff like the Hed Kandi, Hi-FI Mike, and Jimpster collections I can get online from Pandora that all get my friends dancing at my house, and the DJ there can’t even go there. I keep wondering if they’ll let me just hook up my phone with Pandora to their system and fire the DJ. In a town where there already is very little good dance music(not you, Craig C!) it isn’t hard to do better — and the Compound fails.

Time for an update. Prices have gone up. The only time I drink here is on «logo days» or at HH. If you hit them during«regular» price hours you’ll pay $ 4 for a short(and I do mean short) and $ 5 for a tall well drink. Really, you could buy a bottle of the cheap shit well booze they pour for the price of one drink. They’ve installed a juke box so the music selection is a crap shoot depending on the crowd. The owners have cut back everywhere they can(no bar snacks or food at HH on Fridays) and the crowd is dwindling as a result. They have a knack for firing most of the decent bartenders. I think it’s circling the drain.

Some of the employees are quite rude and inconsiderate… I will NOT be visiting this establishment again. EVER!

Really fun place to hang out with your gay friends. I have a gaggle of gays who love to dance, YAY! This place has poppin’ music and great lighting that is synced to the music. The dance floor is never crowded. The staff is super nice, helpful, quick, and some of them are even cute! If you’re a straight girl, like me you won’t get hit on, or even find a straight man there, but sometimes that’s nice, right! I like to go there with my gaggle, get a nice cocktail, watch them dance, and listen to the music. One adorable little waiter came to check on me several times the last time we went out. He even danced with me, he was so sweet, a great dancer; he even taught me some new moves!

It’s called the Dogpound for a reason… It is fun if you want a slum night out with your gurls. Strong, cheap drinks. And if you need a change of venue for a bit, strippers are right next door. Somehow my friends always end up at the Crypt looking at toys at like 1AM. That is the effect an evening here will have on you

I have been going to this place for the better part of the past decade and don’t plan on stopping any time soon. I like the Compound for many reasons. The drinks are inexpensive and very strong, just the combination I prefer. There was only one time I had to pay a cover but it was new year’s eve and it was only $ 5. Although it doesn’t get to terribly busy, the dancefloor is welcoming and the music, not bad. It does have a seedy element to it, some of the patrons are kind of sleazy but, hey, its a dive bar on Broadway, keep an eye on your shit and get over it. The Compound is the type of place that you can go to when you want to dance and drink while at the same time not spending very much money and not needing to dress up. I have met many really cool, nice people here and frequently run into friends. The crowd is generally not judgemental and there to have a good time, not so much to impress people(in my opinion). Also, it is the beginning of what I like to call«the fruit loop» as it is a few doors down from The Cript and Boyztown(also personal favorites). It is great to be able to toogle between each of the establishments. One more thing, I went to the Compound on Friday, got a little sloshed and ended up leaving my jacket at the side of the dance floor. I returned the next day with my man to find that they had kept it for me in the lost n found. Score! My boyfriend and I then hung out and drank super cheap drinks($ 1.25 for a beer… whaaaa?) and chatted it up with one of my bear buddies. Good times!

I visited this establishment on the evening in which daylight savings time was to go into effect. I was with a small group of friends and we ordered drinks. Approximately ten minutes after we had gotten our drinks, while playing a game of pool, the bartender announced that the bar would be closing a half hour early and that everyone in the bar had three minutes in which to finish drinks and«make [our] way to the exit or [he] would get into trouble.». Exactly three minutes later he came over to my group and physically removed drinks from our hands and informed us that we had to leave. When a member of my group asked if we could finish our drinks quick since we had just paid for them, he responded, «I’m sorry, you have to leave now or I’ll get into trouble. I may be a fag, but I’m not a stupid fag and this place will not see any of my business again. Bad business is bad business and in the time of a poor economy, only establishments that earn my cash, will see it.

C to the O to the M to the POUND. Woot woot it up for the stiffest cocktails in town… and the irony of a stiff cocktail at a gay bar is not lost on me :-) First, the hours of operation are great! I’ve had those mornings when the only cure for my fever is more cow bell and another drink! 7am happy hour, yes please! Sure, it’s a rough looking(and smelling) crowd early in the morning but if nothing else you can be glad your life isn’t as bad as some of these patrons. This is a good place to get your dance on without the headache of going to a club. You still get the strobe lights, loud music thumpa thumpa, drunken foolios who think they have rhythm, shirtless bartenders, chain smokers, questionably underage clientele and creepy old guys in the corner. What more do you need? The location is great — on Broadway and 2nd. There is a small parking lot in the rear… of the building ;-) but more times than none street parking is also available. I prefer to take a taxi to the bar and then stubmle home to Cap Hill. This is more of a down to party atmosphere than Boyztown and with much stronger drinks. Speaking of which — watch out! While the price of a stiff one can be a bit high you totally get what you pay for. Cute, fun and polite bartenders make the experience all the better. I’ve seen them do card tricks, bottle tricks and even flaming booze tricks! The music is definitely along the lines of a club with a lot of techno remixes and it’s way loud. But there’s no cover charge and it’s totally close to the action of the city! I suggest this place on the weekend as there is a good crowd but it’s not elbow to elbow. Well, you might be in tight quarters in the bathroom but that’s about it. There is a quaint smoking patio in the back for when you need a break from dancing or just need to cool off from shakin’ your groove thang. A nice change from other, typical bars and clubs The Pound is not to be missed!

What a Blast! I totally embarassed myself dancing here, and enjoyed every min of it! This was a great stop for our Bachorlorette Party! Two Bars, Dance Floor, side tables and plenty of places to «sit» and take a break from the«what most people consider dancing to be» and relax those heels! I’m not sure how much my tab was or if I even paid it, but This place was FUN! The door guy was awesome!
