I fucking love chedd’s. Marisa’s complaints are exactly why I love it. I grew up in the Midwest as a cheese eater and I love getting a wide variety of cheeses on different kinds of bread. Last week was swiss, blue, avocado on rye. The time before that was sharp cheddar, the jalapeño jack, avodcado, pesto, salami on rye. Dammmn so tasty! Go expecting a lot of intense Wisconsin in your grill. I only wish they carried Lakefront’s beers since they have several of their signs up!

After all of my friends have raved about the place I had to try it. I’m not a fan of ANY sandwich that is toasted or pressed but I will admit that these are good. They look small but are totally worth the price and filling. If you like cheese(any type) you must go here.

I went for my favorite sandwich today… it was as delicious as always but the staff has changed(outside the cook). The new«counter boy» is a D-Bag. He wrote the special of the day up… too bad you couldn’t read it and when you said so he rolled his eyes. I’ll still continue to go because I’m in love with a sandwich… I’ll just be less apt to try their special(s).

Flattery will get you everywhere-compliment my bike and the rest is icing on the cake. But oh, what icing. At Chedd’s, a long list of different styles of grilled cheese sandwiches await you-to the extent that I had to stay back a bit to determine what I would order. I settled on the peppers and fish, which is a spicy pepper and tuna combination covered in a melty pepperjack that was delicious. Add chips and drink and you’ve got yourself a tasty lunch for under 10. I didn’t have a problem with the service. Its counter based, so they simply took my order and when it was ready they called my name. I can’t imagine expecting much more from this place, but I wouldn’t really expect much more from any restaurant where I walk up and order. This is a great spot for lunch. I’ll definitely be heading back there.

The food is outstanding. The service? Well, the first time I went there the guy taking orders actually made me feel kind of bad for being there, for wanting to order food, for interrupting his day. The guy standing behind him was blowing spit bubbles with his saliva. Ewwww. And both times I’ve been there I’ve had to stand awkwardly at the counter for several minutes because something was broken with the cash register(and none of the five people standing around offered to, say, get started on our order while they figured out the register.) But the sandwiches are super tasty, so I suppose they can afford to forgo the smiling customer service?

This is a review on Chedd’s macaroni and cheese side dish. Ehh. The mac and cheese is pretty cheap at $ 3.75 for a large and listed as more of a side dish. The large isn’t really that big but certainly enough if it is eaten with a grilled cheese. While I really like the sandwiches here I can’t say the same about the m&c. It is basic elbow mac with cheddar/american cheese that you would expect from a frozen tv dinner serving. The taste was fine but I was just thinking I would get something a bit unique from a place that proudly carries over 30 different types of cheese.

I do love Chedd’s. Yes indeed. I’m a simple girl when it comes to grilled cheese. Make mine with cheddar, avocado and tomato on marbled rye or sourdough, please. Chedd’s is a great place to get some old fashioned comfort food! I agree with other reviewers, the sides are a little different, but they aren’t bad and you can always opt for chips. Been here many, many times. Used to love go to here after a hard boxing class(not joking!), all that working out for nothing! Brought my boss here for his first grilled cheese in like 25 years. He was pleased. Go and take your time with the menu, it seems a little daunting but once you find something you like, you will no longer be overwhelmed. Be prepared to wait in line to order especially if you go between noon and 1:30 during the week. You most likely won’t find a table during those hours either. The dining area is very small. Prices are reasonable but maybe on the high end for a sandwich… I guess.

Sadly, I hadn’t noticed the… odor shall we say… before last night when I brought a friend here. The other times I have come here it has been with other college students like myslef, so I wasn’t too bothered by the run down atmosphere of Chedds. Not that it will stop me from going back. I will probably just get my sandwich to go. I really liked the Coffee House, the pesto was very tasty and meshed well with the turkey and gouda. I have had their tomato basil soup before and loved it so I ordered it last night. I totally agree with Nicole about here coleslaw, it was way funky. I think most of ther sides come from pre made packages though. They definitely don’t look homemade, but that’s ok because I’m there for the cheese. Stop in to get a delicious melty treat when you are in the neighborhood. Then go and paint some pottery while munching on your sandwich.

Gormet Grilled cheese– come on how could that be bad. And how could you expect too much besides the wondrous comfort food! We first heard about this place back in 2005. We don’t get here too often since they are pretty generous with the cheese and i’m usually watching my intake of bad stuff! I love the large amount of cheese choices! So many good cheeses! This last time we went on a Saturday. Like the other have said the staff isn’t the friendliest, but they get the job done! I went with the Tuscan moon — Peperoncino, Salami, Pesto, Mushrooms, Black Olives, on Marble Rye. Yummy! The pre-made choices are a great way to try out their wonderful options! I always try something new, hubby usually makes his own with some sort of hot and spicy cheese, pepperoni, maybe salami and wheat bread! Definitely a small eating space, but we have always been able to find a spot on weekend. The burnt grill smell was much less than the first we had visited. With the area getting more populated they should be here for ages to come!

Actually, I’ve lunched at Chedd’s twice in the past 2 weeks. I’m a fan, for sure. Comfort foods do it for me, and invariably I order the Classic with the Tomato Soup. Just in case anyone wants to visit Chedd’s website, though, I must warn you, and I have emailed them about it too: it will try to give your computer a virus! Hopefully they will get that squared away with their webmaster.

Simple and tasty. I really like the concept. The variety of choices surprised me at my first visit, but it gave me a reason to come back for number two and three. Not too much to the building itself. There is some outside seating and plenty of seats abutting the window(although not the best area for people-watching) along with some non-descript tables inside. Probably not a place to eat everyday, unless you’re on a race to a heart attack, but great for a once-in-awhile indulgence.

I’m sold. As I walked down Pearl Street I thought to myself, am I really making this three-block jaunt for a little grilled cheese? Yes, I was. I ordered the Buff Hamster. Oh. My. God. Buffalo sauce infused cheese, some extra muenster, and sliced ham. On cracked wheat. And yes, it was grilled just like mom used to make in the skillet. So amazing. The chips, cookies, and soups are also amazing as I have come to find out. If you’re skeptical, just go. Sure it’s only a grilled cheese, but I give Chedd’s props for actually turning my college snack into a profitable business. P. S. try the Coffee House. Pesto, turkey, smoked Gouda, and bacon. Ummm hello heaven!

I don’t know that Chedd’s needs a big wordy review. It is exactly what we all love. It’s grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. The thing is, this isn’t your momma’s grilled cheese. They have tons of breads, cheeses, and other items to choose from. Their tomato soup is a far cry from the Campbell’s canned tomato soup we’re all used to. They serve a lovely, peppery, tomato bisque that goes oh so well with their sandwiches. They used to have a classic on their menu called the Big Dipper. Colby on sourdough with tomato and a side of tomato soup. You can’t go wrong with this, but if you want to experiment, there’s lots of fun to be had there. I love Chedd’s. I miss it so much. Please go there for me! They used to deliver through By Jeeves, but now you’ll have to get off your booty and walk there.

I’m not sure where the gourmet is but nevertheless Chedd’s is a good place to satisfy your grilled cheese urge. Pretty straight forward on what you get. You choose your bread, meat and cheese you want. Pretty impressive list of cheeses to pick from. I have most of their cheeses stocked in my fridge! Service is fast and friendly and prices reasonable. My cheese(fontina, smoked cheddar) didn’t melt all the way which drives me nutz but it was still yummy. It’s not like my grandmas grilled cheese but definitely a place I’ll try again.

This place is probably the only sandwich shop to make me cry… literally. See, this one time I got the«heartburn», which failed to live up to the promise explicitely implied in the name. Instead, this sandwich made me the target of laughter for the remainder of the afternoon after I cried like a baby after only three bites. You think I would have guessed what I was getting into – the sandwich includes such ingredients as horseradish chedder, sauerkraut, and spicy mustard. Occasionally my half-German side gets excited at the prospect of food such as this. But this time I bit off more than I could chew(pardon the bad joke). This friggin sandwich was so spicy it could have eliminated Hitler before he even invaded Poland. Some may ask why I give Chedd’s such a high rating if they created such a horrible reaction in my taste buds. Well, I respect a restaurant that takes on flavor with such passion. Plus, the other sandwiches are pretty damn tasty. And I think they have orange soda.

Cheese, cheese, cheese, I love cheese.(Imagine this in a terrible singing voice for the correct connotation, please.) Chedd’s has so many kinds of cheese to make your grilled cheese with. For instance did you know there was such a thing as bacon cheese? I didn’t until I visited this lovely little sandwich shop. Then I proceeded to have what they call the«Oinkey» — bacon, bacon cheese, more cheese and salami. Then my heart stopped momentarily because of the arterty clogging, but I just worked past that. The seating area isn’t too big, sort of standard for a sandwich shop. The workers aren’t overly friendly, but they certainly are fast. You can also get blueberry-cheesecake milkshakes with or without malt. Yum! And if you’re from Wisconsin, don’t forget to put a pin in their map showing where you come from.

Gotta love this place on a LAZY weekend afternoon when you’ve woken up waaaay to late and it’s too much hassle to even warm up some leftovers. The ultimate comfort food, you really can’t go wrong with grilled cheese sandwiches. My favorites are the Rye Knot and the Hambricker. A pleasant surprise is the very tasty tomato basil bisque. Available for franchising if you’ve got a spare $ 200K lying around!

Review from a recent 3 day business trip to Denver. Highlights: — Great ‘dive’ feel. — Sandwich selection/variety is impressive. — Breads and cheeses all good, seem to be really fresh. — Frankly, I just love the concept and the experience doesn’t disappoint. Lowlights: — None that are fair. I ordered something that I knew wouldn’t knock my socks off(plain grilled cheese with tomato soup), and I was right. It was fine, but not necessarily better than I make at home. To get a true feel for the place and how good they can be I should have ordered one of the many unique sandwiches. I didn’t.

I have to preface this review by saying that I love grilled cheese. Not just love, really. LOVE. It’s a comfort food for me. Add some tomato soup and I’m a goner. I visited Chedd’s for the second time today. Their selection is huge and there is even the opportunity to make your own combination. Their tomato bisque is also quite tasty. All in all, a good experience. They didn’t get a 5th star because the service each time I’ve been has been so-so and pretty slow. I will, however, deal with that and return again and again to eat grilled cheese to my heart’s content.
