To be fair, I was here once. I guess I didn’t expect a ‘metal’ atmosphere but it works here. If you’re into that then it’s definitely work checking out. I, for one, was here for the beer. I liked that the bartender knew her stuff, which is expected of any brewery I go to. I tried three of their beers and the two I liked best were collaborations. In fact, only one really stuck out and that was the English Ale with the pizza place from Salida. There was also an Orange influenced beer with BoB and Krampus Ale. The latter two were just okay but the one with Salida was pretty darn good. I think it’s a good sign that they collaborate because that will only make them better. I am excited to see where they will go in the next couple of years.

Love these guys, and love that they experiment with their brews instead of going the safe route. The environment is very clean and open — perfect for groups of friends — and there’s always something interesting to try on their pints list.

A shot of Jameson with a side of au’jus…sounds crazy? Crazy delish! The pizza is also crazy good. Fun, funky atmosphere on Santa Fe. Lunchtime is much quieter than on the weekends — but it’s always a good time.

You know, I don’t love the beer. It’s ok. What I do love? The location. It has a local vibe, and the little outside area is a cozy place to settle in and hang out for an hour or two. The service is always friendly, and it feels like a place where anyone is welcome. It’s a good addition to Baker/Santa Fe Arts District, and I’ll be back for sure.

I was a little disappointed with my experience at this brewery. First, I didn’t like the atmosphere. It’s dreary, gray, and ugly. Some of the beers were ok, but none really knocked my socks off. They were out of most of the beers that we had come there to try. They serve pizza and play non stop heavy metal. I suspected that if I had the look of a metal head I would have fit in better and possibly received friendlier service.

I like several of the beers at Black Sky including the«Petal to the Metal» rose petal and hibiscus. It’s actually really good and not what you expect when you hear that description — so give it try. The staff are pretty mellow and will make some great suggestions for your palette if you ask. They do serve food including basic bar fare and pizza! They are a large enough facility to accommodate quite a crowd, so grab a group and swing by for some tasters. This is a very Rock and Roll based establishment — so if you’re a fan of the old school music and metal days stop by and check them out!

three not so small parts: beer, food, service/people. I found this brewery via Unilocal.I grew up on metal in Chicago and its scene. This place is extremely clean, open, tons of natural light. from the ‘tenders to the cooks everyone has been friendly and conversational. attentive and informative. it’s a great neighborhood gem. beer: Let me start by saying I dont go to breweries for mixed drinks or hard drinks(go anywhere and you can get a drink from a bottle) I go for the beer, I’m not knowledgeable in the crafting but I know my tastes vary and I’m not going to keep going to a place if their drinks are shit. the selections of house or guest beers have been filling and full of flavor to suit what ever attitude I have at that moment, from light to dark. I even brought home a couple of growlers and enjoyed each glass. the beers tend to be on the stronger side alcohol wise about 7−9% few less than that(4−5%). I’ve brought a few of my friends here whom are not in to metal and they had a great time, be it on the patio, spacious for the space, shady and sunny. I sat out their for hours mid afternoon finding some shade, and I’ve sat out there for a few minutes when I couldn’t but that’s Colorado life. the food, I’m a bit picky on pizza and not the hugest fan… filling, none the less, now the other side of the menu, every damn thing is really a meal. just completely delicious. while sitting at the bar, table or outside it had people ask me what I am having, in a positive way, because the aroma wafted past them. It probably had about 7 – 10 different items on the menu at this point and even got to try some of their experiments and it has been a great experience. people: seriously I see all types come through there, from the girly pop college age to the older locals. people like good beer, chill places and positive atmosphere. if you want to be catered to then this isn’t going to be your place, I would try something where that type of service is included in the price tag. but if you want a fair price and fair people walk in the door and give it a shot, say hi.

Killer brews here. Don’t be intimidated by the metal theme, the bar is hardly metal at all. Lots of seating inside. Had the Caesar salad and its was just okay, not sure how the other food is there. Worth going to if your in the area.

Here’s what you go here for: good vibe, good beers, amazing food in every pizza form possible. Here’s what you don’t go here for: the beer cheese soup. I’ll start with all the great things about Black Sky! Love the vibe in there! Feels like a garage in the best way possible! Black Sky makes their own house beers(the saison was spot on!). They also have some rotating guest brews. There is a beer for everyone here. Lots of strong IPA options, fruity flowery options, ciders and dark chocolatey beers too. Looks like they may have a full bar too! At first I thought I only saw whiskeys but I definitely saw a vodka! The menu is CHOCK full of pizza and pizza type options. There are cheesy breads(basically pizza without the sauce), calzones(basically pizza), head banger rolls(an individual sized calzone almost like a sandwich but a calzone), personal pizzas and big pizzas to share! The buffalo chicken head banger roll was absolutely amazing. You know how when the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would eat pizza, the cheese was so stringy and delicious that it would stretch super long and snap back at them? The cheese here does this. Stringiest mozza in town, folks. I’m going back to try that Clam Pizza! So excited! Do not get the beer cheese soup. Seems like its just their queso dip with a spoon and it tastes bad and is waaaaaay too salty. Everything else here is amazing and well worth 4 stars!

I am updating my review and bumping the star rating by 1 star. I stopped in recently, and saw there were a few new beers on tap, and I really, really enjoyed the Chucks IPA! I haven’t tried the others yet, but, I will definitely be back in to try them. Thank You Black Sky for trying something new, and highly succeeding with it! I can honestly say I will be back in for another beer(chucks IPA) very soon!

I only had time for a quick beer. I had the Chocolate Mint Stout. OMG!!! Out of this world GREAT! The gal beside me had one of their pizzas that looked awesome. It was refreshing to be able to order food and not have to go to a food truck. I’ll definitely be back and try one of their pizzas.

Their beer is unremarkable(if I were unkind, I would say«yucky»), but I love that they are there for the Hessian Heavy Metal set. It seems like a good gathering place for that lot. When we visited there was a patron who had been Waaaaaaay over served, and to make matters more ridiculous, he kept dropping a liquor store plastic pint of whiskey out of his pants pocket onto the floor. He needed to be cut off, for his own safety, but no one seemed concerned. I’m all for alternative lifestyles but there is a little thing called the law, and breaking it can result in losing your license and a big fat fine.

If craft beer and Black Sabbath had a spawn in the form of an establishment it would be this. The ladies behind the bar were so nice, and they werent snobby hipster, nor did they seem like they would take anyone’s shit like the typical brewery hipsters. Its greatly located near movement. I also like that they feature other breweries beers. Overall this place was kickass.

For some reason I have started to drink more beer these days. That’s where black sky comes in… Black sky is close to home and I secretly like their beers better than the other brewery down the street(hint hint, it starts with an R) My all time favorite beer is the pomegranate wheat, but they don’t have it all the time :(When they don’t have the above mentioned favorite, I like the petal to the metal. Honey usually goes for the deamonseed. The pizza is awesome. Check out the signature«black sky» can’t go wrong with pepperoni cream cheese and jalapeño. Service is good too and down to earth. They open up a side patio in the summer which fills up quickly.

We stopped at Black Sky after a Unilocal event next door at the space gallery. I had two beers, both of which were awesome. Which is great to say.. so many times i’ve tried breweries and you can taste their not good.. . Not black sky. Solid beers.. .a good few on draft, and a few guest beers While there we saw a lot of people eating pizza. The pizza looked good.. maybe next time the décor was maximum«dive» with nice amount of rock and roll and old arcade games. One step from walking onto the sons of anarchy set.. .but that was alright for our party.

Black Sky Brewery is possibly one of Denver’s most underrated breweries. I say that because I often mention them to people who don’t even know they exist, and they clearly don’t know what they’re missing. Black Sky has some incredible beers of their own, plus guest taps of other great Colorado breweries. The prices are great — you can decide if you want a taster, a 10-ounce pour or a full pint. I love the 10-ounce pours so that I can try more varieties of their delicious beer. My favorites are usually their stouts. On my most recent visit I had their Chocolate Mint and the Pistachio Chocolate Mint stouts — both incredible. If you happen to be there when they have their Blackberry stout, this is a must have(and my favorite!) This past visit I also fell in love with their Chocolate Hazelnut Porter, which is insanely good! Black Sky offers plenty of lighter offerings too, and has a delicious Saison and some great wheat beers — but their dark beers are always my favorites. Maybe it’s all the metal music, but something about this place just makes me want a dark beer. Speaking of the music, yes they are hard rock but it’s not a place that non-metal heads should avoid. The atmosphere is very open and inviting, so even if you’re more into Manilow than Metal, you can probably hang out here. As another reviewer put it, they like metal, but it’s not really in-your-face. Another big plus to Black Sky is their food. They make some incredible pizza, calzones, garlic knots and headbanger rolls(stuffed dough.) They know their dough, and have several delicious ways to serve it to you. Arrive hungry!

I must say, this place seems to get better on each subsequent visit. On my most recent visit(a bit of a beer pre-function before Unilocal Casino Night) I tried several beers, and did not dislike any of them. The Demon version with sweet potatoes and chilies was not bad at all. It had a slow, but noticeable burn that was alleviated by the overall sweetness. The hazelnut Porter and chocolate version of the same were quite tasty. And the Saison being served was a fine beer indeed. I look forward to my next visit, a couple months down the road, because if the trend continues, the beers will just keep getting tastier.

Upon entering this place, my boyfriend and I liked the atmosphere but agreed it didn’t seem all that«metal» aside from a few skull decorations and some artwork off on the wall opposite the bar. Also the music being played was not metal, it was clearly punk. I am not complaining, I am not a metal head myself. But if you are seeking out a metal bar, after going to Trve instead, Black Sky seems a little bit. lacking with it’s attempt to follow its theme. We sat down and were served right away. Service here was great. My guy got the Krampus Ale. The flavor was pretty good, but there was a slight metallic off flavor going on, and lack of carbonation. I sampled the«Pedal to the metal» which was very light and super refreshing, the kind of beer you would enjoy in the summertime. The carbonation was on point and the flavor was good. I ended up getting The Demon Phoenix. It was a green chili and sweet potato beer. This can be tricky, chili beers are hard to do and so are vegetable beers. They got it just right with the flavor, but again there was a carbonation problem. This beer had NO carbonation at all. This is unfortunate because I would have loved this beer otherwise. The spice was just right it was so good and had a beautiful aroma and color. Weary to order another beer with no carbonation and potential metallic off flavors, we opted for the guest beers. It is pretty cool they offer this here. They have some great taps of local stuff, we both got the Chocolate Shake. Always a favorite. The carbonation was correct on it and it was a nice dessert to end the night with. Glad we came in to see what it’s all about, but we don’t plan on coming back anytime soon. They still have a couple kinks to work out. A brewery this size should not be having carbonation problems with their brews or off flavors.

Good brews, reasonable prices. Definitely heavy metal themed but less in your face than TRVE. Nice place to hang out. Food was just ok.
