When I heard there was going to a BBQ Fest downtown, I was beside myself. Having moved here from North Carolina, good bbq is something I’m forever in search of and have yet to find it here. So saying I was a tad excited for this is a bit of an understatement. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the best bbq event I’ve ever been to but then again, I really can’t blame them since this was the first one put on in Denver(following the lead of the Big Block bbq party in NYC). This was downtown, right off Arapahoe and 16th Street featuring different bbq joints from around the country. They set up their tents with slow cookers in tow with a limited selection of items from what I guessed to be their regular menu. I love that they had different places from around the country since each region and/or state tends to showcase a different style of bbq whether it be molasses based sauce or more of a vinegar sauce that the meat is tossed with before serving. The prices were a little steep for what you were getting and it was cash only so that was a pain in the butt. There really wasn’t a lot of order to the event, just tents plopped down in the middle of downtown and that’s about it. I will definitely go again next year since I’m big on the pig but I hope that they amp it up with either more restaurants, entertainment or contests such as best sauce, best bbq, etc.
