Backcountry Deli is directly en route to my gym from work, so it makes a fantastic place to pick up lunch. I have always ordered ahead online, and every time my sandwich was ready right when I walked in. It’s true that they get VERY busy during the lunch rush, but I have never had to wait more than 5 minutes for them to process my order. Most recently, I thought I had processed my order online, but for some reason(likely user error) the order did not go through. I went in to pick up my sandwich that didn’t exist, and let the cashier know it was most likely my fault. I went back to my office and verified that there was no order and called to let them know. The cashier was insistent that they have the sandwich delivered to my office, even after we figured out the mistake was mine, and also knowing they typically do not deliver for orders under $ 20. I was blown away by their customer service and will highly recommend this store to anyone. On top of all of this, the food is fantastic! Everything I have had has been delicious and not doused in dressing.

Bland chicken cobb salad, bland italian wrap. Everything is fresh but it’s not worth the price.

Love love love backcountry deli. This is easily one of my favorite go-to places near my office for a quick bite. It also is a great walk for me so it gives me an excuse to get out of the office. The only con of this place is that it closes at 6pm and there are times I have been craving it at night and its closed. So all of the sandwiches I have had here are fabulous. My faves include the Dirty Bird(off menu) and the Expedition — I LOVE roast beef. All of the condiments and toppings are super fresh and the bread is delish. I have never had a bad experience. Couple quick tips: 1 — Great cookies if you like sweets. Its also perfect for that afternoon pick me up. 2 — Order online if you’re trying to get lunch at 12pm. This place gets PACKED during the lunch rush and if you aren’t going to go early or late its definitely worth the online order — and they are VERY punctual. 3 — Great place to cater from. If you need to bring in an office lunch. This place is fabulous. They literally have something for everyone and do a fabulous job. Keep up the great work! Can’t wait for my next stop in.

If I have a breakfast craving Backcountry is sure to fix that. Their menu of breakfast sandwiches is complex to appeal to any customer but also simple enough to not give you a flavor overload first thing in the morning. The sandwich size and ingredients always leave me feeling satisfied and ready to keep on trucking in the office. Every time i place an online order it is always ready for me to pick up and take back to the other office staffers that have heard i am picking up breakfast. I had the EBLT today and it was amazing but if you are feeling the need for something a bit heavier go for the Little Italy or Ranchero! Also a Blood Orange San Pellegrino goes well with any sandwich selection

Salads are noticeably fresh and healthy. Chicken Caesar Salad; Sliced chicken breast served on a crisp romaine lettuce, fresh croutons shaved asiago cheese with house caesar dressing, so good, I also got greek salad, fudge brownies and orange juice. I add this place in my to go spot, awesome destination. I’m glad I found this place, it’s my first time now and surely be back here again soon.

If you want to pay double the usual cost for a sub-par sandwich and watch it made in slow motion by a daydreaming stoner, this place is for you.

Placed an order through GrubHub for delivery. I ordered one build-your-own sandwich, a small soup, a small potato salad, and 2 San Pelligrinos; GrubHub’s estimate was about 65 minutes, which I expected. My delivery arrived in 30 minutes to cap-hill, and everything was pretty great! The sandwich was amazing, with much larger portions than I was expecting. I love the build-your-own option, and the huge selection of ingredients. The soup was a simple, but delicious minestrone that really hit the spot. Very satisfying. The only thing I’d knock them for a bit is the potato salad; it was a little bland, and could use some seasoning. TL;DR: Great soup and huge sandwiches, huge deli selection and fast(bike, so, weather permitting) delivery; will definitely stop in to check out the store in person next time I’m downtown.

Soon after I left my last review, the general manager, who was also the person I had called, texted me. She said that they had delivered my food and left it with the front desk. When the receptionist set it on the table during the five minutes we had to pick up our lunches, no one grabbed it. So, she delivered another bag with some extras and coupons in it. While that was very nice, it doesn’t change the fact that, when I called, she said she hadn’t ever received my order. When I protested, she said, «Well, I’m telling you we don’t have your order. You must have placed it somewhere else.» It also doesn’t change the fact that I had my phone on under the table in class so that I could run out and grab my food when the delivery person called. Because I’ve never once had a delivery person NOT call if they couldn’t hand the food to me personally. Until now. Finally, it doesn’t change the fact that they didn’t put my name on it. So, when all 100 people in my class rushed the table for their lunches, I had no way of knowing it was mine – even if I hadn’t spent my entire five minutes on the phone with the general manager who had zero interest in helping me until I wrote a bad review. I’m wavering between two stars because I’m irritated and three stars because the food was great – as always – and I’ve had other great experiences here before. In fact, my colleagues and I were only downtown for that class, and out of all the places in Denver I’ve been for lunch, I suggested this place. But that’s offset by the embarrassment of this epic failure making me look bad for the recommendation, so I’m going with two.

Tried the tuna sandwich which was good but not worth the price. It came to $ 10 and change for the sandwich alone. Definitely over priced for a sandwich.

I’ve been back 5 or 6 times in the past month, and the staff has actually noticeably improved. They are happier to see you walk in, great service with a smile! Still obsessed with the Ridgeline sandwich, really folks, give it a try. And now I’ve had their potato salad, which was delightful :) Side note, I appreciate that your bathrooms are clean, says a lot about a business.

I originally posted a negative comment on Unilocal for this deli. I was extremely impressed with how the owner handled my comment and he really blew me Away with his customer service. I have the deli another shot last night and my sandwich was definitely up to par and the bread was nice and fresh.

I was in town for the weekend and our hotel recommended this place — wow, this deli is fantastic! The food is great, the staff is friendly, the price is right, and the store is clean and welcoming. My daughter devoured her Sherpa and my husband loved his Dolomite. My son ordered the Pilgrim and asked if it could be made hot — which, they did without question, and it was delicious! I loved my Black Bean Chili — just the right amount of spice and perfect for a cold day. I actually asked about tasting the Curry Chickpea soup, as well, and they offered me a sample. It was also fantastic! Both soups tasted as if I had them simmering on my stove all afternoon — homemade without cleaning my kitchen! Thank you, Backcountry Delicatessen, we will definitely be back the next time we’re in Denver!

Backcountry Delicatessen is a sandwich shop located downtown, very convenient for the downtown business crowd. The sandwiches are OK, I think the hot sandwiches are much better than the cold sandwiches. I really like their version of a Cubano. However, the cold sandwiches are nothing special; I can make just as good or better cold sandwiches at home and in relatively short order. To this point, they are very slow in getting the actual food prepared. I’ve only gone in to order a single sandwich for myself, to-go, each of my visits. A couple of times while waiting for my sandwich to be prepared, I’ve actually started and finished the long article in Westword. People don’t have a lot of time to wait around for lunch, that’s pretty much why they are going to a sandwich shop. That is why I’m going to a sandwich shop. This place needs to speed it up. Finally, maybe I’m nit-piking at this point, but it seemed the person(no matter which person) they had working the register(each time I visited) seemed to have a tough time making any sort of eye contact or providing feedback that they actually got my order. Nothing personal against the staff, they are probably nice kids away from the shop, but I’m spending my money at their shop, they need to give me a little acknowledgement when I order. As a positive, and as other reviewers have pointed out, they do use good ingredients on their sandwiches and they do have a nice variety of sandwiches. They also have breakfast sandwiches.

The on-line ordering system is sublime. They will deliver to the convention center too. I order The Pilgrim and The Turkey Trailblazer both were great. I highly recommend that if you are staying at a hotel were the food is too pricey, just order your breakfast and have it delivered. Good pricing, great service.

I stopped in for brunch before a meeting around 11:30 and somehow just beat the line(it was to the door by the time I sat down!) I got a breakfast sandwich(rancheros, with chorizo and avocado!) which was good, but kind of small compared to my friends’ lunch sandwiches, where each half was as big as my whole one. Luckily I had a side of chips as well and a huge water bottle(my god Colorado is DRY.) But apart from my enormous appetite that will be the death of me, the food was delicious and came out quickly. I will definitely be back during my trip here to try their homemade soups!

I was actually really surprised by the freshness and quality of this place. I chose the«Build Your Own Sandwich» route and decided to go for a wrap with smoked salmon(extra dollar) with smoked gouda(YUM) and a load of vegetables including sprouts, field greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, avocado(extra dollar) and more and it was delicious! I wish there was more portion of the smoked salmon but I was honestly surprised by the freshness of it. Paired it with a bag of BBQ kettle chips and Pelligrino and I had a very satisfying lunch!

Met a friend for lunch here, and I LOVED it! I love the Colorado mountain/hiking theme. They have a great selection of breads, and meats for your sandwiches. Certainly a fan and will be back!

Hot Damn! ~Ham, bacon, cranberry chutney, and bre, topped with siracha aiolli, served on a HOT bagutte~ That was what drew me in as I walked on the streets of Denver, with cold winds buffeting me and temperatures barely hovering in the 20’s. I saw the whiteboard advertising THAT sandwich. While standing in line, I almost changed my mind several times. The sandwiches on their board boasted combinations of flavors I wouldn’t see at subway or Jimmy John’s, shoot… even at other Delis like nearby Heidi’s. However the cranberry chutney kept me on course. I asked the girl behind the counter if I could get two meals out of the sandwich. The skin around her multiple facial piercings scrunched up for a second as she thought, and then responded«I can get two meals out of it». OK, it might be big enough to justify the $ 9 price tag. I didn’t have to wait long to find out. 5 minutes after ordering, I had food in hand. I actually could have sat down to get my food because they call my name from across the kitchen. I didn’t know this at the time, and stood around with the folks who were waiting for their call-in orders. I got a pickle on the side! The sandy itself is smaller than I wanted, but more like what I expected. Taking the first bite though, I was impressed. The cranberry chutney, tangy and slightly hot from the Siracha, mixed perfectly with the melted, mild brie. The salty bacon packed all the flavors together and the chewy hot baguette was not too hard, or too soft, keeping all the sandwhich meat in place. What a treat! As I sat at the window bar, plunking away at my computer, I kept thinking how a well placed white board outside with some clever words, was enough to change my course from the Thai I was on my way to get. It might be a while before I come back because I was still hungry, even after I ate my full $ 9 hot damn, but it’s better than Panera, Subway, Jimmy johns, Quiznos, with originality creating sandwhich combos I haven’t seen elsewhere.
