This is my favorite place to get caffeinated, ever. I frequently crave this place. Coffee is great tasting, many different milk options, and made from scratch syrups(lavender, vanilla, mocha) to add some flavor to your drink. Hot drinks come out at the perfect temperature for immediate enjoyment. Staff is friendly and it always feels welcoming inside. Simply decorated, books, and outside seating. They have pastries from local bakeries, juice, smoothies, and tea also. They have some specialty drinks that are fun and tasty, and seasonal drink and syrup creations pop up too. Must try!

One of the best coffee shops in Denton. You can’t go wrong with any of their staples such as a doppio, macchiato, or cortado. However, what sets Shift apart is their creativity and thoughtfulness when it comes to specialty and seasonal drinks. The barristas are kind, patient and know their stuff!

One thing I love about this coffee shop, is the smiling faces. They greet you at the door and continue conversation until you’re out the door. The coffee is delicious, but the customer service keeps me coming back.

Shift Coffee, a small specialty coffee house in the heart of Denton, has become one of my favorite places in the city. Everything from the orange juice to the café environment are spectacular. Highly recommend. The moment you walk into Shift, you are greeted with aromas of professionally-pulled espresso shots and gleaming sunlight pouring in through the windows, creating a very natural, clean environment. After you experience the interior of the shop, you will likely be greeted by one of the employees. Let me get this straight: Shift Coffee has the FRIENDLIEST and MOSTPERSONABLE baristas out of any coffee shop in Denton. This alone is enough to keep me coming back to this place. Every worker I have spoken to here has been very nice, intelligent and passionate about what they do. Now, for the part that really matters: the coffee. Shift serves freshly roasted coffee beans from Avoca Coffee Roasters(located in ft. Worth). Avoca is one of the more popular roasters in north Texas and there is a reason for that. The guys at Avoca know what they’re doing. I have been drinking Avoca beans on a regular basis for months and I can tell you that they are always on point. Very good roaster. That being said, good beans are only half of the equation. The other half lies in the hands of the barista. To keep it short and simple; the baristas at Shift Coffee are highly skilled and experienced. These guys(and girls) know exactly what they’re doing. I have tried just about everything on their menu multiple times and I have never been disappointed. Lattes? Perfect. Drip coffee? Perfect. Americanos, straight espresso, pour overs, specialty drinks? All perfect. This is something I cannot say about any other coffee shop I have ever visited. I can typically point out flaws in one way or another, but not with Shift. In conclusion, this place is freaking amazing. Keep doing what you’re doing, Shift, and you’ll always have my business. In conclusion,

Basically Starbucks for hipsters. The coffee is ok but the pompous attitude was uncalled for. If you don’t display any of generic hipster fashion cues: unkept beard/hair, Where’s Waldo glasses, and the«I’m trying hard to be a local but I’m really from Dallas» flannel shirts, then do not expect to be made feel welcome. I have been in 5 times so I tried giving them a chance. My suggestion. Save your money and go to Jupiter House. The baristas there treat you like VIPs and not some kind of coffee peasant.

The baristas here clearly care about their jobs. We were greeted with a great smile and excellent service. Ordered The Hype and I definitely understand this new, hip tonic trend. I was sad they didn’t have hemp milk but I loved every sip. Please ditch your corporate coffee. I will be here to study.

I really love this coffee shop. Shift is one of the few shops in Denton that serves«artisanal» coffee without coming off as pretentious. The staff puts out good vibes and the coffee is on point every time, they really seem thrilled to be putting out a quality product.

Alright I like this place, calm, comfortable with nice, friendly baristas. Has a local Denton vibe without the noise of some of the other coffee houses in town. But it is the Quality of the coffee and the coffee drinks that makes it really stand out. I had a lavender latte, that was smooth with just the right hint of lavender so not to over power the coffee. This well maybe my new favorite coffeehouse in Denton. Now this is for the early crowd of coffee drinkers for it is only open till 7pm.

Best coffee in Denton, hands down. If you normally go to Starbucks then you need to shift your thinking to this wonderful little coffee shop. Their new location is really nice and modern. It’s very clean and has some fun artwork on the walls. It’s a great place to sit and enjoy your cup of delicious and intricately flavored joe. They have lots of milk alternatives and house-made syrups. They have tea, smoothies, and delicious looking sweets from a local bakery. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. They will take their time to answer any questions and make sure you know what all is in your drink. We ordered The Hype with hemp milk. First drink tasted a little odd, but after that I really enjoyed it. I can’t wait to go back and try some more drinks.

By far my favourite coffee spot in Denton. I wound up here by happenstance and it was pure serendipity. The staff is the friendliest(and not the fake, obligatory friendly, but genuinely personable) and extremely knowledgeable. Coffee is a big deal to me, so I want a place that takes it seriously and has the passion and love for it that I do. I am currently stuck on the lavender latte(SOGOOD… and I am not a latte girl, I love black coffee and straight espresso) but I have tried the espresso on a rough morning not too long ago and it is delicious. Hands down, the best. Do it.

The barista that greeted me has to be the friendliest I have met in all the coffee shops I have been to. Right off the bat he asked if it was my first time in(it was) and what I normally like to order. My go to is a cappuccino and the response I got was, «I would LOVE to make you a cappuccino.» Small talk while the shot was being pulled. You could tell he was passionate about what he does, not only the coffee, but in making sure the customers feel welcomed. This goes a long way with me. My cappuccino was as perfect as they come. I like the setup of their espresso station and the low counters so you can see your drink being prepared. He brought the cup and espresso shot over to where I was waiting and I was able to watch the final pour. Beautiful latte art too. Perfection all the way around.

At Shift their approach to coffee is more of a combination of art and science. Don’t be surprised when someone smells the shot of espresso they just made for you and dump it down the drain because it was not 100 percent perfect. 5 stars because their coffee is just that damn good.

Great little coffee shop off locust st. The vibe is very casual with the coffee speaking for itself. I’m actually more of a tea drinker but decided to stop in. I had a small latte and it was made perfectly. The flavors weren’t bitter, which is what im always afraid of with coffee. They was a rich undertone. I would definitely stop by again. A plus is that they have free wifi if you need it as well.

I’ve heard quite a bit about Shift Coffee, so I decided to make it my first stop of the day while in Denton. The décor is different from what I expected. Artwork that is Picassoesque adorns the walls, while front counter space reflects an area that is almost as large as any coffee bar seen at a Starbucks or other competitor coffee brand. And plus, the place is just clean, clean, CLEAN! No complaints on the product either. It is just right. Today’s visit required an expresso, to which I was informed that the portion sizes are served in double quantities, as opposed to the triple that I requested. The muffins and other snacks appear to be fresh from Shift’s subcontractor, which is a good thing. Doesn’t look like the product was removed from the sub-zero temperatures of the freezer depths at all. Customer service is outstanding, and genuinely friendly. Parking seems to be plentiful in a lot just off of Locust Street here in downtown Denton. Shift Coffee, looks like you will be my go-to place when it comes to traveling north towards the Red River from here on out!

Such good coffee and tea here! Service is unbelievably friendly and helpful; you can tell this is their passion! I suggest getting the Café Florentine, which was recommended to me by the owner: hand-brewed coffee, Ghirardelli chocolate, and hemp milk(must specify)… so much better than any Starbucks drink I’ve ever had(duh)! Also try the chai tea with hemp milk… traditionally spicy and not too sweet. New favorite spot in town.

The new location is SUCH an improvement. Shift already had my favorite coffee in Denton, but their old location felt like a free health clinic. The new place is perfect and such a cool place to stay a while and chill. Really, the iced coffee is the best in the metroplex.

Cute spot, good coffee. NOTICEPHONEREVIEW — misspelling and other weirdness likely Venue. New construction off Locust with the corner location and outside seating. The inside is sparse but clean. It does not have the highly polished design of other places like Roots. It was busy! Coffee. I ordered an Americano. The barista took the time to ask me exactly how I wanted it. Nice. It came out perfect. Tasted great. I am happily caffeinated two days in a row with a complete absence of snobbery. The search continues, but only because it is fun! Service Well. It was perfect. Happy. Friendly. Awesome! Would be 5 but the interior could use a plant or something it’s a bit sparse in there. That is getting a little picky I know. If you are still reading. Really it is a 4.5.

It’s great to have you back Shift! The new space does so much more justice to the quality of Shift than where they were before. Alright, if you love coffee, you will definitely know just how to work your way around this place. The menu is very small, which in my opinion is wonderful, because they focus on what they know works the best. When I came I tried a hemp milk 6 oz cappuccino, which was fantastic. I love cappuccinos but had never had the chance to experience one made with hemp milk. Clearly, I enjoyed it. I also tried what my friends ordered, which was a hot bhakti chai, as well as an iced toddy coffee. Both were excellent. Another thing that blew me away when I came here a few weekends ago were the incredible pastries, which they get from Hannah’s. I tried a pecan coffee cake, some lemon pastry, and also a yogurt parfait with Hannah’s AMAZING maple walnut granola. I don’t usually order yogurt parfaits in restaurants because I feel ridiculous since I can make it at home. However, this one was perfect due entirely to that granola(and the brand of yogurt they use was really good too). So I would definitely suggest getting some pastries or a yogurt parfait with your coffee. Overall, I’m so happy Shift has reopened, as it really enhances the already vibrant and ever-growing coffee scene we have here in Denton. Keep on rocking Shift!

Shift is open again, in the new Adagio Building at 519 South Locust. Their space is open and inviting to conversation or a quick cappuccino at the bar. There’s plenty of sunlight and outdoor seating, too. What’s important here is the coffee. My cortado was outstanding, the Avoca espresso delivered chocolate on the front and complex varietals on the back. On their first day back, Shift re-established themselves as Denton’s premier slow-pour coffee and espresso shop.
