Hickory Creek Dental Group and Orthodontics

The first time I went in for a consultation the doctor was rude and I had to wait forever. Then, I called to schedule getting my braces on over a month ago only to find out the week before my appointment they scheduled me on the wrong day and the orthodontist wasn’t going to be there. The only reason I found this out is because I called them to double check my appointment. Who knows if they would have bothered to tell me if I hadn’t called. I will be taking my business elsewhere even it costs a little bit more. This place has a bad location, incompetent staff, and seem to lack any care for their patients

Don’t go!!! The front office staff has no experience and makes empty, unknowledgeable promises. The office manager, Laura Hanessors hung up on me… obviously not professional. Our first problem: 1) showing up for our apt only to be told «they had no record of our apt, but we can squeeze you in an hour and a half.» This was after we confirmed our apt via their own, impersonal email system!
2) We are in a contract with their wonderful orthodontist. Six weeks later, they let her go. We are now stuck with their new orthodontist– a rookie straight out of school.
3) HANGING UP ON A CUSTOMER! CRAZY! Last night we had sleet and ice. Yesterday, we called twice to ask if we should reschedule our apt for today. Their staff confidently stated that they will be open and your apt will not be cancelled. (We had a family drive 2 hours into town to care for my sister after her surgery). Guess what? They cancelled!!! No apologies. Simply, «Yeah. Well… we can get you in on March 17.»
Hickory Creek Dental has gone way down hill in the past 4 years… Yes… much worse than Monarch Dental.
4) Their pricing always comes out on the high end when you do simple research.
It is clear that their business model is shoddy and concerned only with money… NOT PATIENT CARE. They found reasons to fire good employees and keep low level employees on staff.
Who keeps staff around that handles dilemmas by hanging up on people? Who terminates a seasoned, trusted orthodontist in order to hire the new guy with no expce and a language barrier? Hickory Creek Dental. Look elsewhere for service. Don’t go here!!!

No one likes going to the dentist, but I honestly don’t mind coming here. The staff is so friendly and Dr Davis is awesome. My appointments are always on time and the correct expectations are always set. My entire family comes here now and I will never go anywhere else. I have had cleanings, fillings and crowns all done here with minimal discomfort. They work with you on payment plans as well which is a huge plus. Highly recommend!

The worst dentist I have ever been to. The doctor himself wasn’t really caring about his patients as long as he receives the money. He numbed my wife and she was in her 9^th month of her pregnancy, after waiting a while in the room he sent one of the workers to let us know that he cannot work on her teethes today SO we should leave. We asked him to come and talk with us, unfortunately they say he is with another patient and he will leave afterward. They asked us to leave or they will call the police. OMG, we explained to them that she might deliver at anytime and we had already booked our flights to visit our families overseas in less than 4 weeks, so PLEASE do it today, he denied because it was almost 5PM!!! my wife went to the bathroom and cried hard she did not believe what she went throw. THIS IS TRUE STORY AND I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN!!!

Looks good on the surface, but unfortunately it took 2 years (and thousands of $) to realize that their business model is to do shoddy work and then reap the rewards by fixing even bigger problems down the road. Education costs money, but hopefully this can serve as a warning to others!
In detail, my first frustration was the broken filling they installed in 2010. This, in turn, turned into a $ 700 repair job in 2011. Don’t think that I was relieved to find that I was getting a refund on the original filling — that was at the very least expected. In my business, it would be expected to compensate the repair of the original mistake, not the «lesser of the two».
My second frustration, was the actual appointment itself. I was told by the doctor that it would take «about an hour» to make the cast, which it did not. In fact, it took about 2.5 hours in full. I’m sure you can understand that if I was told 2.5 in the first place, it would not have been a huge deal. But you set the expectations, and the expected was not delivered upon. My 1 hour cleaning appointment took me out of work for 6 hours in total.
My third was that I had a mistake of cured cement on the outside of the tooth, which made my tooth a dark brown color. I was told that it was «probably just dried blood» and that «it would brush off». It was not, which means that I was sent on my way with an unfinished job by either negligence, or incompetence. I do not imagine that this was the doctor’s (or assistant’s) first CAD/​CAM, as I have seen it advertised in their lobby since my first visit in 2009, which leaves one option: negligence.
After calling the office, and not getting an operator, I made an effort to drop in and get checked first thing in the morning, as the doctor had instructed me to do if I had any issues. After that I had to book yet another appointment to come in and have the job finished. That was 3 visits to the office in 3 days, solely out of their negligence.
My fifth and final frustration to this point, was the final bill I received for the balance, equating to the discount I received due to the broken filling! Unreal.
From my perspective during this chain of events, they tried to take me for all that you possibly can.
My wife and I have spent THOUSANDS of dollars out of pocket (not even including insurance) with Hickory Creek Dental since 2009. We both had enjoyed the office and people until we started seeing new faces every time we went. I wasn’t visited by the same dentist twice… the same tech, yes — but not the same dentist.
After my wife and I both had a similar experience of having their work going bad in 1 year, then causing big money repairs, it’s clear that they’re taking advantage of folks.

I hadn’t been to the dentist in years and I was a nervous wreck walking into Hickory Creek Dental. If I would have known that a dental visit could be so easy and painless, I would have made my appointment years ago. Every single person in the office was so kind, and Lisa the Dental Assistant even had me laughing during my root canal. Who would have thought that a dental visit could be fun! Before finding Dr. West I had a consultation with a dentist in Frisco that made me feel terrible about the extensive work that I needed done. Needless to say I didn’t return. While at Hickory Creek, Dr. West not only made me feel comfortable, but he was encouraging. He said it can all be fixed and that we would get everything back on track. He talked to me about my options, listened to my concerns, and created a treatment plan. I left feeling hopeful and happy. I’m also impressed that they have the latest technology and laser equipment. I truly cannot say enough great things about Hickory Creek Dental.

A voicemail today from Hickory Creek Dental reminded me I had yet to write a review of their services. Hickory Creek was following up with an appt I had with them in January.
I scheduled my appt as a new client so I was going to need X-​rays and cleaning. My wait can be divided into waiting for services — 45 minutes to an hour, 15– seeing the dentist, 15−20− in Xrays, 15– for cleaning. Half my time was spent waiting. They were training a new x-​ray tech to take images and while I understand she needed the experience I had to go through the process twice for each picture because she had to redo almost every shot and the woman who trained her walked away from the room many times and then came back to inspect the girl’s work, that’s when she had to be instructed to start over again. I would have felt more comfortable if she stayed and observed the girl being trained the whole time.
At this point I was wasn’t letting that or the wait get me down. Sometimes you have to wait for good service, unfortunately, good service is not here.
This establishment is all about how much money they can get out of you. The dentist stated to me that I needed to get in as soon as possible for a cavity and she thought a root canal could be avoided but there was still a chance once she got in to fix it. She stated overall my teeth looked good. Then I met the billing lady. Wow. She disregarded what the doctor stated and kept trying to get me to immediately setup an appt for a root canal. I informed her what the dentist told me and told her I was a college student and I would like to see a breakdown of the cost first. The wait for cleaning was getting a little ridiculous at this point and I told her I may have to reschedule the cleaning for another date since I worked night shift. She «cutely» told me I could nap in the chair while waiting. She kept saying a little longer and I realize she was probably afraid I would leave and she wouldn’t be able to charge my insurance for a cleaning. After she «worked her magic» to get me in sooner for a cleaning (even though I made an appt for cleaning and xrays) I was then made to feel that apparently I have the teeth of someone who has been smoking crack for 20 years. I guess the dentist doesn’t know much. I was then brought a potential bill for a root canal with no mention that the doctor said this could possibly be avoided. At this point I was stressed and tired. The doctor came into the room and she was sweet, seeing that I was obviously stressed by the amount of money all of this would cost even with insurance. She turned to the billing lady and said, «I know what it’s like to be in college, try to cut her a break.»
That’s when it hit me that this place is about how much money they get from a client. The billing lady continued to show me the same plan. I asked her about the different products they used but she refused to show me stated, that I would only want the quality (more money) ones she recommended. THIS IS ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW, YOU ARE NOT A CARED FOR PATIENT, YOU ARE A DOLLAR SIGN AT HICKORY CREEK. I can’t believe I wasted my insurance on this visit. Does anyone know if I can get my Xrays and bring them to somewhere else who actually sees a patient not a dollar. Why does a billing person have more say than a dentist. As sweet as the dentist was, makes me think she wasn’t that good if the billing lady and cleaning tech act like they know more. What’s crazy is my coworker has the same insurance/​base plan and visited another clinic in Denton and had a root canal for a cavity and insurance covered it totally!!! I was quoted around $ 1500. It all depends on who does billing.

The folks at Hickory Creek Dental have been wonderful over the past several months during which time I have needed extensive work. My wait times have been next to nothing and only long when I arrive to early. Any issues with insurance they have helped me work thorough and not left it to me to figure out. Cant say enough about Tracy and Manny.

Update– the office saw my review on here shortly after I posted it and it prompted them to reach out to me to offer an apology and willingness to treat me. While I don’t feel that this is the right place for my business but it was an interesting approach that they tried to rectify the situation– just a little too late. Hopefully they have changed their processes and others wont have the same experience.

Two things marred my experience.
First, I called ahead of time to let them know that my son was having pain in his tooth. I was assured that they would be able to help me so waited two days to get in for an «emergency» appointment. Once we were seen, we were informed by Dr. Schwartz that he needed a root canal and that they could not perform it at that location.
Then, I waited another hour in the waiting room while I thought the office was attempting to schedule an appointment at a location that could help. Instead, I found they had simply contacted my insurance company for a list of providers. This was a list that I could have easily pulled myself using my phone. This kicker was that it had been faxed to them 30 minutes earlier but wasn’t given to me until I asked about it.
I left, 1 hour 47 minutes later with my son still in pain, three paper copies of x-​rays, and a faxed copy of dentists that also take my insurance.

I went to this Dentist office because they took my insurance. This was my first time there. The staff/​front office was very nice. On the other hand, Dr Perry/​her didn’t care much. I waited for 2 HOURS !!! in the room waiting for her ! When she came finally… she spent 5 minutes and left ! and sitting there again. Waited another 10 minutes, finally I got up went to the front office and asked if I was ever going to be worked on. They told me that they are going to reschedule me another day !!! for my teeth cleaning. Dr Perry was unprofessional and did not care one bit about her patient. It was a wasted day and time I sat for NOTHING !!! I could not believe it. They seemed to not be very apologetic at all. If you want to see someone who is nice and cares request Dr Chan.

Simply the best. Everyone was professional, on time, precise and I felt genuine care for me as a patient. Dr Chan took his time to explain all aspects of the procedures, from medical, financial and personal perspective, than executed his work admirably and with utmost care and excellent skills. Five stars with Kudos, definitely recommended!
