Delta Grocery is a staple in Delta. You can stop in for a soda or snack, catch up on the community gossip… err…news, and maybe even find a little nostalgia. They even deliver to the elderly members of the community. One time(in the 90s) when I was in there I found some powdered hair shampoo from the 60s so you didn’t have to wash our your style. By now it may eat your hair, so beware. At one point I was biking nearby and fell against a brick building, getting a gash in my head which needed stitches. Dixie and then mayor Harold fixed me up and kept me grounded until my mother and sister showed up. We used to get all of our penny candy, comics and treats from Gladys and Dixie and they used to have a deli that sold cold cut sandwiches. It was really fun to watch the chicanery on bread delivery day. And on one occasion when my sister and I were there a lady returned a box of macaroni saying there were bugs in it. Dixie calmly replied that when boiling it they simply come to the top of the water so you can skim them off and quipped how she fed it to her husband all the time. If you’re passing through Delta and need nostalgia or a snack(be sure to check the dates on the package), head into Delta Grocery!
