Myself and a couple friends went to the Mt Zion Steak&Shake tonight 10-23-2015 @ around 5pm. There was quite a dinner rush going on, but we were seated promptly with little to no wait. Our server was quick taking our drink orders and generally pleasant when handling our somewhat complicated orders. The entire reason we went to SnS was to get 7×7’s — 7 burger patties, with 7 slices of cheese. If you havent had one, i highly recommend them. Food arrived promptly and steaming hot. Everyone enjoyed their meal. I cant stress how great the 7×7’s are. The cheese is pretty much completely melted in to the meat patties into a gooey mess of goodness. Its like the immaculate conception in cheeseburger form. Also of particular note, the management at this SnS was exceptional. More than once i saw the manager take the time to walk around the restaurant and ask every single table how their meals were, and if there was anything he could do to make their experience any better. So kudos there SnS Management!

I have been to many steak and shakes in my time but this one takes the cake. I ordered a plain double steak burger with cheese fries. I got a soggy single steak burger with everything and some chewy cold fries. Why steak’n shake ! I have 30 min to go on lunch to get this food. If I wanted to get this kind of food I would go to McDonald’s across the road and pay half the price! I will post pictures so everyone cans see what I’m talking about.

If you enjoy over-hyped garbage, cooked by careless drop-outs, with tiny, pathetic excuses for fries, day-old chilli and being surrounded by north-end, loudmouth drunks while you dine on said garbage, BYALLMEANS! Go to this dump.

I have been to this particular Steak and Shake twice and both times I was disgusted. The restaurant is dirty, they don’t have any pride in their service or food and they orders are almost always incorrect. The last time we went through the drive through, we got a guacamole burger for my husband. When he opened the burger, we found only a patty with half an old avocado on top. I was so angry I nearly went back to the store to demand a refund. They messed up half of our order and the food was under quality. I have half a mind to contact their superiors and get this store restaffed or closed down. It’s not a place you want to go to eat. I am only being honest about my experience. It is completely possible that I hit this store during both worst possible times, but with the state it was in both times, I seriously doubt it. I will not be back.

This was one of the better steak n shakes I’ve ever been to! We came right in with 5 people to order take out and they served us right away. The food came out great and swiftly. Everyone had a smile and they were slammed.

I absolutely love going here and ordering their double cheeseburger, french fries, and side salad. Great customer service, very clean, and consistent food. Very accommodating in adjusting orders and adding things that are not part of the original menu.

Steak N Shake likes to present itself as a fine, upscale fast food place, but it’s by far my least favorite fast food spot in all of Decatur. Unfortunately, they’re usually the only place open once it gets late, so I’ve had the misfortune of giving them business on numerous occasions strictly because I was starving and there was nowhere else to go. I’ve gone here at least 15 times in the past three years and I always regret it every time. Not only are their prices more expensive than local competitors, but their burgers are so greasy it makes me sick and the patties smell like wet dog. The place is always packed it seems(presumably because it’s the only place open after 11 P.M.) and there’s always a long wait. On the plus side, the reason for the wait is because they make their burgers fresh right when you order them. Unfortunately, the burgers aren’t nearly good enough to justify said wait. My last order was about two months ago and it was the last straw. I got a chicken melt, a patty melt, and a turkey club. After waiting around 30 minutes in the drive-thru(there was a huge line on this particular night), I was dismayed to see that the chicken in the chicken melt felt like pure rubber — bland, tasteless, inedible garbage that looked more like a dog’s chew toy than a piece of meat edible for human consumption. After taking two bites of it, I threw it away and decided to try the patty melt. I took one bite of the patty melt and almost spit it out all over my dashboard. For whatever reason, the bread tasted like toothpaste. I’ve tried the frisco and chicken melts before and have never had this problem with those sandwiches, so I guess the patty melt has a special kind of disgusting bread. I’m not being hyperbolic here either, it literally tasted like someone had squirted toothpaste into the bread mix, baked the dough, and sliced off a few pieces of toothpaste-flavored bread to make this sandwich with. Lastly, I tried the turkey club. There’s no way they can possibly screw this up, right? The picture on their menu showed a nice-looking sandwich with what looked to be fresh, quality sliced turkey meat(the same kind of turkey meat you’d find at a good deli.) Not surprisingly, the actual sandwich was nothing like what was pictured. Instead, I got slabs of cheap, circular, processed turkey meat like what you’d find in an Oscar Meyer package. Actually, that’s a huge insult to Oscar Meyer because their turkey meat is far better than this. If you like that sort of meat, that’s fine by me, but I don’t believe in paying $ 6 for something that could easily be made at home for 1⁄6th of the cost. I also don’t believe in SNS labeling their meat as «Oven-roasted turkey» when it should really say«processed crap taken straight out of an old Oscar Meyer package.» Other than that, the lettuce was weird-tasting and the turkey was so paper thin I could barely taste it. It was basically like eating a lettuce sandwich. I ended up throwing all three sandwiches in the trash. That ordeal pretty much sums up the Steak N Shake experience in a nutshell. Oh, and their breakfast is awful too. The hashbrowns are so greasy, they soak through their wrapping and the bag itself. I felt like I was on the verge of having a heart attack when I ate those.

They don’t have these things anywhere near Maine or Virginia. Did you know that? I know that, because I moved from central Illinois to both of those places, and missed Steak n Shake for years. Hell, I’m even a vegetarian now. You know the only thing that makes me sad about being a vegetarian? The only thing I miss? Chili macs. As a matter of fact, the last time I was in Illinois, I made myself ill by enjoying a few.(When you skip eating meat long enough, your body doesn’t do well dealing with it.) Totally worth it. Back here again, visiting family. Thinking of ruining nearly year long no-meat-streak. Yep. Going to grab some pepto for dessert.

Breakfast. Staying at a Hotel. BESTHASHBROWNS ever. We didn’t realize Steak N Shake had such good and reasonable breakfast menu and unlimited coffee.
