I’ve driven by this place many times, I finally decided to drop in and check out their menu. The location is great, and I love the old school look of the place. It’s small, but it has some seating on the inside, and nice tables on the outside. I looked over their menu, I was happy to see that they had some vegetarian options. A veggie pita, and grilled cheese, is all I can remember at the moment. The prices are a bit high. I was the only costumer in the place and I was completely ignored by the cashier. No hi, how are ya, nothing. And she was standing right by me. So I walked out. Maybe I’ll go back at a later date and try some food.

I was craving a thick deli sandwich, a Reuben to be specific, and my friend suggested one of her favorite places, Mati’s Deli. We came right before the lunch rush but despite that, there was still a long wait and significant congestion(and chaos) at the order counter. The deli featured old-fashioned flooring, a wrap-around counter with bolted-down stools and a number of small tables. By the time we finally placed our order, a corner table opened up. As a restaurant, it would be considered small but as a deli, it is quite sizable, and during warmer months, outdoor seating is available. I ended up with the Ellen’s Choice, a corned beef sandwich topped with nutty Swiss cheese and yummy coleslaw on soft but crusty bread. The corned beef was flavorful with just the right amount of fat; I had planned on having only half but I could not resist and ended up gobbling up the entire thing in one sitting. Nine hours later, I am still full and cannot even contemplate dinner. The cheesecake brownie was a disappointment, though. It was dense and dry and the cheesecake filling was oddly gummy. My friend recommends the cookies here and the New York-styled cheesecake looked amazing. The next time, I plan to order the same sandwich — why mess with a good thing? However, if time permits, I plan to have it grilled for a perfect sandwich. Note, you can order ahead for pick-up, significantly reducing wait times.

Drove past this place a millions times and finally stopped and picked up some lunch. Small indoor space with some outdoor seating. Pretty busy place during lunch time. People were in and out non stop. Mostly business casual people. Decent size menu. Typical deli items including sandwiches, slaw, potato salad and soups. The sandwich I had was OK. It reminded me of the days when you have nothing to eat. So you raid the fridge and make a sandwich out of whatever you have in there. Slap a little BBQ on it with some week old, stale bread. Again it was OK. Just seemed very bland. The lady at the front counter was really friendly. Line made its way out the door behind me. I stood there for about 15 min before it was my turn and there was only 2 people in front of me! They need a second person up there during lunch. I’d probably stop in again and give them another try with a different sandwich.

If the owner treated his employees better maybe they would be so upset looking. Been in their a bunch of time and his is so rude

There’s something about Mati’s sandwiches that make them better than everybody else. The rueben is amazing. The price is a bit high on the high side, but based on how busy this place gets, I’m guessing it’s not that big of a deal for most. Please stay open for dinner!

I’ve been coming here regularly for years. The sandwiches are very good. I learned a while back though that the soups are too salty and the salads rather mediocre; they use iceberg lettuce primarily which is unacceptable . The woman who takes your order is great and always is happy to explain the menu. The staff preparing the food is in direct view behind the ordering counter and always look bitter, or angry. It’s an odd juxtaposition considering how friendly the woman taking the order relates. There is seating inside and limited seating outside.

Please replace the short woman who waited on us today. She is surly, unfriendly and must really hate her job. In fact, no one working smiled or seemed to enjoy what they were doing. Sandwiches were good but ruined by a bad customer service experience. UPDATE: Lou, the owner, called me to apologize about the service I received. The fact that he reads the reviews and responds is enough for me to go back. The food was great and I am confident Lou will address the service issues.

I come here at least once every couple weeks. It’s sort of expensive but they have a AAA discount which is cool and the sandwiches are massive! You can easily get 2 meals out of one. And they come with a pickle, the fresh ones are my favorite. I avoid this place at all costs around 12pm there is usually a line out the door. I recommend the jerrys club, turkey works, or Ellen’s temptation. The uncle Louie’s bbq is also pretty good. Everything is super fresh and locally sourced I’m pretty sure. And of course the brownies are amazing. So are the cookies believe it or not. And the broccoli cheddar soup is A1.

Love this place! Fresh well made food. Love their tuna melt the Good bye Charlie and the Chicken deli wraps. The only soup I had tasted like canned chicken, so I didn’t order again, instead I go for the potato salad. Love the cookies. Love the ambiance especially the Edward Hopper Nighthawks inspired painting. Love that you can order online, and pick it up in 20 minutes. Neighborhood gem!

Love the Ellens– corned beef, dressing, cole slaw. I get it every time, but will be trying the chicken salad next time upon a recommendation! I also want to try the cream cheese brownies after reading this review!

I’m with the underwhelmed group regarding Mati’s. The location is great, off the beaten path in Dearborn and they have a cool old school vibe. The staff was great! Friendly, accommodating and they kept things moving. Unfortunately, the downside was the food. It was… OK. The pastrami was a little fatty and didn’t have much flavor. The corned beef didn’t have that typical sweet the good stuff has, and also didn’t have much flavor. The chicken noodle soup… Not much flavor. The bread was good and you could have a heel with your soup. All in all, not bad, but I’m not sure I’ll go back.

Ordered a chicken salad sandwich on a kaiser roll and the bread was stale. Pickle was mushy too. Disappointed!

Terrible. Dry. Overpriced. The bread crust literally cut the top of my mouth. They nickel and dime you on toppings($ 1 extra for lettuce and tomatoes). I paid $ 9 for an awful roast beef sandwich. Don’t go here. This place needs to go.

A great little deli with cheap delicious food. The only reason I am not giving them 5 stars is because the place is a bit cramped, but if that doesn’t bother you than the place will be a 5 star experience for you. Also make sure to get your AAA discount!

Excellent sandwiches, but the wait and the small/awkward seating loses a star.

Classic deli style sandwiches at their finest. I love the Rueben, I opt for it on a grilled onion roll, to die for! The turkey club is also a favorite as well as the chicken salad with honey cup mustard. It’s all good! Be sure to try a Knish when you go. They usually have them hot and ready, to the right side of the register.

I was sad to hear the Cole slaw is bought not made at the shop. Wait for a sandwich was about 15 minutes.. Two sandwiches and two drinks were 17 dollars. The sandwich pulled pork special came on a warm bun with a side of BBQ sauce and a pickle. I’d have prefer the sauce was warm instead of recently refrigerated. The sauce was tasty more sweet with a hint of smoke. The meat was bland the bun was great as was the pickle. All and all food was a 3 out of 5. The restaurant was quaint. The eating surfaces were clean but the other decorations had a layer of dust. Between the counter and windows was a gap with cob webs and dead insects. 2 out of 5.

We were in town for a wedding and needed a fast lunch between events. A quick Unilocal search landed us at Mati’s Deli. I was really impressed with this place. I had the Carol’s Temptation and my boyfriend had the club. Both were excellent, but the Carol was grilled which made it even more delicious. Mati’s was quick, high quality, and cost less than the greasy Wendy’s we had on the way home the next day!

Excellent sandwiches with interesting ingredients. Not your run-of-the-mill deli; you can get bean sprouts or avocado on your sandwiches. They have a set of named sandwiches where the ingredient mixture is just right! It is a bit on the expensive side for a small deli… plan to spend $ 9 or $ 10 for a sandwich, chips, and a drink. Well worth the money, in my opinion. Be sure to order online before you go! Your sandwich will be ready when you arrive, and the last time I checked, they give you a free brownie with your order if you order online. :)
