I haven’t been here in a few months but I drove by and remembered how«blah» the experience was and had to review. It was particularly disappointing as my friend and I were very excited at the thought of a child-friendly café. It was an overall bland experience and I have no intention of returning. The coffee was old and no better than Folgers in a drip machine. The«play area» was a pad on the floor with some books on a shelf. The walls are decorated so I guess that’s why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1. Basically this place over sells itself by quite a bit. It is over-priced and below-average quality food and drink. I can’t really comment on the staff as I only saw them for a minute to order and then a minute to pick up.

It’s okay. Lunch food is good, not great. Portions are a little too small. Big and clean place with room for children to play.

I love Roo’s. It’s a great neighborhood café, brilliant idea for parents, and lovely post-workout smoothie spot. I’m giving it 4 rather than 5 stars because it’s not always open on the weekend — only when there’s a party. I think they could get good business from working parents on Saturdays.

Small business run by the owner. Custom food requests based on allergies met with gentle perfection. Free WiFi and a conference area that easily and comfortably seats 25 with a large whiteboard. Limited menu but all locally sourced and made with care. Personal service with a smile! ! So rare these days!

This place is great! Really good coffee and really great sandwiches. The Bahn Mi sandwich and the turkey pesto are amazing. Service is good, the staff are really sweet and aim to please. On a hot day the watermelon lemonade is very refreshing.

Thai iced tea? No. More like pumpkin juice. I asked her where the cream was. And it «got mixed when she put the straw in»

Great local place! Roo is awesome and begins to know her customers by name. I’ve ordered the bacon avocado panini(added pesto sauce) and an Italian job panini. Both are delicious! Also tried the popeye punch smoothie, yummy! Can’t complain about anything!

I love this place! The food is excellent. It’s a little more expensive than what you’d pay at a chain restaurant, but I feel like the taste and quality of the food are well worth it. Everything tastes fresh and healthful. It tastes like what you’d get at an upscale restaurant but without that imposing atmosphere; it’s very casual and relaxed, which I feel is a better fit for Davis. I don’t normally write reviews, but I feel like this place needs more attention. I recommend the Turkey Club Wrap!

This is a cozy place and staff is very friendly. But since I eat only chicken, I don’t get much options here. Still I love the Chicken Banh Mi(the only chicken dish: P) and in a week at least once I visit there to have it. :)

Fun place and kind people. Normal prices. They have a great mentality, they open at 8 but we showed up early and they happily whipped us up some drinks Outdoor and indoor seating both very comfortable.

I’ve eaten here SO many times. The food here is good, Roo takes the time to put together really differently from your average sandwich and salad. I really like her bistro beef panini. I’d only recommend it if you enjoy a nice kick that nicely clears your sinuses. The only suggestion is have to improve this place is the portions. I have eaten a sandwich many times here, and often, I’d get hungry maybe two or three hours later. Roo is very sweet. She remembers a lot of her customers and works with me to alter any sandwich whenever I have a weird craving. Once I had a strong craving for mustard, she managed to alter one of her sandwiches to have the mustard fit in very well. It’s a nice local place to try out.

Very nice café, but no longer a great place for kids. I stopped by this morning with my two-year-old because of the play area photos posted by a previous reviewer five months ago, only to discover that most of the play area has been turned into regular seating and tables. There are no longer any mats, play structures, or big play things. There are some kids books, and a few small toys… That is it.

A great place to get in some free time while your kids play! I’m a UC Davis student with a 2 year old and have a hard time finding time to study. Roo’s café offers a play area for babies and toddles and a café/coffee shop for parents. They have a great variety of healthy foods as well as a kids menu at a good price. I’m able to take my daughter here while I get some studying in and she just runs around a tires herself out. It’s super clean and kids are required to sanitize hands before entering as well as wear socks. Just wish there were more kids for her to play with. I came around 12 on a Monday and it was pretty slow. But she still had a lot of fun. Great prices for a poor college student also ;) a great alternative to an expensive day care or babysitter.

I’ve been trying to go to every restaurant in Davis at least once but I never knew when I’d get a chance to come here mainly because I thought the entire restaurant was just a place for parent’s to grab lunch while their kids played. But in fact I was pleasantly surprised by my experience. The place is basically a typical café but with a play area. On a Friday at noon the place wasn’t too packed but every table did have at least one person. I would say, if you were a student, don’t be afraid to come in and study for a bit. The atmosphere is actually fairly welcoming(though there are more kids around than the typical café). I was actually pleasantly surprised by the food too. The place has a typical café kind of menu(sandwiches, smoothies, coffee). I got the Italian Job and a small Popeye smoothie. The service was nice and very fast. The smoothie was alright. I’m not a big smoothie person but I wanted to give it a try. However, I LOVED the Italian Job sandwich. It’s not something hard to make but it was fairly cheap, decently filling, and it was just a good combo of fillings. I don’t live close to this area but if I did I would definitely consider coming here more. Maybe I’ll even try studying here next time.

I love this place. I work in Davis(I do not bring my kids to work in Davis with me — so); I was reluctant to visit this playground in a café. I wish I would have went sooner!!! The food is quite delish. I am always looking for healthy but fast food options and Roo’s Café nailed it. the use only the freshest ingredients. I love their smoothies and breakfast sandwiches. There is indoor or outdoor sitting. A great place for everyone to enjoy!
