Interesting. P. S. They have this at Davis’s farmers market I got the sweet potatoe thai tea. Some people taste thai tea while some claim to only taste sweet potatoe. I only tasted thai tea, but it was the bitter kind. So I wasn’t in love. thought I was at first lick. But, the girls were nice who serve me and answered questions on where to get these babies!

Fat Face has a cute pig sign on their forefront mobile truck. Fat Face has interesting popsicle flavors. My boyfriend and I had the Thai Tea/Sweet Potato & Coconut/Strawberry popsicles. It’s a little pricey for Popsicles($ 3 ea), but it does make up for its interesting flavors. Thai Tea/Sweet Potato tasted just like Thai Tea drinks. I didn’t taste the sweet potato part, but the Popsicle was extra sweet. Coconut/Strawberry popsicle was an interesting but delicious combination. It’s difficult to explain, but I literally tasted both coconut and strawberry separately. I would like to try the other flavors they have.

Ice cream, popsicles included, usually scare me away when I think of the calories lurking beneath those glistening, smooth surfaces, but Fat Face hooked me in with one bite. Being an unconventional ice cream eater, I don’t lick at popsicles, but perhaps this was perfect for these tasty treats. Each small bite delivered overwhelming deliciousness to all corners of my mouth, and to really get both Mango and Sticky Rice in one go, you’ve gotta nibble. Rice might sound weird, but if you dared to try it, you’d know that this popsicle is the way to go. Had the fortune of trying Strawberry Basil, Thai Tea + Sweet Potato, Plum + Unknown, and Mango + Sticky Rice at OTG Fort Mason and Eat Real Fest(not altogether! Though I am a true Fat Face :}), and loved every one. Really wanted to take some home with me, because they are yummy, flavorful, tangy, sweet, juicy, and potentially some of the healthiest ice cream I will ever have.(No idea about nutritional facts, but they didn’t clog a heart valve, so that’s a thumbs up!) Somehow, they’re both light and full of flavor, and just the right portion size. The unique ingredient combos definitely pack the perfect punch and will seriously make any dessert-lover happy. I love traditional dairy, creamy ice cream products, but would pick Fat Face over them any day! Note: this business was up and bustling at OTG Fort Mason just two weeks ago, so they are not closed for good! Their facebook page says they’re there every friday, so there’s hope :)(Might just be a location change in Sac, not sure, sorry!)

My new favorite popsicle! I got to try these popsicles for the first time at the Eat Real Festival in Oakland. The popsicles taste just like the fruit and are very flavorful. So convenient to eat these yummy treats on a stick. We tried the strawberry basil lemonade which was sweet and tangy, and the peach mango ginger popsicle — interesting and tasty. I wish they sold these in bulk because they’d be a staple in my freezer. They’re sold at the Davis Farmer’s Market, so if I ever visit I’ll be sure to come on a Wednesday or Saturday. Can’t wait until I get to eat these again.

If the place is indeed«CLOSED», it would hardly come as a shock. $ 3 for one goddamn popsicle. And I’ve been amazed that the frozen yogurt places stay in business. Stupefyingly incredible.

Is this place closed? I had Fat Face popsicles at SactoMoFo, specifically the kiwi mango one — absolutely delicious. My friend had an avocado one and he loved it too. I’d love to try the strawberry basil lemonade sometime! Just received notice: «Fatface will be reopening in Sacramento on 19th St and S St. across from the Safeway. It should be open within a month.»

I’ll admit it… it was hard to even make the effort to try this place. It has crummy hours. It’s located all the way in Davis. And really… when was the last time there was a good gastronomic reason to visit Davis other than Sudwerk beer(only beer) or friends in Davis refused to drive to Sacramento? Then came Fat Face. The Cubano is simple and fantastic. The smoked ham is sliced thin, flakey tender, and adds most of the salt. The roast pork is sliced on the thick side, generous portion, and a tender, but not too tender, texture. The house made pickles are on the lighter side — not too vinegary. What makes the Cubano here though is the bread… it’s not pressed as firmly or for as long so it’s toasted softer than most Cuban pressed sandwiches. It’s a texture I prefer to standard Cubans. Have also been able to try the Brandy Poached Pear pop. Light, slightly slushy, very refreshing. All the flavors are there, distinct, but not loud. Hope the next time I’m there they have Plum and Green tea ones. And I always have a special place in my heart for establishments that serve Dublin Dr Pepper. Imperial Cane Sugar! Staff here is super friendly and helpful. They have a rotating fourth sandwich, and I’m disappointed I wasn’t able to make it back while they had their smoked salmon sandwich. They let me try some of the smoked salmon, even though I had ordered a Cola-braised Pork sandwich at the time, and it was delicious. Oh, and don’t be put off by the fact that this place is in a warehouse in Davis. You’d be surprised how much a great food place in a warehouse classes up this one-horse town.

Who would think that there is such a gem like Fat Face in Davis?! I have only tried their popsicles, but none of their sandwiches! Also, they are expanding to Sacramento. They will only sell popsicles in Davis now. no more sandwiches :( Strawberry Basil Lemonade: sweet and tangy. the basil adds a nice touch in the end and makes the popsicle not too tangy. Thai Tea and Sweet Potato: Yum! But I feel like the sweet potato can be a little too much! I rather just have a Thai tea popsicle Lime & Avocado: ALL lime! Cant even taste the avocado at all! I know I have tried another one before… but I cannot remember the name of it. it was very very good too! When I find out the name of it, Ill update this! If youre in town or before you graduate, HIGHLYRECOMMENDFATFACE, rain or shine! Enjoy! :)

Small place. We’re talking 2 tables. one that seats 6 and the other seats 4. And. a bench. Pigs and popsicles appear here and there. Cash only. Sandwiches. Chips. Bottled beverages. House Iced Tea. POPSICLES! So, I like that most sandwiches are available full or half order. You order at the counter and when you’re food is ready, it’s brought to you.(I love the Cola Braised Pork Sandwich.) The popsicles– a bunch of different flavor combinations. Gotta try them. They keep in the freezer/plastic wrapped. and when it’s ordered, they maneuver the plastic off and hand you the stick side to pull. Lovely! I would be perfectly happy if you just handed me the pop covered but that extra step on your part– I can appreciate. There’s a row of parking you can turn into off of L Street but it’s a hassle because you have to back out of it so if you can– just park on the street.

I have had the smoked salmon($ 8) and the cubano($ 9) sammiches. I preferred the cubano. The owner and sammich crafter Jaymes has a good sense for finer and more detailed flavors; she knows how to make all the elements in a sammich or a pop stand out(yet still blend together perfectly) and she knows what each ingredient brings to the figurative table. The cubano was pressed and toasty. It was perfect for a chilly winter quarter day. The sammich builders never hold back from piling on lots of yummy smoked ham. I thought the combination of apples with smoked salmon worked very well on the other sandwich. This sandwich was served without being pressed and was still very delicious. Fat Face is definitely quality over quantity. It seems to be a harder place to sit down for an extended period of time, mulling over the food with friends. Just because of how much food you get. Don’t get me wrong, the food is about as good as it gets; it just seems like most people get their food to go(the place IS pretty limited in its seating, though). I think people should slow down a bit, enjoy the butcher paper and crayons, and slowly work on their sammiches. There is much to appreciate. The pops were good too

After what felt like an eternity, I finally found Fat Face.(When my friend first mentioned this out-of-the-way restaurant, I remember thinking, «Wait, what did you just call me?!» But I digress.) There’s a small parking lot on the side that can fit just about five or six cars and you can also park on the streets without fear of having your car towed. If only I had known that –before– I parked a block away. You don’t have to wait long at all(at most, seven or eight minutes) before getting your sandwich on toasted bread. I tried the cola braised beef sammich with Jess G. and, let me tell you, that sandwich made my stomach one satisfied organ. There was plenty of pork inside, marinated to a delicious tenderness, and all I could do was keep grabbing napkins because its juices kept on leaking out! The next time I visit, I would love to try either the BLP(where the ‘p’ stands for peaches!) or the sliced BBQ brisket sandwich. I wish Fat Face was open every day! The popsicle flavors were definitely one of a kind, and I had to try the the Thai tea and sweet potato one. It was love at first lick(because who doesn’t love Thai tea?!) but unfortunately the love fizzled out when the popsicle started having this strange, chalky flavor that I can only attribute to the sweet potato. Perhaps Jaymes’ popsicles are an acquired taste, but I certainly won’t be getting it again. In any case, I would love to visit Fat Face again until I’ve tried all of their sandwiches. It really gives the phrase, «Make me a sammich!» a whole new delicious meaning.

The sammiches are DELICIOUS!!! My friends and I tried the Cola Braised Beef Sammich and it was über delicious! The pork was was tender and not tough whatsoever. It was full of flavor and juice. The sammich was so juicy that the juice was just shootin’ out everywhere every time I took a bite. I needed lots of napkins and the basket to hold all the juices. The bread was really good. It may not have been I’m not sure but the bread seemed really fresh and they toasted the bread so it was nice and crunchy. mmm mmmm… I can’t wait to come back here and try all the other sammiches. The one thing that put me off about this place was the popsicle. I know everyone here seems to find their popsicles full of mind blowing deliciousness but for the flavors we each had, it was eh… The strawberry coconut seemed more like a strawberry milkshake in a popsicle form. My Yellow Watermelon Pineapple was sometimes sweet and sometimes watered down throughout my eating experience with this one popsicle. Also there was an odd stringy texture parts of it almost like celery but not so tough. They also have other menu items that are not normally listed everyday posted on their facebook and twitter account so you can see what new stuff they have just for today. But don’t worry it’s not like a super secret item, they put up the special items for each day up on their boards. Overall the sammiches were the highlight of this trip and the popsicles are something I would probably forget about. Nothing missed except $ 2.50. The place is small so most of the time you may have to do to-go and it’s a little hard to find so it’s a bit of a scavenger hunt to go look for it.

Are popsicles the next fad? I have never seen any of these flavor combinations anywhere. I was just astounded from seeing pairings like honeydew and wasabi, heirloom melon and chai, Thai tea and sweet potato. Choosing the Thai tea turned out to be a more complicated experience than I expected and I still don’t know if it was worth it. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the flavors. But eating this icy popsicle meant that very pigmented droplets were getting all over my body and clothes leaving semi-permanent stains. Amazingly enough, both ingredients were present. It worked and I don’t know how they made it work but now I’m kind of curious to see what the others would taste like. They’re pushing the limit with duos – how weird can they get? Meat and potatoes? Now if only they could remove the drippiness, it would be simpler to eat. Innovation is impressive but the execution needs work. Texture is just as important as taste.

Fat Face is a cute little hole in the wall restaurant down an alleyway, inside of a garage… very cute! One of those hidden places that nobody really knows about, but if you take someone there it’s like… «oh cool! i’ve never even seen this place!» PROS — AMAZING sandwiches! — popsicles are soo yummy! all made inside of the restaurant! i suggest strawberry coconut — you can definitely taste the distinct layers within the popsicle. — cute little«i’m on a budget, but by putting up some cool art and crates as furniture, we can also be considered indie» atmosphere. CONS — bad hours :(wish they would extend their sandwiches so I can have them for dinner! — depending on which sandwich you purchase, i advise eating it right away. the juices from the«cola braised pork» tend to soak the toasted bread — inconsistent menu. some people like this, but i like to know what to expect every time i come in. definitely recommend it :) 4⁄5 stars because it’s expensive for what it is — a sandwich.

Thank goodness for Unilocal!I would never find this place without it. Hidden away in an industrial warehouse structure, you can choose to enter through the main or garage door. Going against conventional methods, we chose the latter. We were greeted by a pleasant, young woman who took our order. My friend ordered the smoked salmon sandwich with herbed cream cheese, beets, onion, lettuce, and caper berries. I took a bite of it and enjoyed every second of it. A wonderful mixture of flavors all toying with your taste buds and leaving a great feeling after. I had the cola braised pork combined with queso fresco, avocado salsa, onion, and lettuce. I took my first bite and knew I was going to savor the next 10 minutes of foodie bliss. I cannot say enough about this fantastic item. Fat Face has another big plus that is summed in two words — Mexican Cola! I love this stuff! Real sugarcane! None of the syrupy stuff. A huge problem I have with the restaurant is the portions are ridiculously small. For $ 8 for the sandwich alone, I expect something that will fill me up to a reasonable extent. Half the sandwich doesn’t even fit the size of my hand. So the question remains, would I come back? For quality and if I’m not starving, of course. This place offers top-notch food. If I just ran a marathon, not a chance. My stomach and aching muscles would not be very happy. Nevertheless, this is a must try for any foodie out there. Keep in mind the place only opens for lunch! Enjoy! 4 stars.

I’ve been looking forward to trying Fatface ever since I read about it in Sacramento News & Review. Why did it take me so long? Between my friend and I, we tried the roast pork and cola braised pork«sammiches.» The pork was sublimely cooked and the other sandwich fixings went along perfectly. I’ll try their soup and popsicles next time and hopefully that fifth star will find its way into the review update! I know Jaymes considered opening up shop in the Bay Area, but the artwork, eclectic furniture, and music feels like she brought a bit of the Bay Area to Davis.

Today I had the chance to come at eat the the shop. Loved it. Yet again, it’s got that warm cozy feeling that I love(reminds me of being a big kid). I got the pork sammich and the quality of the meat was quite high and a popsicle(lime avocado). Got to talk to Jaymes a little and she’s awesome. I wish her the absolute best!

It was a great day for a bike ride so we decided to ride over and check out Fat Face on a Sunday for lunch. Good thing we were on our bikes or we might have driven right past it. Fat Face is behind a nondescript door to the side of a warehouse looking building. There is vehicle parking down that side driveway. There was a very limited menu when we were there. Two varieties of turnovers($ 3.00 each) and a specialty polenta($ 5 for a cup) We tried both turnovers — mushroom herb and cheddar apple. Both were wonderful. Crispy crust, well filled with warm delicious interiors. A great value. In the shop there is one large table with 8 chairs. It was nice very casual dining, if a little warm due to the oven. Never having tasted her popsicles at the market we decided to share a kaffir lime/avocado. I really enjoyed the flavor, especially the zing of the kaffir lime. My more traditionally taste budded S.O. liked it OK.

Jaymes, of the renowned Farmers Market popsicle stand has opened up a restaurant. Much like her stand at the market, she offers not only a wide assortment of frozen treats in a wonderfully creative array of flavours, but also delicious savoury food. She melds a tremendous southern flair with a love of local foods, perhaps inspired by the slow food movement, or perhaps because things just taste so good when fresh. It’s impossible to go wrong with her popsicles, or any of her food for that matter. It’s always fresh, creative and delicious.
