The food here is of the most Poor quality. Half a chicken is incredibly small without a lot of meat on it’s bones. It taste nothing like real barbecue instead it is more grilled chicken. Zero flavor. The side salad consists of iceberg lettuce with a frozen tomato. Save your money and go anywhere these people don’t have a clue what barbecue should taste like. How they stay in business is beyond me.

Unfortunately it was just very average barbecue. The brisket was so dry we actually did not eat it. The ribs were cooked okay but too dry again where it needed a lot of sauce. The baked potato came with packages of sour cream and butter which felt very fast food-ish. Overall it was average I would not recommend it to anyone and I would not go back.

Shorty’s is a good-for-your-money BBQ place. I don’t think it’s necessarily the best BBQ you can eat, but worth the price. Probably the best thing is their corn, which is swimming in butter, lol. Best taste, but obviously not best for your health. We ordered the huge family platter, which is supposed to feed 2, but the 4 of us didn’t even finish it all. It works for a family because it’s a variety of everything, and you get to sample it all. Nothing was amazing, but everything was good enough.

We’ve been ordering take out from Davie Shorty’s for years. I don’t know why we don’t come more often, i guess we only get a BBQ craving every 6 months or so because we don’t really go anywhere else for our«fix». I called in my order and they said it would be ready in 10 mins. I think that is record time. I normally have to wait longer than that. Tonight we had our regular Chicken Dinner and Brisket Dinner. Everything is moist and delicious: Chicken was very juicy, even the white meat. My husband said his brisket was good and tender. We made sure to buy a bottle of their Shorty’s sauce for the refrigerator so I would have their sauce to put on my home grilled chicken.

Sorry, I’m from North Carolina and this is not BBQ. Tough, fatty and expensive for what you get. Very disappointed unfortunately.

I eat at Shorty’s in Davie on a regular basis because it’s near my office, the food isn’t bad, prices are very reasonable, and the service is good. Their lunch menu prices are very good. It’s an institution! I just really wish the food was cooked better. I find their BBQ too often be dry, meaning mostly overcooked. I often get the ¼ chicken meal to go from their take-out window(love the take-out window!). The chicken is hit or miss. If you get there after 1:00, dry chicken is guaranteed. I think they cook a lot for the lunch rush, but by 1:15, its just been too long. When eating inside, I rotate between the ¼ chicken(when it’s moist, it’s good), the BBQ pork sandwich on garlic bread, or the chicken sandwich that has bacon, cheese and tomatoes on it. This week I tried the brisket sandwich for the first time. It was so disappointing. Very dry. I like brisket tender and flavorful, and this sandwich made me think the brisket was left over from a few days before and had been reheated a few times already. I won’t order it again considering it was $ 10.99. I’ll return to Shorty’s for the reasons above, but I do wish the food was better.

We love shorty but this visit was not to our expectation. Service was very slow our brisket was very dry and ribs were on the small side. Hoping this was a one time issue.

Kinda wish there were 3.5 stars… as it wasn’t quite a 4. Let me start off by saying that I have been here 3 times and we have ordered the same thing all 3 times. We get the sparerib family meal for 2… for the 3 of us. It comes with plenty of ribs, chicken, sliced pork, sliced beef, fries, corn on the cob, baked beans, cole slaw and garlic bread. We all hate coleslaw. 1st time we didn’t sub for anything…2nd time we got a 2nd giant portion of fries…3rd time we asked if we could sub for a corn on the cob. We were told could only sub for fries or bread. We only wanted 1 ear for our daughter. He subbed a sweet potato for the coleslaw and offered to cut one of the ears in half. It worked, but weird. Corn is really not that expensive(I just bought 10 ears for $ 10 at Publix). We added on macaroni and cheese. Ribs come out dry and you add the sauce. Husband disappointed that they don’t have a spicy BBQ sauce. Ribs are good and tender. Chicken this visit was a bit dry… but daughter liked it. I never like the pork or beef… I find it dry. Husband likes it. Love the baked beans… happy my husband and daughter don’t like baked beans at all… more for me. Mac n cheese is delicious and plenty for the three of us to share Fries…okay…1st time, too light… so 2nd time I asked for well done… they were perfect…3rd time oops, our server didn’t hear the well done. Service…service there to me is hit or miss. Our 3rd visit was the best visit. He offered BBQ sauce to take home with the left overs. He brought a better container for the left over Mac n cheese. He checked on us frequently, but not the annoying type of frequently. Looking forward to next visit.

Good food, the sides were good, Cole slaw was simple but tastie. Not a fan of the frys. I liked my brisket sandwich but it was cold. That was a bummer.

Ordered takeout. Great Service. However, I find that this Shorty’s food taste just isn’t the same as the one in Miami. Ordered Babyback ribs/corn/fried okra. Average. Missing something.

Found this place open later than other restaurant options in the area. I ordered a brisket platter with a sweet potato and coleslaw, plus a side of corn bread. The corn bread was delicious and the brisket was disappointing– rather bland(had to drench it in their smoky, watered down sauce), chewy, and pale in comparison to the luscious, glazed rack of bbq ribs someone else was savoring. Instead of the sweet potato I was served a side of fries, crinkled and tasting of frozen decent. Loved the Southern décor. Not bad, not great … A-ok seems to sum it up well.

Don’t forget to print a coupon. Shorties has the best onion rings in the whole world. Once you order them you cannot come here without eating them. Their sweet and smoky sauces are so good.

Not Texas BBQ, but since I can’t find pulled pork in Texas(or decent bbq baked beans– what is it with the nasty savory beans Texas?), I m decided to pick up a quick lunch for my grandma and I. The portion size, especially given the price, was very large and neither of us could finish our lunch. The sweet bbq sauce was WAY too sweet, especially on the pulled pork(which admittedly is probably the wrong meat choice given that pork is already slightly sweet). The regular sauce was okay. The sliced beef sandwiches we’re very dry and absolutely required a large helping of sauce. They could have been more tender as well. I mean in Texas we have brisket that disintegrates at the touch, why is this beef cut so tough and chewy? There was a nice smokiness to all the meats, so that was a positive. The sandwiches come with a huge helping of fries and if you order the jumbo, you get a larger sandwich and some coleslaw– for $ 1 more. Not bad, but not excellent.

This place has the BESTBBQ in South Florida! No kidding, I’ve tried almost every other place and none of them even compare to this place. The chicken is always cooked perfectly. Crispy skin and juicy inside. The brisket is delicious. Absolutely mouth watering. The ribs are awesome. They always fall right off the bone. Finally, the sides are all terrific. We live in the Coconut Creek/Coral Springs area and we drive all the way down to Davie to have BBQ at Shorty’s. I just wish they had a location that was closer!

I use to come to this place all the time to me this place was the best BBQ. So I live about a good 35 – 40 minute drive. Idk why or how I decided to make this drive but I did. Got there found parking immediately idk if that was a good or bad sign lol. We got greeted and seated in about 2 minutes which was great. Gloria was out waitress and she had an awesome personality. As an appetizer we got cornbread and the homemade onion rings. The corn bread was awesome but was a bit disappointed that it was made out of a box, yes I asked. The onion rings were ok, not well seasoned actually very plain. For an entrees we got baby rack ribs and a pulled pork sandwich with Texas toast. The toast is plain under seasoned, the pork was seasoned well but dry. The baby back ribs were good tender came with Texas toast cole slaw and french fries. The fries were crinkle cut and good. You can’t really mess up fries thou. Cole slaw was good and sweet and you already know how I felt about the toast. Gloria came with warm water to clean our hands. We presented us the bill but did not tell us that we had to pay at the front so after waiting a good 10 minutes we asked. Didn’t have space for a desert thou. Idk if is come back.

The first time I went I held off on writing a review because I just wasn’t sure… After a second time I realize that all my previous BBQ experiences have been better. The first time I name on the weekend and parking was scarce. And it was a 10 – 20 minute wait. The second time was during the week, and parking was no problem and no wait. Both times the cashier/host were friendly and easily accommodated baby cart. My favorite dish has been the half chicken and the hubs really enjoyed the brisket. The brisket comes with brisket sauce and something in a cheese shaker that the waitress said was bbq sauce. Aside from this being a very strange way to serve any sauce, I have no idea what I would call it. The texture was a bit gritty and had a very smoky flavor. I gadgets been warned that the bbq sauce has high fructose corn syrup in it… and that I can overlook, but I tell you fellow Unilocalers there was not even a hint of sweet in this salty mixture. Confused I went to the bottle on the table that was much closer to bbq sauce. There aren’t any full southern meal here either. You get French fries with your sandwich, but if you want traditional mac n cheese, bbq’d beans or even a corn muffin, that is all extra. The first time we went I ordered a corn muffin, they advertise it all over, but it is not like any corn muffin I’ve had before. It was very bland and I did not order it a second time. The bbq’d beans only come with pork, since I don’t eat pork, I will never know what they are like. I’m used to a vegetarian option on the menu. The seating is interesting. There are extra large picnic tables in addition to your regular seating. I don’t like picnic tables at a park, so for sure not interested for dinner. This place is not the greatest, but it isn’t too far and I did enjoy the chicken. I will most likely be back again.
