Their soft tofu soup is always calling my name. Every time I come here, I HAVETO get their tofu soup. This place indeed has the most comforting tofu soup ever. Judging by the looks of this place, you wouldn’t think too much of it, but don’t judge by their looks and location! Their combination tofu soup is what I usually get, and it consists of beef, clam & shrimp. Their tofu is sooooo soft, it just melts in your mouth. I like my soup extra spicy and boy ohhh boyyy do they know how to make their soups spicy, it’s so worth that feeling you get on your tongue! The soup pairs so well with a bowl of purple rice. Their bibimbap and galbi are delicious as well! In addition, they make each of their side dishes to the perfect taste. Sometimes, I get really hungry and impatient, so i’ll eat all of the side dishes before the main dishes even come out… oops! But that’s okay because the servers are usually really nice and they always come back with more side dishes for me, yay! Till next time!

Seafood pancake– too battered, not crispy/crunchy at all Bulgogi– well marinated and goes very well with the hot sauce. Of course, because it’s very flavored you don’t even need extra condiment. BBQ chicken– very typical and no difference with other restaurant’s BBQ chicken. I ordered it because I like to try a variety of entrees but it’s my least preferred dish.

Love this place. 4.5 if I could. Came here for the first time a couple weeks ago because of a chronic craving of Korean food and I was pleasantly surprised. The menu has a really good variety of items. Typically you don’t see jajangmyun at BBQ places but here you can! Along with a few other items I was happy to see. We order a bulgogi and soondubu combination. From my last visit a couple days ago I had the soy bean paste stew. The assortment of panchan was better than average, I really like the potatoes(mashed and sweet marinated), the kimchi cucumbers were good as well as the regular kimchi Bulgogi didn’t seem very fresh but it was still well marinated. I think I’d try the kalbi or spicy pork next time. The tofu soup was the most impressive from my first visit, the was base broth was very flavorful and had a good mix if seafood, beef and chicken. The soy bean paste stew also had really good flavor, definitely going to try that again next time. The soups were both served with a side of multigrain rice, a huuuge plus! Overall the space is night and feels a little more upscale than many other Korean places found in the city, clean and good food! Also close to SFSU and has a decent amount of parking. I’m really glad I found this place.

My cousin and I were in the area and decided to give this place a try after hearing good reviews. I’ve been here before with friends and it was okay, so I wanted to give this place another go. When we walked in, we were instantly seated and given menus. After about 5 minutes, our waitress stopped by to take our order-2 seafood tofu soups, and give us hot tea. She came back to give us our banchan. After 20 minutes, our tofu soups came. I ordered a seafood soup in spicy and it was VERY spicy, but it was good. My cousin got the seafood soup in mild and she said it was good too. Although it wasn’t the best seafood tofu soup, it was pretty good. Our total came out to be $ 26 something. Overall, it wouldn’t hurt to try this place and it was good, but the environment was way too loud for me. Everyone was talking so loud that I could barely hear my cousin talking to me and she was sitting across from me.

Good for a nice Korean lunch or dinner. They did everything good. They gave us plenty of side dishes which was good and gave us endless refills which was good. And the service was good. Slow, but good. I’d come back.

We were too lazy to go to the Richmond district for Korean food so we decided to give this place a try. The bibimpap was really wet and slimy, and the dae ji bulgogi(spicy pork) was too oily and sweet. Also the dish had more fat pieces than actual pork meat. It tasted more like generic Chinese takeout than traditional Korean cooking. The side dishes were also bland and tasted rubbery. It definitely wasn’t fresh. 2 stars because the service was decent and the waiters were nice.

The food is relatively decent. Had the tofu and barbecue rib combo. I think that the beef had painted on grill marks. The tofu soup was average. A little bit tasteless. The service(at best) would get a C from me. Not overly mean, but not attentive either. Maybe they were having a bad day, but they seem to expend more energy making fun of customers who had left than they were serving the customers that were there.

Korean food on a nice cold Wednesday night, perfect. I came here with 2 friends and my boyfriend around 5:45 pm. It was packed by 6 – 6:30. I ordered the white dumpling tofu soup. It was my first time having it and I was pleasantly surprised. I liked that they used the dumplings with the clear glass noodles inside(they were probably the Bibigo brand). PROS: 1. Variety of banchan 2. The lady at the cash register was patient and allowed me to split my check using 2 cards and 1 cash. CONS: 1. Service is on and off. I know it was busy, but I asked one of the servers for an egg and she totally forgot about it. I was meh because I didn’t necessarily need it. 2. Tables were really close to each other where we were sitting, so I felt kind of trapped and not as comfortable. Overall, I think it is a stable place to go to if you want Korean food and you’re in the Westlake area. Like I said, it was my first time having that dish so I have nothing to complain or compare it to. I paid $ 32 including tax and tip for the tofu soup and a hot stone bibimbap.

Definitely not the best Korean place out there for the price but was in the area craving tofu soup so settled for this place. First time that I ordered tofu soup and the purple rice came in a bowl. Usually it comes in the stone pot and with a lot more, especially for the price I’m paying! The ban chans were not bad. People who are giving it 4+ stars have definitely not been to a good Korean restaurant before!

I really liked this place. It was just right for our hungry but low energy mood. Sometimes getting korean food can be exhausting. The bibimbap was flavorful and the kimchee tofu soup had a lot of food. The best part was that the kimchee fried rice came with a choice of meat. We got chicken and man there was a lot of chicken. Maybe it was a Saturday night at 9pm thing, or maybe they’re always this generous. I will have to go back to confirm.

Stopped by here for lunch — the place was about half full. Never offered tea refills. We were given two cups of tea while other tables of 2 had a full teapot. Ordered the spicy chicken — not a hint of spice, lacked caramelization, was not seasoned and looked/tasted closer to a light stir-fry. The kimchi fried rice also was not spicy at all. Basic banchan offerings(soybean sprouts, broccoli, potato, kimchi) — the japchae was the best. +1 for having brown rice. Will likely stick will Korean BBQ House on Gellert Blvd. next time I want Korean food.

I think this place has to be my second favorite Korean tofu soup place and that… being said I’m going to do a quick and simple list on why I love about this place! Likes: — No wait for a party of 2 on a Friday night — They are really flexible with customizing your tofu soup. They were able to accommodate my seafood soup without shrimp AND with ramen added(for no extra charge!) Like seriously. add the ramen. — Purple rice! There aren’t many places that will offer you that high nutrient rice for no extra charge. — Great service. Waiters were nice and didn’t rush us when more people kept coming in. Neutral: — The tofu soup was actually really good as well but it wasn’t anything that would make me come here specifically to eat that. — The side dishes here weren’t that great. There wasn’t much choices but the ones that they do offered tasted great. Meh: — Parking can be a little complicated. Otherwise… no real complaint here!

Not the best korean food ESPECIALLY when they are busy. I came friday night, food came out luke warm when my tofu soup is supposed to be bubbling hot, and the bulgogi is not even hissing or smoking. They are definitely rushing, and lastly they ran out of my favorite ban chan :(super sad. The tofu soup + meat combo $ 20 is a good deal but quality is pretty disappointing! Service is not bad though, they smile and was very nice.

I’ve been here on a couple of occasions, and I’m glad to say there’s a decent tofu house near where I live! I always love getting soon dubu when it’s cold out(which happens a lot in the city). Service is a little bit on the slow side here, but usually servers seem friendly. When I came here yesterday, the woman working the register was very nice and accommodating of my to-go order. Parking can be a little tricky around here, and you can probably expect to wait for a seat at this tofu house. Each time I’ve been here it’s been crowded, with people waiting at the door. Make sure to put your name on the list. Parking in this area would not seem so bad, but you might have to park in the residential area a couple blocks away. In addition, people are always looking for parking in this area. The food itself really is the highlight though. I love the soft tofu stew: the tofu itself is nice and silky, and the soup comes with different meats. I personally like the pork one the best. I usually get mild because I’m a wimp when it comes to spicy food. However, mild is not really hot at all; I think I’d prefer somewhere between medium and mild. But just because it wasn’t spicy doesn’t mean that the flavor was lacking. Just the opposite, it was still nice and savory enough to really satisfy the void in my stomach. One last highlight of my visit yesterday: even if you get food to go, you still get side dishes! Yay! However, you do not get an egg with your soup, as you would when dining in. I’m guessing this is a sanitary issue. Overall, I can say that I’ll be coming back. Especially when that craving hits!

The best places are the ones you continue to go to time after time. Dae Jang Geum Tofu House is my go to Korean Restaurant in the Daly City area. I can’t say that they have a dish that will blow your mind, but they provide good food consistently and at a reasonable price. Perfect for a day and or large group, I would suggest the tofu stew + meat combo. You have your choice of tofu stew(I default to beef) and your choice of meat(kalbi, bulgogi, spicy pork, or chicken). If you need an appetizer, the sea food pancake will hit the spot with its crispy exterior. There aren’t too many bells and whistles but it will make you feel warm and fuzzy inside, and always leaves me satisfied.

We were looking for a place to go to in Daly City on a late Sunday morning with the fam. With 12 people and not wanting to have to wait in a long line, dim sum was out. So with the suggestion of Korean BBQ, I turn to trusty Unilocal to see what my options were. A few places were closed for Sunday lunch so we came upon Dae Jang Geum which fit the bill. With this many people, we ordered 3 appetizers, the veggie Korean pancake, the pork dumplings, and the spicy squid. If you are a spicy person, you may be disappointed but for a non-spicy to mild girl like me, it was just right. I ordered the dolsat beef and to me it was more shreds of meat than sliced so it reminds me more of leftover pieces that they didn’t use for the BBQ meat plates. The pork someone else got was too sweet for my taste that you almost couldn’t tell that you were eating pork. The person who got the BBQ plate with bulgogi was real happy with his dish that he finished the entire thing which he rarely does, so I know there was at least a winner there. Everything was fine but nothing outstanding so I have to give it just an A-OK.

I am really surprised that this place does not have atleast 4 stars, because I have not been dissapointed after visiting this location 3 times. I live with two Koreans who love this place and have brought another Korean friend here whom also liked this place a lot. They have had a lot of Korean food throughout their lives and assures me that the tofu soups here are one of the best. My go to tofu soup is the Ham and cheese at regular spicy. I have also tried the pork dumpling tofu souo but did not enjoy it as much. On my last visit, I learned that their tofu soup and bbq combo was pretty much regular portions of esch entrée; I highly recommend taking advantage of the doscount you get from ordering both over each item seperstely! One reason why I didn’t give this place 5 stars is because I felt like the kbbq was not as tasty as some of the kbbq I have had in the East Bay; not sure how to inprove. The other reason is because I felt like the side dishes were lacking. My favorite side dish is the sweet potato drenched in syrup, and I felt like the potatoes were undercooked. Pros: — one of the best Tofu Soups you will find in the area — tofu soup and kbbq combo Potential Improvements: — reevaluate the process of preparing side dishes

3.5 stars if you get their meat dishes because they are less expensive than most places. Service can be a bit slow, but staff are usually kind and patient. Food– tofu soup is good, served with purple rice and egg, usually my go to item on the menu. Samgyetang is pretty big, like the sticky rice inside, but ginseng taste is very little. Noodles are pretty good and chewy, but you don’t get as much compared to other Korean restaurants. Banchon is ok, kimchi not spicy at all. Takes credit card is $ 15 or more. Sign up sheet at the door should there be a wait. Line for dinner begins around after 7pm, especially on weekends.

Wasn’t my all time favorite Korean place. The servers were nice and seated us right away, even though the only table open was for 6, and there were only two of us. Ordered a bibimbap and the spicy pork and tofu soup combo. Bibimbap was decent, although I thought it was very very dry. The spicy pork had good flavors, but it was drenched in oil. So much that I couldn’t eat all of it. I took it home to separate all the oil from it. The combination tofu soup was standard, it’s hard to mess up soft tofu soup. Since there’s not too many Korean places near me, I would come back if I was craving Korean food. :)

Saw the good Unilocal reviews and decided to try this place out. The place did not disappoint! The place didn’t look that crowded from the outside, but once you get in, the vibe is actually pretty warm. The fact that the menu was written in Korean certainly showed how authentic this place was :) The food was pretty good. The BBQ gal bi was served Sizzling hot, with smoke and oil popping everywhere, and tasted DeLiCiOuS, with lots of juices and the meat practically sliding off the bones. The tofu soup was also served Very Very hot, with the soup basically bubbly uncontrollably and a large amount of smoke. These guys definitely are the Real Deal. The appetizers were also pretty good as well. Definitely a place that’s worth making a special trip to just for the food.
