I am a very proud omnivore, but if I could eat Spiral Diner’s food every day, I’d happily convert to being a vegan(not an easy thing for me to say, trust me). Spiral Diner is truly a gem of a fun, hipster, and slightly edgy restaurant in the Oak Cliff area. With all the food being vegan, your bacon is obviously not going to taste like bacon, your burger patty will not actually taste like beef, etc. However, I like to categorize Spiral Diner’s taste into its own category of flavor-filled, unique spins on classic, beloved diner foods. My friend and I started off with the hummus and flour tortillas. The hummus was fresh, but a bit on the watery side — However, the flour tortillas — Wow! They were a bit darker in color(not really sure what they were made out of, which seems to be a common theme of this restaurant), but so warm, soft, and doughy. For mains, we each got a burger(El Paso & Big Kahuna) with a cashew-quinoa patty and classic burger patty(made of soy protein). I’d compare the taste of the classic burger patty to a traditional veggie burger. I absolutely loved my cashew-quinoa patty, which was made of a blend of carrots, quinoa, cashews, and spices. It was grilled/fried(who cares, really — it was SO crispy on the outside!) Absolutely bursting with flavor. I knew I wasn’t eating a beef burger patty, and I was very okay with it. Service was great. Our waitress was patient in giving us recommendations, and walking us through various clarifications in the menu items, even with a full restaurant. Our appetizer came almost immediately after we ordered it, and entrees very soon afterwards. Love the atmosphere. It’s housed in a very modest, distressed-brick wall enclosure. Inside, there is a very classic diner feel, but with a small market of organic/vegan goods at the side of the restaurant, a counter full of delicious vegan goods, and children’s books lining the windows for patrons sitting in booths to sift through while they wait for their food. I like these unique touches to the restaurant to distinguish it from other diner-type places! Logistically speaking, parking is a bit rough, but it’s Dallas, so I am sure you are a good enough of a driver to deal with it. The restaurant seems to be pretty popular, so if you’re hungry, come early. My friend and I came in around 5:30PM on a Saturday night, and it was about a 15 minute wait already, so I can only imagine the lines as the night continues. Trust me, the wait makes the food well worth it.

I am LOVING this place. I had the Philly cheese steak with chips and queso yesterday and the meatball sub with chips and kale-amole today. This place has the to go order situation down to a science. I’ll be back for sure.

I got the El Paso burger with a quinoa-cashew patty, side of canteloupe, fountain drink, and an amaretto cupcake. The pink drink prickly pear cactus drink was a little too sweet but I just got the black cherry soda after that. Everything was so delicious, El Paso burger exceeded expectations and the amaretto cupcake was off the chain. I spent $ 23 but I also bought a container of nutritional yeast to take home. It would have been less than $ 20 without that. They were very busy when I stopped in, we ordered to go and ate on the bench outside conversing with friendly locals. It was a good experience and I hope to return soon.

I ordered the VLT, the vegan version of a BLT, with potato salad. I really enjoyed my food but it would have been better served hot and not 20 excruciating minutes after I sat down. The wait staff is very nonchalant and laid back. Maybe that’s all part of the hipster vibe? There are tons of hipsters in this place by the way. Tons. Tall ones, short ones, old ones, young ones, big ones, small ones. Hipsters galore. Did I mention the hipsters? I digress, so the food is good, the service is not.

This is going to be a short and sweet review. Get their Nacho Supreme, hummus wrap, and any one of their brownie sundaes! The service is lackluster so that is where the one star was minus-ed. Several employees were rude and inappropriate but the manager seemed to «own» up to their faults and apologetic. The only things that need to be said about this place is. the three mentioned items above are really the most amazing vegan foods that I have ever tried, the service pretty much stinks, and be ready to wait in line because most of the time we have been here for dinner. we waited to be seated. They have a nearly nonexistent parking lot which is shared with two other restaurants so carpooling is a good idea!

Vegetarians and vegans prepare to go nuts at Spiral’s. This vegan restaurant is popular in demand for a reason. Hands down delicious from the nacho supreme to Big Kahuna burger to hemp smoothie. You chomp on that first bite. And then? And then you realize there’s no meat and you’re not disappointed and you’ll continue to frequent this vegan retreat. It’s just that satisfying. Customer service needs improvement, but hell, the food is right on target. So, you give a pass.

One of my fav vegan places. I like it so much I have often fantasized about pursuing a franchise. Their desserts are better than 75% of the«regular» desserts I have eaten. The pasta primavera with meatballs, ate layer burrito, crispy spring wrap and savory seitan wrap are my favorite dishes. I like ALL their cake. The slices are huge. I mean really huge. And each bite of this $ 5.95 cake slice is worth twice as much. Moist. Super dense. Sweet. #vegan #foodie

Everything here is vegan. I am vegetarian and not vegan. The chips and party dip get you chips and salsa and guacamole and«cheese» the cheese is nutritional yeast and cashews. It is very good and should be tried. My wife and I got the seitan bbq sandwich with potato salad. The sandwich was very tasty. My wife does not like pickles so she removed them but said the sandwich was excellent. The potato salad was actually whipped potatoes. It had too much dill for me and was too much pickles. This is an excellent restaurant that should be tried even by carnivores.

Spiral Diner is worth the wait! We didn’t think a vegan restaurant would be in such high demand, but my boyfriend and I arrived at 8:30 on one Saturday night and were told that the wait was 2 hours! They close at 10:30, but they serve food until they run out. We were too hungry so we went elsewhere. A couple Saturdays later, I called ahead to make reservations but was told that no reservations were needed for a party of two and we should be good. So we showed up at 7:30 and had a 40 minute wait. I dont think a 40 minute wait is good and I wish they’d take reservations for smaller parties, but we stuck it out. There’s a waiting area inside and outside. Spiral Diner is located in an interesting area at a weird intersection where there’s a bunch of construction. It’s not the neighborhood I pictured for vegan eats, but they sure do attract a cool crowd here! Seems like everyone was trendy, cool, and laid back. When all the tips tell you to order the Nachos Supremo, of course we ordered the Nachos Supremo! And we washed those nachos down with milkshakes, vegan of course! It wasn’t the healthiest of choices but it was vegan and we didn’t feel awful afterward. The vegan nachos were absolutely delicious, we really could not tell that they were vegan! The cheese was creamy and cheesy and the quinoa added a really nice texture. I ordered a Martha the Librarian milkshake for dessert, an interesting combination of strawberries, peanut butter, bananas, and chocolate vegan ice cream. My boyfriend enjoyed his peanut butter milkshake. I really like Spiral Diner and I would recommend it to tourists and those looking for interesting food spots. Although Spiral Diner offers burgers, pasta, sandwiches, and salads, the fact that everything is vegan makes it very interesting. It really opens your eyes to a new and delicious cuisine! I’m giving Spiral Diner 4 stars instead of 5 only because the wait is ridiculous and they should really take reservations.

The place, the myth, the legend. I’m speaking here of course about Spiral Diner’s house-made peanut butter cups. WOW. Here’s the deal though, make sure you call ahead if these are what you’re after. Through the years I’ve made the rounds here and it’s about 50⁄50 at best whether they’ll have them or not. Super worth it though and unreal good. Do yourself a favor and get them as an appetizer to be able to really focus. Nachos supremo are super dope. They’re getting more GF options. If you haven’t been here yet it’s probably because you’re new to Dallas, right? This many reviews can’t be wrong.

The really good: Blueberry pancakes(wow) Bottomless coffee(tasty coffee and only $ 2.95) The good: Breakfast quesadilla Migas Supreme nachos The ok: Sunshine sandwich The bad: The mimosas(small serving, and $ 6.95 per glass) Overall our table of four was really impressed with the large selection of items, the flavors they were able to create while still being vegan(including enough spices and herbs), and want to give the café credit especially for being part of a limited vegan culture in Dallas. Would come again and would also be interested in their lunch entrees.

My boyfriend and I wanted to try something different. Neither of us are vegan but are open to trying new things. I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I’ve only been to one other vegan restaurant. I loved this place because the menu had an assortment of all different types of foods. They even had a cute little market when you checkout. My boyfriend had the Big Kahuna burger with the cashew quinoa patty. I had the spaghetti and meatballs with pineapple and olives. It was amazing! My only complaint is that it came with normal toasted bread instead of an italian style garlic toast. We finished with a banana nut cake to take home. The staff is wonderful and they really go above and beyond on their dishes. Definitely will be returning!

First time here and just by the offerings and baked treats displays it is a very good vegan retreat near the heart of Dallas. Large crowd early and all the plates going by look great. Big plates so dessert to go a likely option. Worth the stop and as many reviews said-a MUST for a vegan when in Dallas. Forth worth original to be tried. Staff friendly and attentive and great to have a place where one does not have to ask if something is vegan. It all is from the wines to the baked to anything that has a name like cheese or tab as in crab soup-all vegan.

While my sister(who is vegan) was in town, we visited Spiral Diner for Sunday brunch. There was a wait, but they sat us very quickly. Love the laid back, funky environment and even though 4 of us were not vegans, we enjoyed the experience. Overall, the pancakes and nachos were the biggest hits! I ordered the zucchini po boy on special and it was way too bready, but delicious veggies! Did I mention the nachos?! So good!

Amazing food. If you’re a vegetarian, vegan, or just into eating healthy, I would absolutely recommend this restaurant. The last time I went I had a wrap, and my friends had quesadillas, crab cakes, and spaghetti and meatballs. All were delicious, and it was nearly impossible to tell that there was no meat in any of the dishes.

I’m not vegan, vegetarian or any lacto-ovo variation thereof. So let me tell you, there are no qualifiers… This is great food. Everyone says try the nachos and that’s no kidding, they are fantastic. I’ve had a few other entrees and they’re great. When we are in the neighborhood, Spiral diner is a great go-to and its worth the trip when seeking some vegetarian fare.

I’ll start by saying I’m not a practicing vegan however; I’ve challenged myself this month to try it out as a lifestyle. I’ve been cooking my own meals but this week I’m traveling and wanted to check out a local spot. So what’s a girl to do but turn to her old faithful Unilocal app. Boy does it always steer me in the right direction! I tried it out for lunch by myself yesterday and had the nacho supreme. Yum yum. It was so good I couldn’t stop talking about to local, meat eating family members and invited a couple to lunch on me today. They had turned up noses and questioning attitudes lol. We had the nachos again, the portobello ranch bacon cheeseburger, their special zucchini poboy and sides. Whew were we stuffed! Like me, they were amazed. Pure awesomeness, go get you some. I think I’ll go back at least one more time before I head back home.

Welcome to Vegan Heaven!!! This is the most wonderful and delicious place on the face of the earth, and is proof that an all-vegan restaurant can thrive! Let’s start with the food. The fact that the entire menu is vegan is a delicious miracle in itself. You have to order the nachos for an appetizer! If you don’t order them I will punch you for making a huge mistake. The nachos are very large so be prepared to share, although you will not want to. They have amazing ‘queso’ and all kinds of toppings that just make this an amazing dish. For breakfast I would recommend the Vigas(migas). Pretty much everything is great, but I like to try their monthly specials. Don’t forget to finish it off with a Vega milkshake. That’s right, I said a vegan milkshake. The staff is always friendly and helpful. They know the menu well and can help pick menu items out. The restaurant itself is fun and welcoming. The only negatives is that parking is small and that it’s not next door to my house. Go try Spiral Diner and then you can thank me afterwards.

Five stars for food. Four for service. Don’t let the fact that this is a vegan spot deter you from checking it out. You’ll hardly miss meat/dairy after the first bite. And you’ll be tempted to eliminate both from your diet after the second… Spiral has an extensive menu with everything from club sandwiches to burgers to tacos to fresh green salads, hummus plates and delicious daily specials. Not to mention a killer brunch, organic wines and tons of mouthwatering baked goods to satisfy your sweet tooth! I have only been here twice and have loved it each time. Guilt-free, fresh and vegan. Customer service could improve on attentiveness to customers, immediate seating when there is no wait, and a faster more stream-lined process for check out. Also parking is a challenge given the area. Either way, I’ll be back. Thankful for businesses like this in DFW.

Great food! My husband is still dreaming about their burger. We went with the full dinner experience and asked for 3 different milkshakes and they were all delicious. We both had burgers and my sister had a quinoa type of salad, everything was very tasty. The bakery stuff was also good, we took some cupcakes and brownies. Loved the decoration, it is a must if you’re around the area.

Wow. We are doing a Daniels diet. This was the end of our first of three weeks and it’s been tough finding tasty stuff. This was mind boggling good and exciting. Five of us came out and we were all blown away. From the Nachos Supremo to the breakfast quesadilla to the Shetti meat balls and Bryan’s brutal tacos were exceptional. The Ramsay’s perfect protein was also very good. Tee toped it off with the banana pudding ice cream and strawberry ice cream. If you don’t like bananas or strawberries, try the desert and you will like these. I preferred the strawberries. Fantastic service as well with a great hippie vibe.

Spiral Diner is a true treat. Any place that can make your favorite comfort food in vegan masterpieces deserves a round of applause! The diner is in an awkward location but it’s still easy to get there. There us actually plenty if parking if you drive in front of the diner and turn right into the ally driveway and it will lead you to open spaces. Now, I went for the portobello mushroom quesadilla and a slice of sweet potato pie… I was burning my mouth trying to eat that quesadilla. It was the best, seriously! The sweet potato pie, well fans of the Patti pie should try this. All the flavors were there and the crust was superb! I plan to go back and try the bread pudding. It’s a really cool place and so cozy! I got it to go so yeah, I was in my car burning my mouth trying to taste the cheezy goodness. They offer a Sunday brunch that I hear is amazing. Like many others have said, you don’t have to be vegan to enjoy Spiral Diner.

Yes! Yes! This is what I needed after eating as terribly as I did. It’s a cute, quaint, yet typical, vegan restaurant. I loved everything I ate. The tacos salad was so delicious right along with the Hemp green smoothie! I had a taste of my friend’s mint chocolate chip ice cream, and there was an overbearing salty taste.(They make their own ice cream, so I think they may have put too much salt) They have a self-serve organic soda machine and sell a few health food items… The parking is a bit bad but we lucked up on a spot right away. When I visit Dallas again, I will definitely come back!

Love love love the food here! You can’t go wrong on any dish!!! All vegan and all sustainable products when available. Makes me so happy to eat here. I would give 5 stars but my only negative is the service. It’s really slow. Every single time I’ve been. Which is sad because I love this place. Our most recent trip was a Saturday at 6:25 pm. We were sat immediately and it wasn’t very busy. It took forever to get our order taken, to get a to go box, and to order dessert. So glad we had enough time before our show downtown or we would have been late. I understand the laid back feel of this joint and I appreciate it but service is still service and it has lacked every visit. But the food!!! The glorious food!!! You must get the chips and cheeze!!! Omg… I wanna fill a bathtub, jump in, and devour it all!!! We ordered the Nachos Supremo and the Patty Melt and split both. Amazing!!! Tastebuds were soooo happy!!! For dessert, I got the banana split… again. I have hard time ordering anything else. :) I like the variety of ice cream and toppings. Yummy! Plus, it’s shareable! Another win, is they have custom cakes and you can order dishes and desserts for the holidays. Love that!!!

Very good service and very tasty food. My first trip and I wanted to try a really good dish. I picked a great one for me, portobello mushroom quesadilla. It was very cheesy and full of veggies. The portion was nice size. The dessert was amazing, hard to see how there was nothing from a cow on it. This restaurant uses nothing from an animal. Hard to really tell, as they do vegan right.

Who/where/when: bf & I on vacay Why: A vegan diner, what an awesome concept! It’s wonderful to see something like this in Texas(wish we had one in Houston), a place where two clashing ideas actually unite in harmony. Bf had the Jamaican Jerk Sandwich, which was nutty and filling. We did not like his side though, which was a rather pathetic side of chips covered in weird paprika-like seasoning. My Sketti and Meatballs was a yummy mix of pesto and marinara. The meatballs were pretty flavorful, just wish the portioning was more generous. Overall, good vibes from this place.

I’m not a vegan, but Spiral Diner has some of the most delicious food I’ve ever tasted. I love that you seat yourself, that books are stacked near the tables to make you feel at home, and that they have Maine Root sodas on tap. Did I mention they are a bakery and sell vegan groceries as well? The assortment of baked goods in their display case had me drooling and wishing I would have saved room for dessert. They make custom cakes too and multiple flavors of ice cream they call ‘i-scream’. I have had vegan ice cream elsewhere before and it was phenomenal so there’s no way it wouldn’t be as good here. With such a large and creative menu, they clearly have someone very talented in the kitchen because everything we ordered left us impressed(and full). We started with chips and salsa. The salsa was heavy on tomato flavor more so than pepper flavor, but the dusting of spice on the chips was a nice touch. For my lunch I ordered one of their current specials, the eggplant parmesan sandwich. It is breaded and baked eggplant medallions on toasted hoagie bread with melted Daiya cheese, their homemade marinara sauce, and pesto(I asked them to leave off the olive tapenade). Because this is a vegan restaurant they do not use meat, dairy, or animal products, so Daiya cheese is dairy free, soy free, and GF. Honestly? Didn’t miss the real stuff at all because this sandwich was divine! It comes with one side and you have to ask your server what the choices are because they change daily. I got pasta salad and it was the best I’ve ever had. So luxuriously creamy and full of flavor. My husband got the philly cheese steak sandwich with potato salad. This sandwich has marinated and grilled seitan, grilled red bell peppers, melted Daiya cheese, onions, tomatoes, and black olives on a hoagie bun. My meat and potatoes man was extremely happy with it and said he would definitely come back and eat here again. The only thing I could see people getting annoyed with is the parking lot being a bit of a cluster and the higher prices. They have to use the best ingredients they can find to turn out such amazing plates though, so you really can’t be upset with them for that. The food will taste like an indulgence but in reality it’s actually pretty good for you. I adore that their menu changes often, that they serve breakfast all day, and that they even have a Sunday Brunch! I love you Spiral Diner. Let’s spend many more afternoons together, shall we?

You would not think to come to dallas and eat at a vegan restaurant. Texas is the land of the BBQ. My hubby is on travel and was getting sick of eating meat and I thought that this would be a good place to try out since its vegan and I can never convince the hubby to eat a meal that does not have meat. This was my only opportunity to convince him to eat something without meat. The place seemed to be a total hipster diner place and I love the ambience of the restaurant. I also love the idea that you can self serve for beverages as what you like because then you don’t have to wave down your server on filling your glass and you can get it at your service. They served local soda beverages along with some ice teas. Our server recommended that we try to quesadilla and we were definitely going to try out the vegan nachos. I questioned how could they make a sauce that tasted and fell like nacho consistency and still make it vegan. Amazing that they can make this sauce from cashews and red bell pepper! We ate the entire plate of nachos since it was so good!!! The quesadilla seemed to pair pretty well but for my palate, I didn’t particularly like having a sweeter quesadilla. Guacamole was fantastic! Would highly recommend that you check out this place if you don’t feel like giving in to the texas bbq everyday.

All hail Spiral Diner! I recently brought my boyfriend here without telling him anything about the restaurant. He automatically fell in love, being of the hipster era and all. He is always up for anything, so it wasn’t going to startle him that I wanted to bring him to the no meat zone. He was rather surprised at the large menu and representation of the food. He ordered a burger and he LOVED it. I ordered a chipotle quesadilla, delicious, of course. We shared an ice cream sundae afterward. He was impressed and I was happy about it. Spiral Diner is a MUST, especially if you are vegan or vegetarian! The food looks like ‘normal’ food as non-vegetarian folks would say. You can get a burger or nachos or ice cream here and it is ALLVEGAN. It’s tough being a vegetarian with most restaurants offering a side salad with iceberg lettuce(bleh!). And then your friends, family and strangers asking ‘hwhere do ya git yer proteen frum?’ –The most annoying question on the planet. The staff is friendly and the food is GREAT! Save room for dessert as they always have a huge list of options!

Since the beginning of 2015, I’ve been doing the Vegan thing. This totally reflects in my recent reviews which were once all about seafood and sushi, and now totally about the tofu! It’s pretty hard searching for spots that cater to a vegan diet, especially here in Texas, the land of beef and Tex-Mex. Once I tried Spiral Diner, my search for my favorite local restaurant is over. Gone are the days of altering dishes and asking for crazy substitutes, or just sitting and sipping on a beverage while everyone else chows down! Spiral Diner is an awesome spot, for vegans and non-vegans alike. The parking lot that’s adjacent to the building can fill up pretty quick, but don’t fret, there’s another shared lot behind Jonathon’s down the narrow gravel path behind the establishment. The service is great! Everyone has been friendly and helpful every time I’ve been inside. They’ll explain the menu and give you great suggestions as well. Speaking of the menu, it’s very extensive. The options range from burgers to salads to hot entrees. And the best part… everything is Vegan!!! No searching for a «V» next to selections, it’s all Vegan! The food is sooo good as well. On my last visit, I had the meatball sub with some pesto and extra cheese on it… soooo good! My mouth is drooling while I’m writing this! In addition to the huge selection of food, their wine/beer selection is extensive as well. They have a lot of local options on tap(Rahr, Deep Ellum, etc.) as well as other foreign and domestic options. If you’re a vegan living here in Dallas, Spiral Diner is a must. It’s my personal favorite vegan spot… not only here, but anywhere. If you’re not vegan, Spiral Diner is a must. Mark my words. try it out… you’ll go back! P. S. The desserts and shakes are also a must try. This place has so many great options! This review doesn’t do it justice! P. S.S. I keep adding more to this review… there’s so much. They have a small grocery section near the check out line where you can find many vegan products ranging from beverages to cheeses and even books! Don’t forget to take a look while you’re waiting in line!

I really love Spiral Diner! I’ve only eaten(several times) at the Fort Worth location, but haven’t had a chance to try the Oak Cliff stalwart. We were down in Bishop Arts for the evening and had a friend with us who can’t eat dairy, so it was the perfect time to go. Plus I’d promised her forever that I would take her and we’ve finally converted our husbands to the wonders of vegetarian meals. The food was delicious, but I have to knock Spiral Diner a star because they can be very disorganized. There’s a disconnect between the food prep staff and wait staff regarding what is and isn’t available. It became a little comical to order something that we’d discover 5 minutes later wasn’t available or to try to order something else and be told it wasn’t available only to learn 5 minutes later that it was, in fact, available if we wanted that instead. My dairy-free friend had a «Parmesan» wrap and pasta salad — a winner all around. Her husband had the«Ate» layer burrito(which was actually only 7 layers because they didn’t have any faux sour cream) and the pasta salad — still tasty. My husband had the nachos supreme and loved them — it was actually too much food. I had the Big Kahuna burger with a portabella patty and cole slaw. Everyone helped me eat it and thought it was the winner dish of the evening(nachos took a close 2nd place). My dairy-free friend also had the blueberry pie and ice cream(soy milk). The crust was cookie-style and very buttery good. None of us preferred the style of the blueberry filling — a little too much cinnamon for our tastes. All in all, it was a great experience and my group was glad we made the stop. We left with full happy bellies and no feelings of deprivation.

Vegan just sounds scary to a meat lover. Decided to give the place a try since the other option had a super long wait — best opportunity to be «forced» to try new food! I got the Nachos Supremo — OHMYGOD. How can fake cheese taste so good?! I struggle with eating variety of veggies so I’m shocked I was able to find a vegan dish at this place that I instantly fell in love with. The cashew-based cheese is superb! The tofu scramble was meh, eggs is something that can’t be substituted for me. The«bacon» was pretty funny… flexible like rubber 0 – 0. Definitely will come back for the nachos!
