It’s pretty amazing how bad my experience was here. The food wasn’t bad(wasn’t good either), it was the service that made my experience awful. On the food side, we went there on the DMA Speak Easy night when they were doing tapas. My wife and I tried four dishes and none of them were actually good. We had a duo of duck dish where one side was too sweet and the other was just bland. There was some fowl dish that was incredibly dry with risotto that tasted like it could have come out of a package and cold. We had a braised beef short rib tart tamale where the meat was good but the tart had the consistency of sand. After that there was a fried goat cheese ravioli that was pretty tasty but then it had a so-so ratatouille underneath that didn’t really work with it. The food wasn’t good, it was just nothing special. One annoyance about the whole thing was that none of these dishes were really made to share, which is a problem with tapas. The ravioli was just one large ravioli, the tart was a single tart, and the other dishes came in odd numbers so they couldn’t be split easily. All that alone wouldn’t be enough to give the place a single star, what really did them in for me was the terrible service. It was just painfully slow. It took forever for the waitress to take our order and then it took forever to get the food out. Again, this is a tapas place and you would think they could bring food at one dish at a time instead all at once and cold. So we finish eating and sit there with a few empty plates on our table for a while and they finally take our plates. About 10 – 15 minutes later our waitress asks us if we’d like dessert. We said no and she left and never brought us our ticket. After sitting there for another 10 – 15 minutes she finally asks us if we’d like our check. You know, after we said no to dessert and sat there with nothing(empty glasses even) on the table. We say yes and she leaves again. After another good 10 minutes she comes back and asks if we’d like separate checks. What? Obviously husband and wife sitting at a table having dinner, why ask? We say no, one check, and she disappears again. Same old story, we wait a while and she eventually appears with the check. Keep in mind the place is pretty empty at this point because it’s late. It is not busy at all. When she drops off the check she starts to walk away but I stop her and immediately give her my credit card because I don’t want to wait around another 15 minutes. Of course I do end up waiting around another 15 minutes for her to come back. If it were just the food, I wouldn’t be angry. I would just say the food just isn’t worth the price and be done with it but the service I had tonight was completely inexcusable. Overpriced. Bland food. Terrible service.

I was extremely underwhelmed by Seventeen Seventeen. I tried the bruchetta with goat cheese & arugula salad appetizer, wild salmon & spinach, and fried cherry cake & peanut butter potsticker. I can definitely see the Stephen Pyles inspired menu, which was interested and caught my eye. The food that came out really wasn’t what I expected at all with all 3 courses. The food portions were TINY. I was starving after the 3-course meal. I had to compensate by eating a lot of free bread. The food came out with pretty good presentation, but I wasn’t extremely impressed with the presentation either. My coworker ordered one of the salads which was presented nicely, but the chopsticks were sticking straight up in the air. This is bad luck in asian cultures! I wasn’t offended or anything, but as a restaurant owner I’d be careful haha. I like how the restaurant is part of the museum, I just wasn’t really impressed with the food and don’t think it’s worth the price.

Great food in a sleek contemporary setting. I am proud to say I built the steel maitre d’ stand, the 1717 numbers on the wall, and the steel furniture here.

This place was very crowded when we went but the staff was very friendly and professional and made sure we got a seat and were served. It’s just one of those places where you can enjoy good food, good wine, and good conversation. Okay, that last one’s up to you, but the staff here will do everything right to foster a lovely experience. While it’s somewhat upscale, I found the atmosphere very welcoming and fairly relaxed. We had the blue fin tuna, pork, and lamb tapas. Each was very enjoyable though the tuna and lamb were especially good. I’ll be very happy to return.

What a wonderful restaurant this is! It’s in the Dallas Museum of Art. Hubby and I took a day during the week to do the ‘museum thing’ and had lunch here. It was a gorgeous day so we had lunch on the patio. The service was attentive and friendly and the food was outstanding! We both had a salad and the special entrée which was crab cakes served with linguine and some sauteed vegetables and topped with thinly sliced deep-fried leeks. There is no way I can describe how beautiful the dish was when it came out but I can tell you that there were 3 good-sized crab cakes loaded with crab. It was a very satisfying lunch — good food, service, and atmosphere. The prices may be a bit high for an average daily lunch, but for a more special lunch it’s not too bad. Most entrees were priced less than $ 20. I think the crab cake entrée we had was somewhere around $ 25. Unfortunately the restaurant is only open Tuesday thru Friday and only for lunch. If you don’t live or work in the area, take a day during the week and visit one of the museum exhibits and be sure to eat at this restaurant(put your name on the reservation list ahead of time or when you get there OR go in by noon). Check the museum’s web site for the restaurant’s phone number if you want to make a reservation ahead of time. ~~~~~~~~ PS — Don’t confuse this restaurant with the Atrium restaurant also in the museum. Two very different places.
