You’ve probably heard of Sammy’s. There’s a location near downtown on Leonard. But that one is crowded and rushed. When I want to eat barbecue I want to sit down and enjoy my food. They have the same menu, but on a Saturday afternoon, you can eat your food in the unhurried atmosphere of the re-vamped Preston Center Area. The ribs and the pork are my favorite, but all the meats are a cut above average(pun intended). You can depend on them being good, if not great. I like the beef. I usually prefer the heavy smokey flavored briskets, but Sammy’s is tender and tasty with less hickory. The sides are outstanding. I love the baked potato casserole. I could make a meal of that. And the salads are way above what is one usually gets a a BBQ joint. The only thing that could be better is the sauce. I like it but it’s a bit on the thin side. That is due partially to it being kept warm. I like warm, but I like thick. The green tomato relish is crazy good. I usually eat enough to call it a side dish. The sweet tea makes me happy I’m in the South. Also, the cobblers and lemon squares are great ends to the meal.
