Royal Wok Chinese Restaurant is a dive Chinese restaurant located in Dallas’s busy Korean Town District. The food is very good, authentic, cheap, and best taken to go. If you’re looking for good Chinese in between the numerous Korean BBQ restaurants along Royal Ln., read on. My Overall Rating — 4 Stars(Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere — While Royal Wok is located off Royal, it’s part of a bigger building and set back a bit. But, look for the awful looking LED& neon lights(why do Asian restaurants do this?) and you’ll find it. In it you’ll find a restaurant with lots of clutter. Along with tables with white tops, you may run across an unpacked box or two and an Asian dressing screen covering a section of the restaurant. Did I mention we were the only customers? I almost wanted to leave. Almost. No Stars. Service — The hostess/manager/server sat us down, took our order, and barked in Chinese to the cook in the back. The cook did not speak a word of English and was also the food runner and bus boy. So they were short staffed — like I said we were the only customers so it wasn’t a big deal. But they were super nice, while our cook/food runner/bus boy didn’t understand a word we said, he was always smiling and nodding his head. Honestly they were great and I felt like I was eating with family… in their garage. 1 Star. Food — Like many Chinese restaurants, expect a huge menu. But it was at this point my concern about the atmosphere melted away. The descriptions looked good, and it was CHEAP($ 6 — $ 10 for family style entre). And everything we ate was quality. We order many dishes, but we had some stand outs like orange beef — a lightly fried beef tossed in orange sauce and vegetables. It even had cooked orange rind which gave it great flavor/texture. The Young Chow fried rice was a hit amongst the kids, and the fried tofu in green beans was solid for the adults. The menu is huge, so we just started asking them if they could make dish X and sure enough they would. The food was good, cheap too. Now remember when I said we were the only customers in the restaurant? Well, while we were dining there at least 5 — 6 people coming in to pick up or order take out. In other words, people like to eat food from Royal Wok, they just don’t like to eat AT Royal Wok. 2 Stars. Will I Return? — Yes. Although now that I know their good & cheap, I’ll be putting in my To Go order. Royal Wok is the polar opposite of Royal China. Both are on Royal Lane, but one is a dive with quality cheap eats in K-Town. The other is a super nice, expensive, American friendly place in Preston Hollow. If I had to pick between the two, give me the Wok. To Go Please. 1 Star. My Unilocal Rating Scale(Sum of all parts): 1 Star — Atmosphere — Is it a cool dive? Perhaps an upscale place? No matter the type, atmosphere plays a big part and I’ll give a star if I like it or thinks it has great charm. 1 Star — Service — You can have a great meal with bad service. But that’s also what can make a five-star joint drop to four. It’s important to the dining experience that service is great and on point. 2 Stars — Food — I’ll award up to two stars for the food, since this is the main reason we dine out. Sometimes the extra star is given for value, but it’s really all about the food. 1 Star — Will I come back? — If I know for a fact I’ll return, I’ll give this a star. A place has to make an impression for me to return. Each Category can be given up to 1 star except food(2 stars) because I consider all these categories important to the overall dining experience. I will sum them up to provide my final Unilocal score.

You can’t beat decent Asian take out, especially on a cold winter’s night. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of shrimp in my moo-shu. The veggies were nice & crisp, and the sauce was flavorful, but a tad too salty. I think the wraps were just super thin flour tortillas as opposed to rice flour crepes. We also got an order of pork fried rice and cream cheese wontons. The rice was pretty good, again on the salty side, but the pork strips were very tender. The cheese wontons were not at all greasy & packed with flavor. There were actually fresh chopped onions in those lil’ yummy bites. The lady at the register was nice, but I did take out, so can’t fully comment on service. The restaurant was packed; that’s always a good sign. It’s not my favorite spot, but I’d do takeout here again. Portions are very large, the price is reasonable, and the food is pretty good.

So if you want korean chinese this is the place to go! They have the black bean noodle dish that every Korean kid loves. Plus the tang-su-yuk to go with it. But is it something to rave about not really. It’s just your average basic korean chinese style restaurant. But there just aren’t a lot of places like this you can go to for some authentic black bean noodles. The plus side is the service. It’s 5 stars. They are ready to serve and happy to do it!

This place is a little hidden, but the food is excellent. It’s not high end but the service is great, plenty of food for a tight budget. I ordered the kung pao chicken and it was full of veggies and chicken. The sauce was delish and exactly what I expected. I also truly enjoyed the wonton soup. The wonton had a perfect texture and the broth has plenty of flavor. The egg rolls are extra crispy just how I like them :) Overall, I am super glad I tried this place. Friendly service, authentic, and inexpensive.

Lots of MSG in the food. I was thirsty all day and had a rash. Poor quality service & food. I don’t recommend.

I like how organized they are with the delivery. When you call they have your number & address stored so you don’t have to go through that process again of repeating numbers slowly & spelling out street names. I would say the Hunan dishes are the best thing out of the menu that I have tried. I get it extra spicy and it’s really good and flavorful. The Kung pao chicken is nothing to write about, pretty disappointing. The shrimp in lobster sauce was awful to me. Some people suggested the duck with their dipping sauce and I thought it was just okay, the meat was really dry so the sauce had to save it. They give you a ton of duck though. The egg rolls are for babies, so tiny. The Lo mein was bland and too oily.

I love Royal Wok. They deliver, they work really hard and the food never disappoints! The sesame chicken and beef and broccoli are so good! On an off chance, Wu’s Asain Diner left their menus at everyone’s apartment where I live, so I was curious. Very disappointed by the appearanand then I bit into the chicken to find that it was as dry as the desert. I love and support independently owned small businesses and encourage other people to do so, but in my experience, I found myself spitting out the food.(Sorry to sound like a bi***.) Again, that’s Wu’s and NOT Royal Wok. *****ROYALWOKISAMAZING!

I love the service here! I’ve been to many Chinese restaurants & never had a great experience but this place gets an A on service! Food is also delicious, haven’t ordered a single thing that my boyfriend & I didn’t like. Hands down the best Chinese restaurant I’ve been to so far! I recommend everyone to come try this place!

Found this place last night passing through the area. I like to read reviews first before I try new places, but I was starving and Chinese food sounded good. Nothing too fancy about the place, but our waitress was really sweet. I ordered the Family Meal(I think that’s what it’s called). It was $ 12.50, but came with a whole bunch of food. Win! I ordered the Shrimp and Scallops. It wasn’t steaming hot, but good. The Egg Drop Soup was good too.

Had the orange chicken, spicy fried rice, shrimp fried rice. All three were great and the portions were large for the price. Customer service was wonderful. The elderly asian woman was so sweet.

One of the perks of working in the illustrious Harry Hines /Koretown district is my nearness to Royal Wok. I’m not by any means a Chinese food connoisseur, but I definitely enjoy the food here regardless of debated authenticity. I don’t crave Chinese takeout often, but a few days ago I really needed it. I’d been up since 5am and was already hungry for lunch by 10:40. Royal Wok opens at 11am and also has a handy website. You can’t order from the site but you can at least look at the menu which was more than they had available online a couple of years ago. I called up and ordered the Imperial Shrimp and some egg drop soup. It was ready in about 15 minutes which is perfect for my drive past the hobos and hookers on Royal. The lady that brought my order was really sweet and got me out fast. So the food… hell yes. Hot, fresh, delicious, bountiful, and filling. Imperial Shrimp is basically huge shrimp, bok choy, water chestnuts, and something else I can’t recall. It totally hit the spot. The egg drop soup was what you’d expect, however the wontons were sort of lame. They were more like the lo mein noodle variety and not the flat crispy variety I prefer. Long story short, I will eat here again and I suggest anyone wanting some decent takeout on the flu should check it out. (They do have dine in)

The black bean noodles are decent but the garlic shrimp was one of the worst I’ve ever had. The batter was thick and the shrimp wasn’t fresh. It tasted very fishy and overlooked. I can tell they used frozen shrimp. I will not be going back.

3.5 stars but was very close to 4. Had the spicy Szechuan duck which I highly recommend but can be pretty hard to eat. The fried rice and lo mein were BEYOND bland but if you don’t mind adding a little salt to it, you’ll love it. The egg rolls? $ 1.30 ea?! Which isn’t a bad price for a NORMALSIZED roll but each egg roll is the size of your thumb. Yes, look at your thumb right now. Would you pay $ 1.30 for an egg roll that size? Hmmm more like $.75! Overall I would come back — only if I were in the area.

I really like this Chinese restaurant, it has an exceptional menus with many offerings available. Delivery is always fast and courteous. My favorite dish at this establishment is orange beef, it’s always crispy golden and delicious with just the right amount of dried orange peel and spices i.e. Chinese Peppers and lots of broccoli and a great tasting orange sauce. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone is craving decent Chinese food at a good price.

I was craving some chinese korean food so my friends and I looked up this place on Unilocal. The reviews weren’t great but we figured anything in Harry Hines should be decent. This place did not disappoint. The food hit the spot, service was great, and they even threw in some complimentary dessert! I definitely was impressed and left a good tip for the super nice staff.

Came specifically for the jajangmyeon. They make it light, not too salty, and just really hits that jajangmyeon spot in your soul. They are legit and bring out the onions, Kimchi, takuan, and bean paste for dipping along with jajangmyeon. Great fresh made pan fried dumplings … didn’t taste like they had been frozen. Tried the sweet and sour pork which was decent. Better than most Chinese restaurants.

I love this place! I’ve been going here since I was little with my family. When I got older me and my mom would go on daughter mom dates here. We’d share a Jjamppong and jjajangmyun together. We’d always get the pork tangsuyuk. The food is always consistent and the ajumma owner and her husband are so sweet! I got my hubby hooked on this place now. He loves their fried rice. They hand make the noodles so very chewy and so yummy. I don’t go anywhere else because this place is so good. It’s kind of hidden away in the corner in a Korean shopping plaza on Harry Hines so be on the look out cause it can be hard to miss. Definitely worth going and checking out!
