I remember eating their when Paul owned it. One of the best steaks of my life. Sadly last time I was there it was inferior to Outback and I’m not a fan of Outback. The steak of old had a solid seared crust on it that was to die for. Now it’s gray with a few seared on grill marks. No solid amazing crust. I can only assume that the two five star reviews here are from people who enjoyed it as much as I did back when Paul owned it. Sadly he is gone and so is the quality.

Dallas is one of the most competitive restaurant markets around. And this is still quite probably THE best steak and steak house in Dallas. Which means it is probably one of the tops in the country. As soon as you step in the door, you enter a soothing retreat. The staff there is amazing. I’ve never ever had mediocre service. Its always top notch, even when the place is packed. And the food is to die for. Get the quail soup starter. Drooling now just writing about it. Be sure you order the filet mignon and for the love of what ever you hold holy, don’t cook it past medium. Delicious, tender, well seasoned. Just get a nice Merlot to wash it down. NOTE: If you want to get in here for a holiday, reservations are a necessity. Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, etc. reservations need to be made at least a month in advance or the only thing you’ll get from Paul’s the smell of the steaks everyone else is eating.

I can’t believe this place has only one review!!! Paul’s is awesome, I first tried at lunch some 20? years ago. Paul himself greeted me, took my name, I walked in and knew this was a little nicer than I expected. Fine linens on the well set and decorated tables. Prices were a higher than the Trail Dust that used to be down the road, but worth every cent and then some. The next time I went there was at dinner on a date about 3 months later. Paul greeted me with a smile and said«Hello Jeff, nice to have you back!» How did he do that? I have been back not as often as I would like, usually 1 or 2 times a year. But to my amazement, most of the times he calls me by my name! By all means, try anything, but my favorite is the prime rib! Oh my Gosh! The quail soup is great. Heck, the big hunk of cheese on the table and fresh bread is almost a meal worth going for. Salads are excellent. Women are always treated special, they receive a rose at dinner. Very nice place to take a date. I have been to some of the so called best steakhouses in Dallas and always am glad somebody was treating me instead of vice of versa, price versus quality does not compare! Pay double for maybe 80% of the excellence you will get at Paul’s. Now for an everyday guy like me, it’s not cheap. But for most people it probably more of a midrange price place. For the special occasion though, a great place. Great kept secret lately, closed for renovation presently. But will be back open soon. Paul’s Porterhouse, what can I say. It’s just great! It’s right off the street and when you go inside, it’s like a whole other place. The ambiance is wonderful and the privacy you get during dining is a major plus. They specialize in steak and seafood as presented on the name, but I would personally recommend their quail soup! You can choose between that or a salad but I usually head straight for it. They have special holiday menus and the Valentine’s one that I had was a great deal package for two. We even got a heart shaped cheesecake for dessert! All the ladies get a single rose after their meal(regardless of special holidays or not), and I appreciated that gesture as not many restaurants are so chivalrous nowadays. Definitely go to Paul’s!
