As a native New Yorker, I was anxious to try this out once I heard about it. I was a little disappointed in that the dogs were nothing like I get in Coney island back home. That is not to say that they were bad. They do have quite a few choices other than their dogs.

I used to swear by Nathan’s hot dog stand. I found the stand on Harwood and Akard. I always ordered the jumbo dog with spicy mustard, onions, and jalapenos. YUUUUUUUMY. In August, I went to the stand and discovered it was under new management. The new guys said they’d purchased the stand. The prices all went up 50 cents. The guys were out there sweating buckets and it grossed me out. Buy a towel! One guy had a plastic glove on one hand. He took cash with the gloved hand and then reached for my hot dog bun with the same hand. I called him on it. He apologized and said I was right. He put on a new glove then reached for the same bun he’d already pulled out for me with that dirty hand. I asked for onions, then the spicy mustard(they didn’t have it), and next the jalapenos(they didn’t have any). I ended up settling for onions, relish, and ketchup. I returned to work still grossed out. I tried eating it thinking maybe I was just acting stuck up but there was a ton of grease hanging out in the hot dog itself! YUCK. I felt sick after eating half of it. What was that??? The week before, I’d led a meeting at work and told everyone about the stand. I started going around and telling everyone I was wrong!!! One lady told me she’d been the same day and had thought I was crazy. She didn’t eat hers either! She threw the meat away and picked at the bread and condiments. I wish they’d sell the stand back to the original owners!

No change to my review other than to say that the hot dog cart is now mobile and is moving around the downtown area. It may not be at Elm and Field so you may have to look a block in either direction.
