Dr. Marcus Downs conducted my surgery in December 2008(hemorrhoidectomy and sphincterotomy). He did what he was supposed to do, I suppose, but didn’t seem to care about my state post-surgery. I was in major pain for about three weeks, which he said was normal. He told me that if my vicodin was not enough to help with the pain, that I should take advil. His attitude was very ambivalent. This month, about 8 months after the surgery, I had some major pain in that area for the first time since the surgery. The first thing I did was call his office to leave a message for him(with his receptionist). I was in so much pain that I couldn’t walk, and I asked her to tell him to please call me. I said it was urgent. Unfortunately, he did not call me that day and I had to take major painkillers to sleep that night. The next day, I called back and spoke with a different receptionist. In summary, I left multiple messages for him, begging for him to call me since he was the only person in this world who would know exactly what the surgery entailed and what the complications would be… and why I might be having pain. But he never called me back. And to this day, about two weeks later, I still have not heard from him. I had to make an appointment with a different surgeon altogether in order to get some attention. I am very disappointed in his lack of attention and do not recommend him to anyone who cares in their own physical and emotional wellbeing.(I should mention though that his office manager, Carol, is amazingly kind and caring, and is the only good thing about his office).
