RIP Julyly Alkey — there will never be another bar like you.:(

Kicking some bad ass jams loud and proud off the juke. Trashy dive with PBR stacked four deep in one corner of the bar area. Invoices stuffed between the gin. Clothes pins holding onto the tabs. Empty beer boxes stacked head high in another corner and above the bar. Pinball machines blocking the cigarette machine, but, don’t worry, police call box is spitting out chips and jerky. Art is tasteful and unique and defines the décor of this cool ass dive. Kick it Bitch, this homey needs another cold one. Pop the cap and put it in my money maker. This Bitch always has his shank.

Come to Deep Ellum but don’t forget to go to stop by July Alley. Amy has legendary stays here as a bartender and her service is excellent. No wonder people love this place.

Checked this place out while waiting on my pizza and ended up staying until close. Jessica, Dick and Zack introduced me to Texas beers and whiskey. The Dj kicked ass and even olayed a few requested songs(thanks josh). Badass dive bar! SIFC

This place smells like vomit and the bartenders are douche bags. I’m only giving it two stars because of their cheap drinks and because he made our car bombs extra strong. And because I’ve been here a million times and I’ll probably continue to go here. Every time I or a friend I’m with try to play music on their juke box the asshole bartenders(bald guy with septum and some other average guy) skip it because we’re «hipsters» and our music isn’t «uppity» enough. We tried to play roky erikson and pentagram– I thought they were joking but they weren’t. Unless you’re playing that flogging Molly or drop kick Murphy bullshit(sorry excuse for music imo) don’t waste your money. You can bring your dogs here which is cool but besides that and the drinks everything else sucks.

My friend and I stumbled upon July Alley after a concert at Trees and we were not ready to go home yet. We got a drink here and took in our surroundings. This place as a gritty and grungy(literally, grungy underwears hanging from above the bar) feel to it while still making you feel welcome and at home(cool local art was hanging on the walls if I recall correctly). It was extremely lively in here. The music here was cool and they had a pool table in the back too. I’d definitely come back here for a drink or two while in the area — in the least it’s great for people watching!

Do you like being wasted and no one will notice? Loud, obnoxious and a dumbass and no one will notice? Checking out the bra’s hanging from that odd wire? Stray art on the walls and ever so stiff drinks? Then this is your place! You will find an odd mix of people who all seem to melt right into the bar or pool table. One big party and it could just be small groups. There’s a pool table in back, often a sweet dog roaming around and a couple of almost homeless drunks hanging out front. Seriously? Do you need any more character then that? It’s an old standard that has sent plenty of folks to AA, I’m sure of that… but, if you just want to have a good time, drink, party and be merry… you won’t go wrong here.

I was here for the deep crawl uye along with other Unilocalers. This was our second stop for the day because we started at 3pm… freaking alcoholics I tell ya! hahaha There are every bars for everyone in Deep Ellum and everyone seems to like each other heheh. Eventhough the crowd looks like they can beat you up, they were really nice and down to earth. there’s seatings inside and outside. I think they have about three pool tables inside. You will need a dollar for a game! oh and you know you’ll have a fun time when you walk into a place with bras hanging over the bar area. Let me tell you something… those are not mine! heheh

The drinks here are almost too cheap. What I mean by that is, I almost die when I go here, every time. I think now though that the problem is me, and not the buck and a half liquors. If you can hold your own, and you like a bargain, or if you just like a thin dive bar with a bathroom, jukebox, pool tables, bar stools, and megatouch machines, next door to some delicious pizza, THIS is your spot. I love July Alley for its not ONE but TWO megatouch machines, which do each contain my favorite game — Erotic Photo Hunt! Here, however, while the drinks are cheap the games are a bit pricier than average: $ 1 gets you 4 credits, 2 per game(usually $ 1 for 6 credits, 2 per game). The pool tables are priced normally — $ 1 a game, and there are a lot of cues to choose from. The folks inside are mostly regulars, and all friendly. The bathroom is fine. Great place to have a few drinks for under $ 10 and waste a few hours chatting or engaging a fellow bar friend in a cooperative game of photo hunt.

Favorite bar hands down. I’ve been going here ever since Bar of Soap closed along with most of the other patrons that frequented Bar of Soap. Great drinks, great people, great tunes, clean bathrooms with soft toilet paper and great times. If you get bored you can trot over to Reno’s, but you’ll end up back at the Alley because the Alley is the bombdiggity.

Grimey grimey greatness! I so love July Alley. It is precisely what it wants to be. Great drinks, bartenders and the clientele is about as colorful as they come. This is a drinkinig bar for sure… the kind of place you can go alone, post up at the bar and drown your day with other hard-working people just doing the same thing. FYI…You can also bring your dog to July Alley. Expect to be responsible, clean up your own mess, etc. but how cool is it to be able to bring your dog INSIDE.

This place is legit for a weeknight. We went on a Thursday and played pool. I also liked that I got like 15 songs for 5 bucks at the jukebox, so I got to be DJ for a while(perhaps much to the clientele’s chagrin, as I broke the streak of Slayer songs). It was pretty empty so we got to hang out without being bothered. I tried to go back on a Friday with some girlfriends, and was too intimidated to go inside. It was overflowing with people, so we bailed. Crowds are not usually my gig, but if they are yours, this is the place to go.

I’ve never had a time at July Alley that didn’t turn out to be some sort of debauchery. Good debauchery, of course. But still. O. o So, what’s up with July Alley? There are good, cheap beers. A good juke box(be forewarned, the bartenders can –and will– fast forward through your BS selections– ow). Cool«not taking any of your shit» sort of bartenders who will mix up a good shot for you, and make one for themselves while they’re at it. There’s a pool table, a back door, cleaner bathrooms than you’d expect, and a very diverse crowd… hipsters next to cool ass mofo’s(I’d be in that group) next to bikers next to homeless man with a dog. All enjoying the fun that is July Alley.

Do you like to drink cheap PBR in a dark bar full of easy-going patrons and a bartender who crushes your beer can when you don’t drink quickly enough? Then you’ve found your bar. July Alley isn’t where the Uptown crowd comes to be seen in the latest trendy bar. In fact, I’m pretty sure if an Uptown kid showed up to order a double vodka tonic, the resident Pit Bull would take a chunk out of their ass. Ok, so probably not. But still. This isn’t that type of scene. July Alley is a neighborhood bar firmly ensconced in Deep Ellum and beloved by the locals and visitors alike. The fact that it’s within walking distance of my favorite Deep Ellum resident is just an added perk since July Alley is a must-visit whenever I’m in Deep Ellum. Which is as often as I can manage. Don’t come to July Alley if you’re looking for a spot that will make it on the Hottest Spot in Dallas list. Come to July Alley if you’re looking for cold beer, strong drinks, bartenders that pay attention to you and patrons that come for a beer directly from jail, where they spent the night after falling asleep in a Jack in the Box drive-thru. True story, that is. And exactly the reason July Alley is one of my favorite bars. Gotta love a bar with a little flavor.

I can’t believe this place has been around for so long yet I have never been. Just goes to show you I don’t get out to Deep Ellum very often anymore. But after running out of tickets at the arts festival we decided to go in search of this place and try it out. First off… yeah, the inside was interesting. Long bar on the left with really tall barstools. And on the right were booths and they were separated from the bar area with a long decorative accent railing? WTF was that? And why does it also block the bathroom? And why is there an upstairs area where broken chairs are lying around like they had been left right where they died? These are just many of the things you can ponder while you sit at July Alley and drink! The bartender lass was friendly, she made a strong drink, she danced to the tunes. What more could you ask for? Patrons were friendly and people cheered when a good song came on the jukebox(JOURNEYYEAAAAH!) so what more could you ask for? Overall a pretty good bar. I did ask if there was a rooftop patio because it seemed like there should be since this was either the old Green Room spot or right next door… but alas no. If they had that option it would be even greater. July Alley, in the words of Arnold, I’ll be back!

Ahhh July Alley! This use to be my usual watering hole since I turned 21. Havn’t been in a while, but I still love that place and recommend it to people that go to Deep Ellum. If you are into metal… the juke box ROCKS! You can jam just about anything you can think of. Beer is cheap, service is good, bartenders rock. I bought a piece of art work from Ace one night, he does all the welding/metal artwork that you see at the establishment, be sure to support him and buy a piece! Im not sure if Amy is still there but she is always a doll! If you go often enough you’ll see Oliver Peck(From Elm St. Tattoo) grace the bar with his presence, he’s such a cool guy and amazing artist.

Great Deep Ellum staple that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere any time soon. Good cheap drinks, never met a bartender I didn’t like. Ace is the best though! You can play pool, hear a band sometimes, smoke outside and listen to great tunes. It’s a true dive bar. But ladies, hold your nose when you go into the bathroom. For years it has had the stench of baby powder. It’s sickening and I can’t figure out how it smells so strong after all this time. Does anyone know? The men’s bathroom isn’t like this. What gives? Go here if you’re in Deep Ellum or seeing a show at Trees.

July Alley is a favorite DE neighborhood bar of mine. I know it will always do its job. Located just next to Elm Street Tattoo, it sees a bunch of colorful patrons that I have to say I do adore! A small patio sits outside welcoming the crowds of Deep Ellum. Walk in to find a long bar to pull up a stool at on the left and a row of booths on the right. Choose the bar because then you can hang with the bartenders and other thirsty clientele. It’s like a diner in that you tend to start talking to the people to the right and left of you… only there is no pie. There are pool tables though. The vibe is pretty laid back and they tend to play nice tunes. I’ve never had a bad time here, though I have to say we were only in for a bit on our last visit. Not because we wanted to flee – we just had things to do you see. If you like a different setting than your average Dallas bar and ya like a little bit o’ flavor in your drink time, check JA out. Happy hour is Monday-Friday from 5−10pm and includes happy $ 1.50 wells and happy $ 1 domestics. Yeehoo!
