Just this past weekend I was told by the staff at J blacks that would be closing their doors early May. Living in the Belmont Apts, J blacks became an easy walk for a good drink and great food. This bar easily became our«go to» bar for football games, week day cocktails or Sunday fun day. I will miss the bar, the staff and everything it brought to Henderson. Thanks for all the great evenings my friends and I had.

This place was absolutely awesome. I came here for dinner with my husband on a Sunday. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks and food. They have a Sunday funday special till 11pm: $ 1 off all drinks and 25% off bottles of wine. Got the pigs in blanket which was amazing and came with awesome bbq sauce homemade honey mustard and sweet potato chips. Ordered the wagyu beef nachos for my main entrée and I ate the entire thing it was so delicious. My husband had the spicy wings which he said were some of the best ever though he was chugging water and sucking ice cubes after lol The bartenders were so cool and very knowledgable of drink selections. Super cool atmosphere. Highly recommend if you are in the Knox-henderson area of Dallas.

Great happy hour specials and an awesome vibe walking distance from where I live. I usually head up there on Tuesdays for half price steak pizza and bacon Brussel sprouts. Delicious and convenient, and the bartenders are really cool too!

I have to say the brunch is awesome as others have said on here but My wife and I went for football and for the first two weeks they would put on the game for us and it would be cool. But then came week 3 and all of sudden they don’t put the game on for us «cause the channels are set» which is code the manager at the time just doesn’t want to deal with it even though there were only like two other people in the bar and plenty of TVs. They lost my business cause of that and I won’t be back.

I’ve only been here once or twice, and was never disappointed but also was never really eager to come back. Type of people were a mix, DJ played Top 40, and drinks were typical pricing. Good standard bar option to head to on weekend nights.

The place has good food and on Tuesdays, half off pizza for happy hour. At night, it’s rock in with people going out and about and drinks around. In short, I’d come back.

Heard was a douche bar so was hesitant to try it but brunch here is awesome and so are bartenders. If you live in Dallas and are not a Cowboys fan if you get to bar early they will put your game on any TV!!!

J Blacks offers a nice brunch for a reasonable price. Friends picked the place because they felt it was kid friendly. It proved so, though there was only a small crowd of diners on a Saturday morning. One thinks of the old Dream Café as the ideal for«kid friendly» with its playground patio. They paved it over and put up apartments a few years ago, so maybe a kid friendly patio is as good as it gets in Dallas. J Blacks offers a Bloody Mary bar. They serve you a solid shot of vodka and let you mix up the rest of your drink. It is a fun novelty. The food was nice. Pick a sunny day and head out with your friends with kids. Catch up. Mix up a few Bloody Marys.

Love this place and every person employed at this establishment. I’ve been coming here since I moved to Dallas a little over a year ago and the service I received my first visit was as good every time since. It’s a mixed crowd. You’ll have your typical dudebros and SMU brats, but it’s to be expected when you’re on this side of town. Equally, there are just as many people I would be obliged to pick up conversation with. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone.

I have been dragged to this«lounge» a few times in my life. My low review is solely based on the clientele… well the bartenders kind of suck here too. I thought about rating a star higher… because this really is some of the best people watching… I’ve seen more bad decisions made here. Like the one time that the spray tanned junior attorney spent the whole night trying to pick up the married mom of 3… in kakhi pleated pants no less. Long story story short… she got drunk and agreed to let him«drive her home»…only to throw up all over those Dockers once she got out the door. I have seen more tears and vomit flow from this place than any other bar on Henderson… seriously I think it might be requirement to have at least two girls crying into their cell phones on the ledge outside. Every time I have walked in here or by here — I’ve lost my appetite… so I can not say anything about how good or bad the food is. I guess if you’re really into the uptown scene and want a change of scenery… you can come here. There are plenty of dudebros, douchebags and future candidates for Housewives of Dallas.

@JBlacks_Dallas Open-Faced Egg Sandwich OMG delish! This place is perfect for Sunday brunch(heck, ANYtime) and – for whatever reason – it wasn’t crowded at all. Love the vibe and location. Everyone loved their food. Pitcher mimosas were well priced if not a bit mild. We will be back – though I can’t believe we haven’t already! (from 4÷28÷13)

Damn! Who didn’t like this place?! Since moving to Dallas, my friends and I have embarked on a golden fleece-like journey to find the perfect Wednesday trivia bar. We have found that place! After checking out the menu online, I was worried that this place may be too expensive for me, not outrageous, but a bit more than I want to pay every Wednesday for bar food. Ladies and gents, this was not«bar food.» This was food of the gourmet variety and worth every penny. The staff was attractive, which usually means poor service and an attitude, but not here. We were greeted immediately and I was worried because we were sitting on barstools, but these were super comfy. The hostess brought our drinks in under a minute and my Shiner was super-cold. Our waiter was perfect. The place was packed and he came around just enough but not too much(it helps that we were too engrossed in trivia to notice). And the food was incredible. Definitely not bar food. They had a bit of comfort food on the menu. I got the grilled cheese app and it was loaded and delicious with a bit of tomato soup dipping sauce. My friend got a salad and loved hers as well. There were plenty of veggie options as well. If I’d been smart, I could have arrived early and got in on ½ off apps and cheap drinks for happy hour. Every table was taken and yet the place didn’t feel crowded. That is an excellent bit design.

We recently went for brunch and it was very relaxed; not a lot of people there which was surprising. I felt bad for the guitar player inside with an audience of 4 people. There are a lot of tables outside and a few inside though the room is dominated by big black leather banquets and exposed brick walls. Very nice. As far as small chain restaurants go, this one didn’t feel sterile and is a nice fit to the mid Knox/Henderson area. There is a build your own Bloody Mary bar that is a bit of a let down in the array of choices. I did love that their go to vodka was Tito’s and not a well. The mimosas were really the way to go. Order a double and you get a large wine glass filled with sweet champagne and OJ. Delicious! The regular menu is also available but there are so many interesting choices for brunch we didn’t even look at it. I ordered the breakfast pizza without sausage(yea for vegetarian options!) and it was HUGE! $ 13 got me what traditionally amounts to a medium pizza covered in cheddar, mozzarella, caramelized onions and an over hard egg. I wish the egg had been a bit less cooked so I could spread the yolk around but otherwise it was delicious. Definitely something we will order again but to split. My boyfriend got the Alamo tacos– pulled pork and cheese. It came with really nice breakfast potatoes and we added a side of fruit. The watermelon was out of this world. I’m so excited for fruit right now! I can’t wait to go back and try the brioche French toast and migas, as well as their dinner offerings. This may be my new favourite place for pizza.

J Black’s is actually a lot less douchey than I expected! They have a huge patio and interior space, comfortable seating, attentive and friendly wait staff, and great happy hour prices — featuring both half priced appetizers and drink discounts. They also have promo drink girls that wander around at times from whom you can get both alcohol swag(sweatbands/hats/visors, that sort of thing) and actual drinks, for free. The food, of which we sampled a large variety, was excellent. The salads were a good size for the price, and fresh(~$ 11), as was the pizza(~$ 10 for a margherita). The crab and avocado appetizer was good, but it was strange in that the vehicle they give you to get the crab into your mouth is saltine crackers. I think I’d prefer either just using a spoon, or perhaps tortilla chips over the crackers. Maybe if it were served with some other sauce the crackers would make sense. Not sure. My friend got the pigs in a blanket and they were both large individually and there were a good number of them(4). They were served with chips and some dipping sauces, and since they’re an appetizer on the menu, they’re a great value if you like hot dogs in blankets and can arrive before 7pm. On Wednesday nights, Geeks who drink hosts trivia here, starting at 7:30pm. Get there early if you want discount anything, but it’s usually not packed on a Wednesday so you don’t really need to worry about seating. You can, however, make reservations for seats for trivia through the restaurant. My only real qualm is the horrible valet lot — the valets disappear before you go home, and you’re left wondering wtf to do to get your car keys. Go to Capitol Pub. They have them. Pro tip: you can park across the street at the lot next to Hacienda for free.

I love this place, great outdoor patio to people watch, and dancing is accepted here anywhere in fact I think I danced on the sidewalk and carded people lol. Wait staff was pretty good. So I was teaching Dallas how to party and started dancing with the furniture, upon running around with the side table beating it like a drum I lost my iphone 5(that I just replaced after losing it uptown @ SISU bitchez be like«Take her phone) so after leaving with my group I was thinking«uh ohhhhhhh» we immediately turn back to find my phone and some patrons notice me(my sweet dancing skills) and asked if I lost my phone… Well they turned it in and I got it back, Why I am telling you this? Well it’s a honest kind of bar that does not jack your shit cough cough yeah I am pointing at you uptown

I’m a little late on my review but I’m pleasantly surprised by this place… maybe because I came here on st pattys day and we were wasted, but hey it worked. We’ve been to the one in Austin a few times and it was never really our scene, but after ending up with a restaurant .com gift card I decided to give it another whirl. It wasn’t too crowded and the staff was pretty attentive. We had an array of wings, steak, and a gluten free pizza with the works. I would say the pizza was the stand out, some of the better gluten free I’ve had… or was that the multiple Guinness beers that day? Who knows I think I will come back if I’m in the area… and tried and true is too crowded

Today was Texas Independence Day, and J. Black’s was having a small shindig to celebrate the occasion. In celebration of this most holiest of holidays, J. Black’s had live Texas country and classic rock music courtesy of the Texas Pearl Band. These guys looked way past their prime, but they could still rock out. Today only, they had Texas beer specials and reduced-price Texas appetizers. My wife and I decided to share an order of the Texas Sliders, as well as an order of Pulled Pork Sliders. On the side, we got hand-cut fries and homemade chips. The Pulled Pork Sliders were tender without being overly stringy. Their barbecue sauce was a pleasant combination of sweet and tangy. I was also glad that there was just enough sauce to act as a condiment, but it wasn’t dripping down the sides. The coleslaw also added a nice crunch to the tenderness of the pork. The Texas Sliders had a great char from the grill, which gave them a decent crust on the outside while still remaining tender and moist on the inside. I generally eat my hamburgers sans vegetables, but the pickles worked well here. As for our sides, they fell a little short. The homemade chips were thin and crispy and had a great taste. However, they had almost no salt whatsoever. The fries were pretty much the same: tasty, no salt. When I checked into J. Black’s on Unilocal,I got an offer for a free bumper sticker. Our waiter wasn’t very attentive, which was surprising since there were only 7 tables of customers in the entire place. When it was time to pay the check, I showed my Unilocal coupon to the manager, and our waiter suddenly started paying more attention to us. Go figure. All in all, I was pretty pleased with J. Black’s. Even though the service was a bit lacking, the food was terrific. This was a great way to celebrate the day. Happy Birthday, Texas. Happy Birthday.

I loved how chill and at the same time lively feel to this place with a subtle of that speak easy theme while playing top 40 hit music lol. If you haven’t noticed yet, I am partial to speakeasy stuff. ;) Like most lounges, there isn’t really a dance floor, a great place for those who really just wanted to get out of the house and do something.
