Gables Turtle Creek Cityplace

The location of this complex is fantastic, but the experience is not. Unfortunately in my time there, I was always doing all the maintenance myself or it would’ve never been accomplished. I asked for a door to be fixed twice. Both times I was told it was fixed when it wasn’t. The roof leaked — never addressed. The lights on the vaulted ceiling that were ‘fixed’, were not. I bought a ladder and did that myself, too. Perhaps the most concerning issue (if possible mold from leaking isn’t enough) is that one of the maintenance people decided they needed to be in my bedroom at some point when fixing a light fixture in the kitchen? I’ve never written a bad review before today, but the charges I received on my moveout report were insulting considering all of the time I should’ve charged them for my handy work, the ladder, and the waiting time when the assistant manager and manager couldn’t be bothered to get up from their desks to help people who walked in with questions.
So I guess if you’re handy and don’t want them to fix anything, you probably won’t have many issues. Be forewarned, however, that as one of the older properties in the area, you’ll be putting a lot of time in.

We lived here for 3 years, and if we hadn’t moved to a new city, we would have continued to live here.
First of all, the location can’t be beat. You can walk to the quaint West Village, there’s shopping right out your front door, delicious restaurants, night life, etc. I already miss the neighborhood dearly.
Even more so, the living quarters are extremely homey and comfy, with two-​story ceilings and crown molding. They are town-​home style apartments, which is really nice because you don’t ever feel like you’re in an apartment. Also, a huge plus, for the 3 years we lived there, I never ONCE heard the neighbors, the walls separating units are very thick, luckily. The floor plans are practical and spacious. The only thing some would consider the downside is the kitchen is a bit dated with no-​frills (older appliances, no stainless steel). However, I cook a great deal and the kitchen always worked like a champ in terms of functionality.
The property itself has very nice amenities. The pool is really pretty, and very quiet during the weekdays. It can get a little louder on weekends, but not nearly as wild as other Uptown pools can be. The workout room is also quite nice, with several different machines and types of equipment. Also, it’s dog friendly, so they have pet waste stations located conveniently throughout the property.
In addition, the office staff was very friendly and accommodating. I feel sorry for the Unilocaler below who had a different experience, but maybe it’s because how you come at people is how they respond? Kate, in the leasing office, was always so pleasant to interact with, and always helped us if we needed something. Melissa, the property manager, was also always beyond accommodating and wanted to help us out. Lastly, the maintenance staff on the property is TOP NOTCH. Super friendly, and very quick to turn around any work orders. The staff painters couldn’t be nicer as well, I’m really a big fan of all the people who work at Gables Turtle Creek.
They lose one star because as the person stated below, there IS a problem with the fire alarms, and they will go off randomly. The person below exaggerated how often, but it’s still annoying when it happens. In the 3 years we lived there, I’d say it happened maybe 1 – 2 per year. I think this is a problem that happens with a lot of complexes, but I do hope they find a way to fix it.
For apartment living, you really can’t do better. We really really loved living here, and miss it dearly!

1. The office girl verbally attacked a group of 4 residents (and 2 dogs.), at approximately 12:40 pm on Friday, 3÷20÷14, and stormed out of the office, leaving the phone ringing. Most jobs would fire someone for this kind of unprofessionalism, but not Gables… We simply asked why the fire alarm went off again, she responded rudely (as always, the 4 of us spoke about this afterwards). Someone made a joke about awesome customer service, and this Katie went off on all of us for about ten minutes. I work in customer service, and know that this is not how one behaves at work, even if you are frustrated. I get being frustrated, but act like an adult, and handle it professionally. There was a terrific girl named Sarah, who used to work here. I wish she would come back!
2. The fire alarms go off about 2 times a week, with nothing being done. Several of us who live here have spoken about how this is causing damage to hearing, to our pets, and potential lost wages, for the who work from home.
3. Corporate has done nothing to resolve any problems.
The units themselves are laid out like little houses, which is cool. Location is pretty perfect too. If they would just fix the fire alarms, and do something about this girl (like get her in some classes that teach you how to be professional, some conflict resolution training, some politeness training, as she have never been friendly, etc., or bring Sarah in instead!!), then it would be a really great place. But I cannot recommend this complex, until these two problems are resolved. And this is an updated version, since the incident occurred. I want to live somewhere, where people are considerate towards their residents. That goes for office staff and corporate.

Do NOT move in here! The fire alarms go off at least every 2 weeks — and almost always in the middle of the night. Then, it takes them 45 minutes to an hour to shut them off. It’s a sound so piercing and loud, you can’t even think. Imagine what this does to a dog or other pet! The trauma this causes them is sick. Every time it happens, I have to immediately take my dog out — in the middle of the night! It kills me knowing it also happens during the day and there are so many pets who live here and their ‘parents’ are at work and don’t know this has happened. When my lease is up, I am moving out!
