Gables Katy Trail

Moving to Dallas from the Midwest, I had one weekend to fly down here and find a place to live. When visiting Dallas I knew Uptown would be my ideal area to live, tons of bars/​restaurants to walk to, katy trail to run on, super dog friendly and SAFE! Unfortunately most apartments in the Uptown area are extremely pricey and not reasonable when you have student loans and bills to be paid each month.
Gables Katy Trail is a great price, in a GREAT location, and although the building is a little dated, the parking is good, the pool is nice, and it is a nice small apartment complex where you don’t feel like you are living in a minature city. It is relatively quiet here, you have the option of installing your own stackable washer and dryer, and the kitchens have been re-​modeled with nice standard appliances.
I have honestly enjoyed living here for two months, and wish I didn’t have to move, but this apartment has a fairly exensive breed restriction list for the dogs that can live here and when my fiancé comes to join me this summer with our Siberian Husky we have to move across the street to a different apartment complex that will allow our pet.
Overall– I would HIGHLY recommend this apartment. Great price, great location, relatively nice/​updated units in an older building.

This is the 3^rd apartment I’ve lived at in three years (a high rise in Cleveland, OH and a 3 story in Chicago), and it’s a pretty decent place. I was pretty nervous about moving from Lincoln Park in Chicago to Dallas, but Uptown’s made the transition away from a super dense city pretty tolerable.
For one of the least expensive complexes in Uptown, you get a really safe and quiet apartment, that has everything you’d want within walking distance (and it’s on the Katy Trail). I’m all about parking on Friday, and not getting back in my car until Monday, and you can definitely do that from this complex.
All in all, the complex is dated by Uptown standards. You won’t find interesting floorplans, stainless steel appliances, or a lot of community events, but you get an awesome value for a pretty great location. I’ll probably move to a more updated complex when my lease is up, but would definitely recommend this apartment to anyone looking to move to Uptown.

This is probably the least expensive corporate owned complex in Uptown Dallas.
I lived here for about a year and I enjoyed the location. The maintenance people were super nice and responsive. The office staff was also good but none of them work there anymore so the current administration might not be so good.
Great location. Architecture is pretty cool and the pool and courtyard look nice at night. Private gate access to the Katy Trail. 2 level garage with plenty of resident parking and a decent amount of guest parking (cars have been broken into but only when they left things visible… if you have common sense you will be OK). Not a lot of other amenities but the rent reflects that.
The only thing I did not like about my apartment was that I settled for a first level unit facing the pool. With my blinds open there was zero privacy. Other than that I really enjoyed my time here.

Great starter Uptown apartment. I lived here for two years (one bedroom and studio) and was very impressed with the maintenance staff and complex.
It’s an older complex, but Gables bought it several years ago and renovated it. Nice carpet, kitchen appliances and bathrooms. Not all units have W/​D hook-​ups, but most do. Two-​story gated garage with key access for residents.
Backyard right off the Katy Trail and within walking distance to McKinney/​Uptown area.

Nice area (close to everything in Uptown) and very safe (it has gated parking and the gate is never broken or left open), maintenance is really fast which is great, office staff is nice and pleasant, the building is kept clean and all appliances are updated, never had bug problems or mold issues
LOTS of young people live there so it can get really loud sometimes. I’ve called the cops a couple of times after hearing beer bottles being thrown around the pool area at 3AM on Friday morning. It’s a courtyard so all noises sound louder than they are due to the echo affect, dogs are always barking cause their owners leave them inside or out on the balcony, walls are thin, plumbing is loud (at least in my room) and planes from Love Field fly above constantly & that gets annoying!
So… if you’re a SMU student and want to socialize all night, move here. But if you work full time and want to come home to some peace and quiet, look elsewhere!
